Background Application of industrial automation (sensors, actuators), with high

density of nodes communicating over RF. Industrial requirements typically:

power consumption per node <100mW

many hundred nodes in a network

guaranteed response within 20-50 ms.

Bluetooth has been used for industrial applications. Suffers from: short range

small picocells, (relatively) high consumption

high bitrate

no real-time guarantee

ABB has developed proprietary solution (not industry standard)
