one of the local scene’s most original and exciting bands is Volkova sisters comprising members Dalma Berger, Dániel sándor and gergely Kovács. they formed in 2009 and have changed their headquarters from Bu-dapest to london. they are enjoying more and more international popularity, thanks to their songs blending folk, goth, electronic and experimental guitar music. they are presenting their new album on this night, receiving support from Berlin-based Czech band fiordmoss.

german stoner band Kadavar were not formed in 1970, as one would suggest when hearing their music for the first time, but a good 40 years later. playing sludgy psychedelic hard rock reminiscent of hawkwind, Black sabbath, steppenwolf and Uriah heep, they have made two long players so far: 2012’s self-titled debut, and its follow-up, Abra Kadavar, a year later. fronted by hypnotizing frontman Christoph lindermann, Kadavar are coming to hungary to drop their amazing riffs on their faithful fans who desperately wanted to see them in november but the gig had to be postponed. luckily, only by a few weeks.

one of the queens of the underground underworld rock, the dame of new york no wave and noise rock performed on the A38 for the first time in 2013 - and she gave an amazing and memorable concert. now, a year later, she is presenting her album Big sexy noise with her identically called backing band. interestingly enough, Big sexy noise share two members with gallon Drunk, who have already appeared on the ship this year. Big, dark, menacing, sexy noise - this is what to expect on this December night.

random trip is an exciting meeting place that you could never get tired of - it is equally fascinating for music fans who long for mu-sical gems, and and it is a unique moment for the musicians that can’t be repeated. random trip incorporates rappers and rockers, funkers and indie guitarists, jazzists and folk musicians. this occasion presents a truly special guest, la-ura Jane Jones, who has worked with Aaliyah, enrique iglesias, Dave matthews Band, florence + the machine, Kid rock and the Black eyed peas.

A key figure of the russian deep tech house scene, Andrey pushkarev (not to be confused with the former football player of Zenith) is one of those extraordinary DJs who can play for several hours without losing concentration and who pays attention to his audience throughout his whole set. on this night, he’s presenting a fabulous pre-Christmas show, aided by AKt records head isu. What a great way to prepare for the holidays.

mixing folk traditions, wedding-style electronica and chic electro-swing, Balkan disco is a real success story in the european club scene as well as in hungary. one of the main characters of this dance story is stefan hentel aka shantel, who has ancestors from Bucovina. All of his concerts are huge parties where people dance to eternity, and it will be the same on this night as well. on the occasion of the upcoming Christmas, you can also buy a dinner ticket for this event, the price of which includes the concert and the special dinner in the panorama restaurant of the A38 ship.

two rock bands from the town of pécs: one very familiar and one that’s worth checking out as well. 30y returned this year and released their new songs on two ep’s: comeback record Ahogy el-képzeltem came out in february, the next ep titled Dobozember followed in July. the support band of the Beck brothers and co, the immigrants, was formed in 2011, and a year later we saw them in a talent contest. their debut album, Best of immigrants, was released last year and contains indie guitar pop reminiscent of Kings of leon.

what’s the second biggest hip hop nation in the world behind the Usa? it’s not the UK, it’s not Germany - it is France. being strongly influenced by american hip hop, the French scene has produced a great deal of noted performers, among them mc solaar, wax tailor, dJ cam, abd al malik, 113 and Guts who’s coming to the a38 in dec-ember to play his first ever hungarian show. what drew you towards hip hop? What led me to hip hop, is the place where i lived, a working class neighbourhood, radio 7 with DJ Dee nasty and an initiatory trip to new york. how would you describe your experience with alliance ethnik? what are your favourite memories connected to them?the experience with my band Alliance ethnik was incredible, intense, magical and formative. it lasted almost 10 years and allowed us to collaborate with great names from the hip hop-scene, record in major studios in paris and new york as well as working with my mentor Bob power. At that time production budgets were „no limit” which allowed us to compose in the best conditions. the best memory was quite surely the recording and mixing of the album respect with Bob power in nyC, and also some memorable concerts including a tour in germany. alliance ethnik was active until 1999 and you released your first al-bum as Guts only in 2007. what did you do in the time between?Between 2000 and 2006 i composed for various french musicians and produced various albums for artists such as passi, svinkels, Big red, sags poetes de la rue, etc. Your solo stuff seems very different from alliance ethnik’s, influenced much more by Jamaican and caribbean. would you agree with it? how did these influences find you?yes, indeed, since the beginning of 2000 and a trip to Kingston, my attraction for reggae music and the West indies has considerably grown. And since i live on an island (ibiza), it has only increased my passion for music from the Caribbean. for the last 2 years, i’ve worked with mambo on the Beach Diggin compilations which totally fit with this universe. Vol. 3 is ready to come out in April 2015, we are enthralled

