Word

Microsoft Word was another technol-

ogy used during the planning stages.

Word was used to design the digi-

packs, store audience feedback and

the storyboard tasks.

I decided to use Word because of its

many benefits. The use of shapes and

tables allowed me to easily design

the digipack, advert and storyboard

for the video in a clear manner. A con

here would be that it wasn’t the best

looking of designs and the objects

described didn’t exactly look like

what they were representing but still

it allowed for an in-depth plan and

still gave basic ideas as to what the

final results looked like.

Despite these positive points, the

software didn’t make much of an

impact to the rest of the coursework.

This was not due to the technology,

this was more due to the fact that

the tasks set weren’t appropriately

answered with this technology and

therefore the software wasn’t given

opportunity to make an impact on the

coursework. If the tasks set would

have been more appropriate for the

software then it is likely that the

software would have been used again

because of its positive features and

plus points.

Word is not a creative software and

therefore there was no opportunities

to become more creative, but like

PowerPoint this was not as important

as getting the planning done effec-

tively because if it wasn’t effective it

wouldn’t have been as efficient, so I

did not become more creative.

Prezi

The first piece of technology used

during the planning stages was Prezi.

This was used mainly to display the

genre conventions and analysis of

the songs tasks. One benefit this

feature has is that it allows for a

more creative, interactive and hope-

fully fun piece of technology to be

used to display planning completed.

However it’s big flaw is that it isn’t

easy to add detail. Prezi slide shows

only have a limited number of slides

and therefore full detail isn’t prob-

lematic. This problem was overcome

in this task though. It was only used

for the shorter tasks that required

less detail and therefore slide limit

did not become a problem. This didn’t

really make an impact on the produc-

tion as it wasn’t a technology that

was needed or required to be used

whilst making the product. It was

used again during the evaluation but

not as much and most of it’s built in

features were hardly used. These

limitations meant it wasn’t presented

with an opportunity to make an im-

pact on my coursework and was

therefore not appropriate to be used.

Similar to it’s use during research,

this hasn’t made me more creative.

As I said before, Prezi just adds

animations to a normal PowerPoint

and I already knew how to do that so

because of this I have not become

more creative.

PowerPoint

PowerPoint was again used to display

planning completed and was used in

tasks such as organization of loca-

tion, models and props. This was

used for these tasks because of the

benefits PowerPoint has to offer.

PowerPoint allows for lots of detail in

a easy to use and comprehensive

manner. With it’s setback being that

it isn’t the most creative software on

the planet, this comes second to the

detail as more detailed planning

allows for less to go wrong during

the production phases. The addition

of this detail made a huge impact on

the production. It meant everything

had already been organized in-depth

and comprehensively meaning that

there was little that could go wrong.

It would have been more interesting

if this was displayed in a creative

method but as I already said, detail is

more important because detail

means more is planned.

Because this wasn’t the most crea-

tive software, I didn’t become more

creative. I wasn’t provided nor at-

tempted any opportunities to become

more creative and therefore did not

become more creative. This wasn’t a

bad thing though as I had the detail

required for an effective, compre-

hensive and in-depth plan.

Online Tools

Certain online tools were used during

the planning phase. Gantto was used

to produce the Gannt chart, whilst

Slideshare was used to upload work

and Blogger continually acted as the

portfolio for the coursework.

These online features had certain

benefits. They were less likely to be

lost or deleted because of them being

available online but this presents a

con in itself. If there was no internet

access the files nor the portfolio

could be accessed and would there-

fore not be usable, readable or even

accessible. Thankfully this did not

present a problem.

Online tools have made a huge impact

on this coursework. Without Blogger

the work would not be displayed in an

online way meaning it would be less

creative. Without Gantto I wouldn’t

have been able to have produced a

Gantt chart and without Slideshare

my PowerPoint's and PDF word files

would not have uploaded meaning my

work would not be available, meaning

planning and other phases would be

less effective and would therefore

drastically impact my marks in this

coursework. These features being

available has prevented this from

happening.

Because online tools were used in

the research I don’t think I became

more creative because of them. I

didn’t have any other creative influ-

ences to take from the use of online

tools and was therefore not more

creative as a result.

Photoshop

Photoshop was used to create the

mood board task in the planning. One

of the benefits of this technology was

that it allowed me to be more crea-

tive with the methods that I was

displaying my planning and thought

process when constructing what the

music video should look like, what

atmosphere it should have and po-

tential locations for the music video.

It’s biggest setback was the fact that

once a document was created, I was

stuck to that file size. This created a

limit in the amount of detail I could

enter on the mood board and how

much I could write. This however was

not a problem. I selected it for just

one task as that one task did not

require the most detail, the mood

board was another way of displaying

a spider diagram making PowerPoint

perfect for that.

This technology made a huge impact

on the coursework. It was used in all

four sections and was used to pro-

duce two out of the three production

tasks required. This was a positive

impact as without this technology

certain tasks would not have been

completed or completed as well as

they were.

Whilst the technology made me more

creative in the research I don’t be-

lieve it made more creative in the

planning task. This was because I had

absorbed it’s creative influences

during the research and therefore

was not presented with any new or

innovative opportunities to become

any more creative because of it.

Paint

Paint was used to draw the images in

the storyboard before being copied

and pasted over into Word to merge

and become the storyboard. One

advantage this technology has was

the simple to use during tools the

software had, allowing me to create

basic and simple sketches of what

the final music video could potentially

look like. One setback of this soft-

ware was that the tools given weren’t

very advanced and only allowed for

basic sketches to be drawn resulting

in a storyboard that didn’t represent

the actual ideas I had in mind whilst

drawing it.

Because of it being too basic and not

advanced enough the software did

not make an impact. It was a soft-

ware that was not used again or even

thought of being used again. If it was

more advanced or allowed for better

drawings then there is a chance that

it may have been used again and

repeated in the coursework stages

but it didn’t.

For the same reasons of it being too

basic, I did not become any more

creative as a result of this technolo-

gy. It was far too basic and simple to

use to be effective and was therefore

not giving me any opportunities to

become more creative. So I didn’t

become more creative.
