‘Bonjour’ and ‘Guten Tag’ Year 6 from the Modern Foreign Languages department at De Aston School! We are so excited to meet you in September! When you come to De Aston, not only will you learn French and possibly also German, you will also learn about the cultures of some of the many different countries where these languages are spoken! Tahiti is a the largest of the French Polynesian islands in the middle of the Pacific ocean. Click on the red pin to

The islands were first discovered by Polynesians as early as 500BC (that’s a long, long time ago!). They were later discovered by
European explorers during the 16th century and then colonized by France. This
is why it is known officially as ‘French Polynesia’ and
French is the main language spoken there!

In Tahiti, the post popular dance is the ‘Ōte’a’. Traditionally, dancing on the island is used to attract a
partner, challenge an enemy, worship a god or for prayer. Click the red pin to watch a traditional dance!

When visiting Tahiti, you must sample their exotic and delicious foods! Sea food is very popular, but here they also grow pineapples, bananas, vanilla, ginger, yams and

In beautiful Tahiti it’s summer all year round! During the ‘dry’ season (March-November), the temperature ranges from 21-27C. In the rainy season (December- February),
the temperatures range form 25-35C.