and the label heavenly sweetness is delighted with the success of our compilations. why did you start your own label, Pura Vida music?i created the label pura Vida music primarily in order to put out my second solo album freedom in total independence. today it would be useful to put out some projects which wouldn’t find any record label. i’ve also heard that you are a big record collector. what do you think about the rise of vinyl sales?i have much less vinyl than before because when i moved to the island, i decided to sell half of my collection. i kept the essentials but actually now i regret it. i’m very pleased about the increase in vinyl sales even though one purchased vinyl out of two is never opened and listened to by its buyer. the buyer has no turntables, it’s only to own the collectable item! i am naturally very attached to the vinyl format and especially its analog sound. Unfortunately, most of the vinyl products pressed today don’t have the sound of vinyl, only its format, they sound more like mp3. nevertheless, i am happy for indie shops and glad to see some young people tired of the virtual digital format and interested in the object and listening to music with a more active attitude. tell us about your newest album, hip hop after all. For example, how did you find the vocalists/rappers you’ve worked with?About my new album hip-hop After All i chose the invited aritsts according to the music that i had selected. each track inspired me a female or male voice, soft or hard hitting, dynamic, or deep. the choice was made like this and in consultation with DJ fab. once the list was made we contacted the artists by email and organized recording sessions in nyC and lA according to everyone’s availability. which are your five favourite hip-hop albums?nas – illmaticA tribe Called Quest – midnight maraudersthe fugees – the scoreArrested Development – 3 years, 5 months And 2 Days...pete rock & Cl smooth – mecca and the soul Brother

december OFFer in December, we are offering our guests yet another monthly selection.

As the holidays are approaching, we would like to create the festive mood with delicious flavors. this month, we have selected the more classic hungarian dishes.

A little taster:_pumpkin greaves cream, with buttered croissant_fish soup a la tisza_Chestnut turkey breast, marinated in blackberries, with grilled riceballs_rosemary duck leg, with yoghurt-apple beetroot salad_red bean scholet with smoked beef tongue_Chocolate cake with cognac nut mousse

new Year’s eVe On the a38 shiPon new year’s eve, we are expecting our guests with a special concert+dinner offer. on the last day of the year, after the dinner in the restaurant, the entertainment can begin in the concert hall. We are presenting a three-course dinner with fitting wines and a welcome drink.

look for the special new year’s eve concert offer of the A38 ship in the programs section!

if you desire more, we are offering you our luxury All night long package, which includes the attendance of several concerts and a five-course dinner - in an informal and elegant form, with a view on the Danube and the bright lights of Budapest.

A little taster:

Welcome bite:redberry goose liver paste

Warm first course:greaves/bean “zakuszka” served on home-made briochethummerer egri Balauburger

Soup:lentil cream soup with coriander and beef tongue chips

Main course:sous vide porkling chop, with transsylvanian cabbage and french layered potatoesBodri Kadarka

Dessert:hot chocolate lava with grape/champagne mousseJanus Cabernet franc

At midnight, we are offering our guests the following selection:lentil salad - home-made smoked crop ham, weenies in crumbs with mustard

the waY we maKe ittales of the chefi fry the pumpkin red with some honey, then i add some freshly made duck greaves and i serve it all with buttered croissant.

the fish soup is made of different fishes.

i fill the chicken breast with chestnut and i marinate it with blackberries. this way, the fibres get tender which makes it a lot tastier and also gives it a nice color. i use the sous vide method.

i confit the duck leg in grease filled with orange and rosemary for two and a half hours on low temperature. some people are averse from beetroots, but in my experience this side dish - which is made with 3.5% yoghurt - even satisfies the taste of those guests who are perhaps a bit distrustful or finicky.

finally, this month’s dessert is… Well, this should be a surprise.

