Abstract
The aim of the present study is to modify the client’s behavior by using Behavioral
Intervention of Positive Reinforcement Fixed ratio schedule. Client do not clean her drool because of which her chin was getting
infected. Due to which this behavior was targeted. She was observed at pre
intervention phase and baseline mean recorded as 0.2 frequency of cleaning drool which increased by 3.7 in the intervention
phase. In post intervention her mean frequency was recorded as 3.5
Aim of the StudyThe purpose of the study is to increase
the client’s behavior of cleaning the drool
Operational Definition‘Client does not clean the drool that is
saliva from mouth’
Case History• 40 years old woman belongs to Sindhi family. Her care taker
reported that approximately 20 years back she brought there and remain undiagnosed.
• Her aggression has been reported by many observers there which also end up in big disputes among roommates of her. She understands everything but speaks only few words.
• Her current medicines are as Tagral and Kemadrin.
• Due to drooling her chin is getting infected day by day. Her caretaker showed concern about her this issue. That is why I targeted her behavior of not cleaning the drool to modify her self-care.
Functional Analysis of Behavior
Done through interview and direct observation.
Method and Procedure
• Consent form signed from the caretaker . Then case history of client from two caretakers, roommates and two medical staff personnel was taken. The complete study has been done in three phases
PRE-INTERVENTION:• A base line was recorded by Event Recording method that is how
many times event (behavior) occurs within the three hours of observation.
INTERVENTION:• First day researcher asked her to clean the drool. She was
reinforced immediately. Gradually the frequency of prompting becomes lesser till zero. Hence at each time she was reinforced from low valued reinforcer to the higher valued reinforcers.
POST-INTERVENTION:• The event recording was made and no reinforcement in this
phase was given to the client. At last two follow-ups were conducted.
