P & C President Report:

The P & C meeting on 10th May 2011 was not well attended. We didn’t have enough people present to pass a motion. This meeting agenda has been moved to the next meeting (14th June).

A school survey A P&C newsletter Whether we need more detail in our

committee reports Whether our committee coordinators

should provide a summary only The need for emergency meetings or core

groups to pass P&C motions between scheduled meetings.

For those present we had first PEEK at our new hall and toilet block, both of which are only a few days away from being used. Mr B opened the Starwars doors on to the chilled night air, and the light shone off the new polished floors. The toilets are very swish with change rooms as well as washrooms. We were reminded of the TTC block is close to being finished.

We did get to discuss the sterling efforts of Belinda and her team who are working towards our P&C goals and improving the financial balance of the P&C. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those parents who are assisting to make it possi-ble (they were named in the meeting). Thanks for your help with our fundraising (our treats day, cake stall, ANZAC stall, Athletics canteen and Mothers’ Day raffle). We have made over a thousand dollars so far. Once again, thank you one and all for making it all possible.

Two things to look forward to are our Fathers’ Day raffle (first prize ... a barbeque) and the possibility of starting school banking with the Commonwealth Bank (expression of interest accepted).

There was really quite a positive discussion at the meeting with lots to look forward to and successes to admire. One negative was that due to declining numbers we may lose a teacher, so do your bit and recruit your family and friends to join our fantastic and lovely school and advise us of any potential enrolments. Gaela Elliott

YEAR 7 INJECTIONS The next round of Year 7 injections has been

scheduled for Thursday 19th May. Please return all forms to the office.

Protect against measles: New cases of measles have been reported and NSW Health is urging people born during or after 1966 to ensure they are fully immunised against the disease, especially if plan-ning overseas travel. Two doses of the free Measles Mumps Rubella (MMR) vaccine are given at least one month apart.

Symptoms of measles include fever, sore eyes and a cough followed a few days later by a rash. For more information go to: www.health.nsw.gov.au

How does a lung work?

3/4 have been learning about it in class!

To breathe, your lungs work together with your diaphragm. When you breathe in, muscles attached to your rib cage and diaphragm work together to draw air through your windpipe into your lungs. When you breathe out, most of the rib cage and dia-phragm muscles relax and your lungs deflate.

We built a model to show this and learnt a lot in the process!
