WHO WE ARE

Die Fähre e.V. was founded in 2003 by German- and Russian-speaking writers to promote bilingual literary dialogue; today its 20 members - writers, poets and journalists - are of 7 nationalities: German, Russian, Romanian, Ukrainian, Kazakhstani, Korean and Estonian.

“Die Babylonische Gärten” (German) is a cultural online journal, with articles on various topics such as literature, music, theatre, migration.

Where? Our “garden” is in Hanover, North of Germany.

And here are the “Babylonians” …

WHAT WE DO

We organise regular cultural events: bilingual readings, lectures, theatrical performances and music (over 50 so far)

Publish literary texts by migrants, bilingual or in German, in our ‘Edition Fähre’ press: poetry, fiction and autobiography.

Publish an online magazine: ‘Babylonische Gärten – Zeitung für transkulturelle Angelegenheiten’ (The Gardens of Babylon – A Journal for Transcultural Affairs)

To pulverise stereotypes and prejudice and stimulate trans-cultural perceptions of a multiple society

To offer a creative platform for people from all cultures

To enhance opportunities for migrants with journalistic and literary interests and/or experience

To ease access to culture, overcome language and cultural barriers and enrich the European cultural language of ‘The Other’

To raise appreciation of cultural heterogeneity despite or also because of our many differences.

WHY DO WE DO WHAT WE DO?