in the focus of the latest exhibition of róbert Šwierkiewicz is the beginning of all things. rig-véda, treasuring the literary memories of the most ancient indo-european culture counted as the starting point of the works. in his art, Šwierkiewicz aims to turn the incomprehensible origin history into a picture and to transform the invisible. in his own words: “i felt a strong urge to answer the questions of questions with colors, shapes. even where i encountered an abyss, unbreakable walls.”

from time to time, indian mythology appears in Šwierkiewicz’s art, whether it be the streamway Book, the four ganga books or the sanskrit tales. to him, india is an eternal source of inspiration.

the art of Šwierkiewicz could be categorized according to the usual concepts of art critique and art history: principally as informel, gesture-art, then as expressive happening-art, with a touch of surrealism. We have to repeat one sentence in this context too: “the emphasis is on the condemnation of forgery and the credibility of mystic experience.” ernő marosi opened Šwierkiewicz’s exhibition held in 2012 with these words.

language as form, mythology and the four ancient elements are all footstones in Šwierkiewicz’s art that can help us analyze all his works according to these three guidelines.Whereas water played a pivotal role in the exhibition two years ago, this time fire as a creative power is in the center of attention.

the exhibition will be opened by ernő marosi, Academic Doctor of Art history, member of mtA (hungarian Academy of sciences).

At the opening, followed by the performance of the artist and Judit Koch, Balázs pándi will be playing music with merzbow Akita, with whom Šwierkiewicz was in a regular correspondence during the art mail movement of the 1980’s.

the exhibition can be attended with registration in advance, 11.00-18.00, every dayplease contact: +36 1 4643940

the 1st of december is going to be a great day for hungarian deathcore fans - suicide silence, thy art is murder and Fit For an autopsy are going to bomb the ship with their throat-ripping brutal performances. what makes the night even more special is that suicide silence will play in hungary for the first time with their new singer, following the death of their charismatic front-man, mitch lucker. we asked lead guitarist mark heylmun. the new album’s title (You can’t stop me) was taken from a song mitch lucker was writing before he passed. why did you decide to go with this title?Because the sensitive situation we were in of moving forward with suicide silence needed these lyrics. „you Can’t stop me” was the inspiration to keep the band alive with mitch’s influence. did your songwriting process and studio sessions chang with eddie as vocalist? when and how did you decide that he was the right one?eddie was the one as soon as we said his name out loud. no tryouts just „if he is down we should do it.” And he was down.

he’s just a brother, you know? he’s always been there and brings a real vibe to the table that he never can fake. he’s not ever gonna try and be something he isn’t. the writing sessions were exactly the same as they were before. eddie is confident and throws down very much like mitch i mean they grew and learned together so it’s no surprise. From where do you get that brutal amount of energy that out-bursts during your concerts?the dark spots that make us want to be better people. the idea that people look up to us. the fact that we are living our dreams. the energy comes from multiple spots and a lot of the time it’s from the fans that are there pumping energy at us. which are your five favourite extreme metal albums?suffocation - pierced from Within, morbid Angel- Domination, Decapitated- Winds of Creation, Death - sound of perseverance, pantera- great southern trend Kill.

A38 is the reincarnation of ‘tripolie’, a Ukrainian stone-carrier ship, built in 1968. the name comes from Artemovsk, which is the ship prototype, and this one was the 38th unit of the ‘Artemovsk’ class. the re-building project lasted for one and a half years. Architects, ship engineers, acoustic designers, electricians, musi-cians and promoters contributed their skills and experience to make it a both artist and audience friendly place.

After years of constant development, A38 has become a cultural entertainment centre with international programme, a restaurant, five bars, one main concert hall, open-air terraces and lounges - all in one aboard as one of the most fascinating venues in Budapest. since its opening it became the flagship of Budapest nightlife, a must-see spectacle on the Danube with scenic view and one of europe’s coolest clubs, which has been voted ‘the World’s greatest Bar’ – according to the poll of lonely planet in 2012.

A38 ship is located in Budapest, at the Buda side of petőfi bridge, easily accessible by a few minutes walk from tram 4 and 6 “petőfi híd budai hídfő” stop or by BKV public transport ships.

the concert hall is a place for live shows and parties, and several bars ship-wide are open for the audience to chat and have a drink.the restaurant offers a daily menu every weekday from 12h to 15h for 1150 hUf.

our roof terrace is closed in the autumn/winter season and reopens in April 2013.for our smoking visitors, we have a heated smoking terrace area with its own bar.
