The cost is $2,559, which includes round trip airfare, hotel, some meals, most gratu- ities, land excursions and round trip transport to and from Orlando Interna- tional Airport. Some of the Ireland highlights include: over- night stays and leisure time in Dublin, Killarney, Waterford, Limerick and Galway; and stops/tours at Cliffs of Moher, the Ring of Kerry, Blarney Castle, Bunratty Castle, and Waterford Crystal, Trinity College, Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, King John’s Castle and lots of time to explore the Emerald Isle. Brendan Vacations has offices in Dublin, Ireland and Anaheim, California. We have an important election coming up April 7 to determine who will represent Flagler and parts of its neighboring counties in Talla- hassee. A small portion of Flagler’s 73,000 registered voters will make their choice between Democrat Adam Morley and Republican Paul Renner for House, and between Democrat David Cox and Repub- lican Travis Hutson for Senate. By doing so, they will weigh in on this important decision with other residents in House District 24 and Senate District 6. What’s frustrating is that most local residents won’t take the time to vote, and it’s likely some may not know there is an election going on in the first place. Candidates recog- nize this and aren’t expecting many voters – one estimated 10,000 votes total -- to visit the polls in April. Flagler County is not alone in ex- periencing symptoms of voter mal- aise. In fact, it’s become widespread throughout the country. In the November 2014 midterm election, 36 percent of eligible US voters voted, which marked a 72-year low. This midterm turnout was the lowest reported in any election cycle since World War II, and was 41 percent lower than the 2010 last midterm election. During a town hall meeting in Miami last month, President Barak Obama expressed his frustration with low turnout and lackluster voter participation. “Why are you staying at home,” he asked. “Why are you not partic- ipating? There are war-torn coun- tries, people full of poverty, who still voted 60, 70 percent. If here in the United States of America, we voted at 60 percent, 70 percent, it would transform our politics.” Obama went on to say that voters have a responsibility to advocate for what they believe is important and that “staying home and being cynical are not options.” We agree because voting is, after all, not only a right and a privilege, but also a responsibility. The Chamber encourages its members and Flagler County’s business community to accept this responsibility by voting on April 7. All of us have an opportunity to help choose the candidates that will represent us for the next two to four years. With your help and partici- pation, we can send a clear message that “Flagler Votes.” Morley, Renner and Cox, Hutson face off April 7 To show appreciation for our members, we are replacing our traditional Business After Hours with a special members-only “Operation Thank You” event, March 19 at the Chamber. The evening kicks off at 5:00 PM with complimentary beverag- es, barbecue, live music, games, giveaways and the great crowd you can expect at every chamber social. The Chamber’s member spot-light for the month of March is Jake Scully, owner of PC Bike. We asked him five questions about the shop and here’s what he had to say.

How long have you been in the business?PC Bike opened its original location in May of 2002.

How did you get into it in the first place?James Clayton, my General Manager and business part-ner, and I were avid cyclists who saw a need for a Bicycle Shop in Palm Coast that was not just all about high-end en-thusiasts. We wanted a store that had something for every-one, and we think PC Bike has provided that all these years.

How do you differentiate your business from your competitors? We are a shop for everyone. As small business operators, that is not always easy to do, but James is extremely acces-sible and works with truly all walks (and rides) of life.

What do you enjoy most about owning your business?

Jake Scully – Kelly, my wife and PC Bike’s office man-ager and I raised our kids in Palm Coast and we love this community. Owning a com-pany with a mission to bring a healthy, joyous activity to the local residents makes us feel really good. And then there are all the cool bikes I get to ride...

James Clayton - I love bicy-cles. I raced BMX as a kid and raced road bikes as an adult - bikes are part of me. Being able to make a living working with the machines I love and the people who ride them is amazing. Also not many get to ride a bike to work every day in shorts and a t-shirt!

What’s the best way for people to contact you? The best way to contact us is to come by the shop - bike shops are cool places! We are located at 25 Palm Harbor Vil-lage Way #9, across Old Kings Rd from the Staples Plaza and just north of Salsas Mexican Restaurant.

