ON JUNE 29, 2019, a team of industrious Wynstone residents worked at the Habitat for Humanity’s construction site in Crystal Lake. Despite intense heat and humidity, the walls went up as framing was

the day’s goal. One of the attendees, who once had family on this property, was present. Now this location would become a home for a family who is living in an apartment or motel. Seeing the heat and hard work, she surprised everyone with popsicles. The homes built by the nonprofit are not given to the new owners; they are offered with a no-interest mortgage. Some sweat equity is also expected at the job site. Members of the Wynstone team arrived ready to help. The job was run by a construction professional and all the tools needed were provided. ON AUGUST 15, 2019 during the final days of summer vacation, John Morrison and his realtor team served up a back-to-school ice cream social for friends and guests. An ice cream and snow cone truck provided dozens of flavors to choose from. Face painting, a balloon artist, and coloring kept children busy at the South Shelter at Citizens Park.

What’s Happening at the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce

THE BARRINGTON AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE and the Village of Barrington gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 to celebrate the opening of the new Barrington 220 District Administrative Center at 515 W. Main St. in Barrington, across from the high school.

“We are thrilled to be in this beautiful new space located directly across from Barrington High School,” said Dr. Brian Harris, Superintendent of Barrington 220 Schools. “The building is nearly double the size of Barrington 220’s former district office at 310 James Street. This additional space allows the district to house nearly all district level staff in the new building, which frees up space in our schools for additional educational needs.” The district acquired the 20,000 square ft. building from Pepsico, which it most recently used as a facility for Gatorade. District 220 staff moved into the new location at the end of the 2018-19 school year. For more information call (847) 381-6300 or visit barrington220.org

LONG-TIME BARRINGTON RESIDENT and BHS alumnus Mike Murray and Jackie, his wife, had an ah-ha moment when a family member was recovering from a serious health issue. When she could not do the heavy lifting of snow removal last winter, an idea can to light. “She was the inspiration for our new snow removal app,” Mike Murray said. Since 2012, the Murrays have run APLS-All Parking Lot Services, their business of commercial and residential snow removal, and the new app was a natural extension of their offerings and a way to revolutionize local snow removal services.

The services focus on a targeted geographic area including the Bar-ringtons, Lake Zurich, and Palatine. Murray says he does not want to over-extend his service area, which allows for tight response times (four hours, any time of day) and excellent service. Customers have a variety of driveway materials, and DRYFT services will use the right equipment for each. Other benefits include environmentally friendly salt, and hand shov-eling for smaller areas such as steps and dog runs. Another key option is a service setting on the app for 2” snow removal—getting ahead on deeper snow falls. And for no-show providers? DRYFT will get the job done. Snow removal will also be provided for small commercial centers.

Options for snow removal include advance scheduling for incoming snowstorms which the DRYFT app will signal through its weather feature. Snowbirds or vacationers can schedule service remotely through the app.

All DRYFT service providers are background checked and pre-screened. For those interested in applying to DRYFT, go online to the DRYFT Service Provider and sign-up.

There is a season-long sign-up option for users on the Apple and Android friendly app, which is free and downloaded through Apple’s app store. Snow removal payments can be per event or seasonal and are made through the app or online for those who prefer using a website. For more information, visit DRYFTnow.com or call 847-346-5004.

BARRINGTON BUSINESS OWNERS LAUNCH NEW DRYFT APP

Designed to be accessible for students of all physical abilities, the new play space was eagerly tested out by students after the brief ribbon cutting ceremony. This is the first all-inclusive playground in Barrington 220, provided by community support and the many generous Barrington community donors.
