Christmas Gratitude
I am grateful to everyone who remembered me with cards, gifts, sweets and treats during the Christmas Season. It is such a pleasure to be the pastor of such a wonderful parish. Pastoral Council Meeting ~ The STB Pastoral Council will meet on Tuesday, January 5 @ 6:30 PM in the Parish Office Conference Room.
RCIA Presentation on the Eucharist ~ This Monday (January 4) I will be the presenter at RCIA. The Meaning of the Eucharist is the topic. Everyone is invited to attend and learn more about the Mass and the Eucharist. The sessions are held in the Acorn Room of the Lower Level and begin with prayer @ 6:30 PM. The sessions conclude @ 8 PM.
Annual Pre-Cana Seminar ~ Saint Boniface will host a Pre-Cana Seminar for couples who are planning marriage in the Catholic Church. The event will take place on Saturday, February 6. Please note the change of date. Those planning on attending should register with the Parish Office @ 656-6450.
ACSA ~ Please make a pledge/contribution to the Annual Catholic Services Appeal. Our parish goal is $115,663.00. To date $33,675.00 has been pledged/contributed. I am grateful to everyone who has already made their gift to the annual appeal.
Credo 101 Session ~ Per the request of several parents, I have added another date for the Credo 101 sessions. The next session will be held on Sunday, January 24 @ 2 PM—3:30 PM. The final session will be held on Tuesday, February 16 @ 6:30 PM—8 PM. Parents of students who plan to receive the Sacraments of Penance, First Eucharist and Confirmation are required to attend one of the final sessions. If either of these dates do not work for your schedule, please contact myself at the Parish Office @ 656.6450 or [email protected]. Failure to attend a session will jeopardize your students reception of the Sacraments. In other words, parents (at least one—preferably both) must attend.
FMCHS ~ Father McGivney Catholic High School is accepting registration for incoming Freshman and transfer students for the 2016-17 school year. Indoor Nativity Set
Last Christmas while taking down the indoor nativity set, Brenda Wasser suggested that the set should be repainted and repaired. The last time it was painted was in the mid—1980’s. It was Brenda’s first attempt
at painting a nativity set. Just in time for the Christmas Season, the newly restored and repainted nativity set made its way back into its seasonal niche.
Thanks to Brenda’s studio team and the Wasser family for erecting the nativity scene. And special thanks to Maureen and Larry Meyers for their generous donation toward the restoration and
painting of the images which will surely last another 30 years!

Reflection ~ Robin Black-Rubenstein
In Ephesians 3:2-6 Paul presents the Christian life as one
continued growth. Paul reflects on his mission to the
Gentiles, and understands that he has been called by God’s
grace to reveal to all that God’s salvation and love include
everyone who seeks it. He reminds everyone that may read
his revelation that it was first revealed to the holy apostles and
prophets by the Spirit. This New Year, as we continue to
grow into our humanity, I pray like Paul “that Christ may
dwell in your hearts through faith: that you are rooted and
grounded in love, ...and to know the love of Christ that
surpasses all knowledge.” (Eph. 3 17-19)

And She Held These Things in Her Heart
In last Sunday’s Gospel when Mary and Joseph find their twelve year old in the Temple and in the description of the shepherds visiting the newborn Jesus, Luke tells us that Mary held those things in her heart. The visit of the magi must have been another occasion that Mary added to those things in her heart, as was the prophesying about Jesus at his presentation and at his circumcision and naming. More than anyone else the Mother of God, along with Joseph, would be given the gift of knowing how immensely special this child Jesus was.
We can imitate Mary’s collecting those things in her heart by using this Epiphany feast day which recounts the visit of the magi to reflect on how the Christmas season has been for ourselves and where we witnessed the presence of the Lord in our gatherings, our gifting and in meals with family and friends. We can collect in our hearts those happenings of the season that say to us that indeed the Lord is present in a most special way.
I have been doing just that very thing and holding on to a
special memory for each of my children and grandchildren
from this Christmas season. I saw so many families gathered
with children and grandchildren at Mass during this season
and I am also holding those images in my heart. As I offer
thanks to God for the blessings of this season, I will be
recalling those very memories I am collecting because they are
the true gifts that I received.

