Class of 2004: You have been part of an historic event, creation of an ongoing community leadership program in Huntingdon County. Congratulations on completing the nine-month long course of study, on your faithful attendance and on your active participation in this learning experience. We invite you to join with us and other community leaders in building a healthy community – spiritually, socially, physically and economically. You are our County’s most important resource – people! Some of you are life- long residents of Huntingdon County and some are comparatively new to the community. All of you have shown a desire to give back to the community through community service and life- long learning – true signs of leadership. Best wishes to you.
Sincerely, Huntingdon County Commissioners Roy E. Thomas, Chairman Charles States R. Dean Fluke

May 27, 2004 Class of 2004: It has been an honor to be the facilitator for the kickoff year of Leadership Huntingdon County. Leadership Huntingdon County (LHC) was developed utilizing the principles of community leadership: • building personal leadership skills; • providing experiential learning about community organizations and issues; • providing an opportunity for learning through community service LHC was built on the desire of community leaders to create positive change in the County by building leaders. It was obvious from the very beginning that each of the participants had the desire to make a positive impact in their communities. I was very impressed with the diversity of experiences and background in this class of 2004. Vocations ranged from a VP of Juniata College to a retired farmer. The LHC class of 2004 was also very well represented geographically. Diversity helped to create a great learning environment. The success of all county leadership programs is based upon individual responsibility, values, and teamwork. Everyone made a positive contribution. It is hoped that with each successive year, LHC will continue to attract people who want to be community leaders – leaders who serve and who make a difference in their community. LHC will continue to work to improve the program, providing activities, information, speakers, and an environment that will help participants to reach their full leadership potential. Sincerely, Bennett Hoffman, Facilitator Leadership Huntingdon County

OUR BELIEFS • We believe in the mission of Community Leadership – to strengthen and transform communities.
• We believe that directors must become leadership development professionals able to facilitate learning and to empower others.
• We believe all people in a community should be involved in making a community work – a true leader-full community.
• We believe everyone has the gifts and talents – part of the light – which will lead to answers and solutions the community needs.
• We believe leadership development must create servant leaders who have the capacities to get people to work together.
• We believe the “Best Test for Servant Leadership” sets the expectations for behavior in leadership development program: “Do those served, while being served become healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to become servants.”
• We believe that leadership skills for the 21st century are life skills. All parts of life – home, work, play, service, require the same skills and capabilities.
• And, we believe that true servant leaders create leaders who create leaders who create leaders.