You can call us at 386-447-BIKE (2453) or email us at [email protected]. Our Facebook page is facebook.com/PCBike and our website is pcbike.com.

Hours are Monday through Friday, 10AM – 6PM, Saturday 10AM – 5PM and closed Sun-day so we can ride our bikes.

The Flagler/Palm Coast News-Tribune Wednesday, March 18, 2015 3VThe Voice

By Matt DunnVP Flagler County Chamber Tourism

Last summer, our team began formu-lating a new creative ad campaign for our destination to increase consider-ation among vacation goers. Our goal was to give Flagler a voice as distinct as the destination itself.

Part of this effort meant introducing new positioning taglines for Palm Coast and the Flagler Beaches. As a departure from “Relax on the quiet side of Florida,” we created a new direction with a broader appeal – “from beach to boardroom to locker room.”

We’re fortunate that our destination is home to nearly everything a trav-

eler could ask for. Whether you’re with a friend, your family, your pet, a sports team or business, amenities here will make your stay one to remember. And given our destination’s unique look and feel, we are working hard to raise our visibility and bring more guests to Palm Coast and the Flagler Beaches.

We started by identifying three strategies and tag lines relative to each. We chose “LOCAL SOUL” as a new tagline since people make the place. Vacationing here means opportunities to enjoy the open beach, a welcoming atmosphere and local soul that can’t be found anywhere else. Palm Coast and the Flagler Beaches offers a world of experiences in one place so that visitors can “FIND YOUR LOCAL SOUL.”

This new campaign will focus on four industry segments — ecotourism, lei-sure, luxury and facilities.

The visual direction for the ads is a combination of realistic photography and illustrations. This approach in-cludes ads that focus on friendly and approachable “local souls” within our community pictured in their natural el-ement, both where they work and where they play. These “local souls” share insights about what they love about our destination and invite the viewer to connect with them on a personal level. In addition to warm and inviting tones, playful elements allow viewers to feel comfortable with the content. These environmental portraits also depict the unique beauty of Flagler, and create special moments to draw viewers in.

The campaign designs include ele-ments we know will capture potential visitors. The headlines communicate Flagler’s strong community identity. The imagery is light, bright and invit-ing. The custom illustrated typography is friendly and playful. The map of Florida highlights Flagler’s location and gives viewers a graphic perspective.

Over the next six months, we’ll go through a series of A/B testing to deter-mine which ads and elements most suc-cessfully appeal to our target audiences and tweak the designs accordingly. In the end, we’ll have expanded our brand by creating a more lasting impression for visitors and showcasing not only the natural beauty of our area, but the peo-ple that make our destination so special. Stay tuned…

expensive way of send-ing real greeting cards using your computer or mobile device. After creating the greeting card online, SendOut-Cards prints, stuffs, stamps mails it for you.

Becoming a chamber diplomat was an easy decision for Luis. “I

learned long ago that if I help people get what they want, I will get what I want,” said Luis. “A chamber diplomat gets to interact with some of the best entre-preneurs in the county. I get to work with lead-ers who tackle chal-lenges and implement new ideas that help all of us succeed. I’m in the business of meeting people and building relationships and the diplomats are some of the best business people in the Chamber.”

Congratulations to Luis for being select-ed as Diplomat of the Month for March! For more information, call Luis at 386-237-4463, visit www.321send.com or email [email protected].

Nobody delivers it like we do.

There’s no question we live in paradise. But life in paradise comes with responsibilities. The condition of our beaches, lakes, rivers and lagoons is a major concern for locals and tourists alike.

The News-Journal’s ongoing investigative reports keep readers informed of the problems that grow beneath the surface of our beautiful waterways.

Award-winning environmental reporter, Dinah Pulver, continues to keep watch over our fragile ecosystem to help us understand what’s happened and what can be done to maintain our way of life on the water.

Staying on top of environmental issues that affect us all is a job we take seriously.

Because of our people, we deliver more than the news to the Volusia/Flagler area. It’s just another way that we’re committed to our community.

Nobody delivers like we do.

Environment coverage.