Walk-Fit—Continues on Monday mornings at St. Boniface- 8:00 am to 9:00 am. During the winter months or rainy days we use a Walk-Fit video in the lower level acorn or oak room. During good weather we walk outdoors. Afterwards we have reflection (spiritual
exercise). All are invited. If the office is closed there is no class. January dates for class are: Jan 11 and 25. Leadership Training Living the Eucharist January 19— Small Group Leader—training, reflection. 1:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. Living the Eucharist begins February 10/11– Wednesday evening Living The Eucharist small group and Thursday Morning Living The Eucharist small group begins. Koinonia Weekend at St. Boniface– March 4, 5 and 6. Month of Guided Prayer begins—April 3. April 3 is the opening reflection. Each participant will then meet one time per week (Thursdays) with your prayer guide until April 30 which is the closing service. More details will come in early January. For the past year, you have been hearing about our pilgrimage to World Youth Day 2016 and supporting our fundraising activities. We are so grateful for all of
your generosity! We frequently are asked how much more we have to raise. The total cost of the trip for the group is $33,600. To date, through fundraising, generous donations, and payments made from each participating family, we have
raised $23,440.16, which leaves $10,159.84.

THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD
Today, we celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord when the magi followed the star to find the newborn king. We, as the Church, exist to evangelize (On Evangelization, Pope Paul VI, 14). Therefore, this solemn celebration of the Epiphany proclaims the meaning of our lives: to take the gospel "even to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8). This makes Epiphany the most important day of the Christmas season.
Today’s Gospel uses the word homage several times and yet it is not a word we use very often. What does “to pay homage” mean to you? To whom would you pay homage and how would you choose to do this? In our lives, we each have a guiding light (a person, concept, idea or goal) that helps us move forward. Be conscious of what star you have chosen to follow and, if it is not worthy of being paid homage to, search diligently for a more affirming star.

Stewardship
The story of the Magi — the wise men — as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew makes several facts very clear. We often focus on the gifts that were brought as examples of stewardship, and, in truth, this story was certainly one of the inspirations for the giving that occurs at Christmas.
However, as is often the case, there is a deeper and more meaningful message found here. When they found the child Jesus, they opened their treasures and they gave “Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” They did not present the gifts to His parents; they presented them directly to Him. The baby Jesus had no real need for these gifts, and we assume that Mary and Joseph used them in Christ’s behalf, to support Him.
That is what we do when we give to the Church. Although our gifts need to be viewed by us as gifts to God, we also must have a trust, which includes the understanding that those who will use the gifts will use them wisely and justly. The Magi trusted that their gifts would be used in a way that was beneficial. We need to have that same kind of trust. Most of all, we need to understand the importance of giving, of being good stewards.!

The Mosaic Pregnancy & Health Center received a total of $49,437.00 collected from 101 difference churches/groups. The total from St. Boniface was $2,364.83. THURSDAY BAGS LEAGUE (starts Jan 7) — We will continue the success and fun of the fall league into the winter months. We will move the league inside the KofC Hall for the winter, so some will have to adjust their throws with the ceilings. We meet every Thursday from 6:30-8:30. We start on Jan 7 and run through the end of March. Random draw for teammates every Thursday, so great chance to meet that person who always sits two pews up from you, but you never met. Minimum entry fee each week of $1 or $2. All are welcome. Men, women, parishioners, or just friends of yours. No skill level required, just an enthusiasm to have fun.
CHILI COOKOFF - Sunday January 24 — All who enter a pot of chili get free admission. All who just want to come and help judge, sampling all the entries, admission is $5 (which includes one free drink). We had 19 entries and roughly 100 people attending last year, and we hope to grow that even larger this year. If you are going to enter a chili you must reserve a spot before JAN 17 by contacting Tony Margherio at 618.954.1863 or [email protected]. This event is open to all Knights, both parishes, and any friends who love chili.
PATSY CLINE NIGHT - Friday January 29 — Come see a Patsy Cline cover band at the KofC Hall. Two 45 minute sets, with costume changes. Tickets $10. Come enjoy some old time country music.

Baptisms ~ Please contact the Parish Office for registration information. Prior to baptism, parents are required to attend a one-hour seminar.
Parents may attend the seminar before their child is born.
Penance ~ Saturday 3:30 - 4:00 p.m. Wednesday 6:00 - 6:30 p.m. Thursday (Bi-lingual) 6:00—6:30 PM Or by appointment. Communal services are celebrated during Advent and Lent.
Marriage ~ If you are considering marriage, a minimum of six months is required for preparation. A wedding date cannot be set until after the first meeting with the pastor. At that time, the diocesan and parish guidelines
will be explained.
Anointing of the Sick ~ Parishioners who are seriously or critically ill, or having surgery, should contact the pastor for the celebration of the
sacrament.
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults ~ The R.C.I.A. is an ongoing formation process for adults who are interested in becoming a Catholic and would like to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and First
Eucharist. Call the Parish Office for additional information.
