It has to come from a Scottish distillery, be made from malted barley and water that has been malted at the same distillery as it is produced at
Must be distilled in Scotland in oak barrels for no less then three years and one day
It has to be bottled at no less than 40% alcohol by volume
It has to be distilled to at 96.5% alcohol by volume so it retains natural flavours and colouring
Must have no other additives other than caramel colouring and water.
