Celebrations of Gandhi@150
As part of Grand Finale Activity to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of
Mahatma Gandhi, the Embassy of India in Djibouti, a newly opened Mission in
April 2019 organised a series of events to pay homage and reverence to Father of
the Nation.
The Embassy organized two events on 2nd October 2020 (Friday). In first event,
rich floral tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi at his bust, located right in front
of French military base by Ambassador Ashok Kumar, senior government officials,
members of diplomatic corps, members of Indian community, friends of India &
representatives from media.

Mr. Ali Abdi Farah, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs and in-charge of
Parliamentary Affairs and presently member of ruling People’s Rally for Progress
party also participated in the ceremony. He inaugurated the bust of Mahatma
Gandhi in 2004.

Ambassador in his address highlighted the activities organized by the Embassy to
celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary. He also mentioned Mahatma
Gandhi’s principles of Truth and Non-violence which has inspired the world
community. Ambassador also highlighted various programmes being organized by
the Government of India under ITEC and ICCR scholarship schemes to help the
Djiboutian.

In the evening, Professor Shri Prem Anand Mishra, renowned Gandhian, Dean &
HOD, Faculty of Gandhian Studies, Gujarat Vidyapith, Ahmedabad spoke on the
topic “Gandhi’s Message for 21st Century” on Mission’s Facebook page ‘India in
Djibouti”. During the talk, he highlighted the universal teachings and philosophy
of Gandhiji such as non-violence, peace, universal brotherhood compassion and
truth. He also stressed on relevance of Gandhiji’s ideals and their universal
applicability, particularly in the present challenging time.
