Abengoa has undertaken a large number of projects in all areas of Europe (Spain, France, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Ukraine, Poland, Denmark). To be highlighted are the conventional and renewable energy projects, transmission, desalination, treatment, hydraulic infrastructures and other single- buildings. The company also has the largest Solar R+D Center in the world and is both a pioneer and global reference point for this technology. This has enabled the company to develop new technologies and pioneering operational and maintenance services and systems for maximizing plant capacity and production.
Throughout Spain, Abengoa has developed, constructed and carried out the operation and maintenance of 13 solar thermal plants with both tower and parabolic trough technology, bringing the total to 681 MW. Presently, the company is responsible for the operation and maintenance works with pioneering systems developed by Abengoa that allow plant production to be maximized.
In Ukraine, Abengoa has constructed a 750 kV high voltage line and 187 km of alternating current that joins the Zaporizhia nuclear plant with the Kakhovska substation. This line will help to consolidate the country’s energy independence while supplying additional energy to the southern and eastern regions of Ukraine.

Thanks to its efforts in constructing a number of solar thermal projects in South Africa, in addition to generation and transmission projects across the continent, and the construction of desalination and water treatment plants, Abengoa has risen to become one of the key players in the energy and water sector development in Africa.
In Cunene, Angola, Abengoa has constructed a plant with a capacity to treat 16.3 Ml3 of water per day. The company was also responsible for laying 100 km of pipelines that will transport the water from the plant to Ondjiva, the capital of the region.
Abengoa is responsible for the operation and maintenance of Ain Beni Mathar. It is the first plant in the world to use hybrid gas-solar technology and has an installed capacity of 472 MW, that was developed by the company and which started commercial operation in 2010.
The Xina Solar One plant with parabolic trough technology is the company’s third project in South Africa. It has a total installed capacity of 100 MW with a five-hour thermal energy storage system using molten salts. The plant will produce clean and dispatchable energy to serve more than 90,000 homes.
