Positive psychology, a field whose goa l is to c hange

the foc us from what c auses a troub led mind towhat causes a happy one, c ontends tha t op timists

a re better off tha t pessimists. In heart d isease, inpartic ula r, researc h has shown tha t op timism hasbeen assoc ia ted with a lowered risk of dying. In

one study, pa tients who desc ribed themselves ashighly op timistic had lower risks of a ll-c ause dea th
