Teaser Trailers

• Teaser trailers are like theatrical trailers- are a form of advertising , however they differ as they a much shorter in length and usually lasts between 30 to 60 seconds. They are usually made for big- budgeted and popular themed movies.

• The main purpose is hype up the upcoming release rather than tell the audience the actual content of the film. In fact many of teaser trailers are a made when the film is still in the production or being edited as a result may feature unfinished scenes. Pixar use this technique and only use scenes that are yet to be finished or have ones made just for the trailer.

• Teasers today are increasingly focused on internet downloading.

• An early example of teaser trailers is one for the ‘Superman’ film. Which was by Richard Donner. The film was already a year late and the idea of distributing this trailer was to re-build interest.

• The teaser for Batman was a emergency marketing move that successfully convinced angered comic book fans that the film would respect the source material

The trailers are advertising a horror films but are executed in different ways due the increasing amount of technological advances in the editing process, there is a greater sense of continuity in the last trailer- saw. However there is the same concept when selling the film, minimum amount of content is show, there is the use of titles, music and a voiceover to sell the film.

Saw • Whilst watching saw movie trailers I

noticed certain trends in them: • Movies released at Halloween- ‘if its

Halloween, it must be saw’ • Over voice features jigsaw and also

screams from victims which help sell the product like brand. When watching a trailer they immediately know it is a saw film,

• The use of dramatic music sets the scene, and an in many of the trailers clips from the film are sharply shown to give insight and at the same time does not give anything away.

Evaluation• Focusing on Saw Trailers, there are a number

of elements that can be used for my own trailer in my coursework:

• Finding the right backing track to suit the advertising of the film

• Using sub-titles effectively • If there is dialogue from actors- scripting that

well• Most importantly having a seamless final
