50TH ANNUAL PERU MISSION DINNER SAVE THE DATE - OCTOBER 8
Since Fr. Al was assigned at SJN, the parish has sup-ported the Chimbote Foundation through this annual dinner. This year’s dinner will again be at the Shera-ton Station Square Hotel. In the past, we have al-ways bought several tables & we plan to continue the tradition again this year. The cost for an individual dinner is usually around $150. If you can donate at least a portion of this cost and are interested in attend-ing, please call the parish office. The reception begins at 6 PM and dinner is at 7 PM. Following the dinner is a video program about the Foundation’s work in Peru. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Parish Office at Ext. 10.
JOIN US FOR BREAKFAST
The Appalachia Workcampers will be sponsor-
ing a fund raising breakfast on Sunday Sept. 20th after all Masses. Join us for pancakes, sausage and eggs plus other goodies. Free
will offering. Great opportunity to catch up with current and past Workcampers - bring the whole family. Hope to see you there!
NEW HYMNALS The new hymnals, Gather Comprehensive, the blue copy
have taken the place of both the Breaking Bread and the
old Green Gather Hymnals. The readings and the new
language are all included in this new hymnal. The Gloria
and Creed are on the inside cover. If you are interested
in an old copy of the Green Gather Hymnal, they are
available in the back of the church.
GOD’S WORD TODAY Each week when we gather for Mass the Lord has some-
thing to say to us. Today’s Gospel recounts the familiar
story of the curing of the deaf man who had a speech
impediment. This miracle story is surely meant for us to
ponder the meaning of what occurs when we are
“opened,” like that deaf man, to the power of God. We
need look no further than the second reading to discover
this meaning. Saint James gets to the heart of it all when
he tells us that God chose the poor in this world to be
rich inheritors of the kingdom of heaven. James exhorts
us to treat people fairly and not to judge based on out-
ward appearances. At our baptism, we experienced what
the Church calls the “Ephphatha Rite,” a rite that is in-
spired by today’s Gospel story. At that time, the priest or
deacon touched our ears and mouth, praying that we
would “be open” to professing the faith we hear. Let us
pray that we will see with new eyes, hear with new ears,
and respond to all in ways that are fair and just. From Saint Margaret Sunday Missal, copyright © J. S. Paluch Company
RENEW The Beatitudes for Today - Small Groups Forming
It’s time again for small groups to meet at SJN to share
our faith journeys. This fall and next spring, we’ll pray
about and study the beatitudes (a significant tenet of our
faith which we have not yet talked about in small
groups.) We hope you can join us!
Group signups will take place the weekend of Sep-
tember 26/27. Groups will meet for six weeks, begin-
ning the week of October 11. We have groups that meet
most days of the week, at different times.
For more information, please contact Linda Young at
TAKE A LOOK Want to take a closer look at the ways of
the Catholic Church? Consider yourself
invited and welcome! Come on Thursday, September
10 at 7 PM. Bring a friend. We’ll provide some re-
freshments and a start to the conversation of who we are
as Catholic Christians. No obligation - just come and
take a look! Call Barb Stokes (Ext. 13) or Fr. Al if you
need more information.
SHINING THE LIGHT OF CHRIST! The annual Bishop’s Education Fund collection is next
week-end, Sept. 12-13. Many students in our diocese
would like to benefit from a Catholic school education,
but a number of those students need financial assistance.
Your generosity make that assistance available. Thank
you in advance and putting your faith in action!

lisher for the Archdiocese of Chicago. The book covers
all Sunday and Holy Day gospels from September 2015

Middle School Faith Formation As the school year begins, it is important that we remem-
ber that our middle schoolers need more than just a secu-
lar education. That’s why we offer two options for
middle school faith formation.
Ignite held every other Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 pm,
is for 7th & 8th graders. A faith filled and fun Core Team
(consisting of both high school teens and adults) commu-
nicates the faith in a way that middle schoolers can relate
to. The Core Team is essential to the success of the pro-
gram and more help is needed for this year. Ignite in-
cludes: scripture study, learning, icebreakers, small
group discussion, presentations by catechists, skits, ac-
tivities, worship, prayer, fellowship and media presenta-
tions. We strive to ignite the faith of the middle schoolers
and help prepare them to receive the sacrament of Con-
firmation.
Small Group Faith Sharing
Held on Mondays from 7:30-9:00pm the Middle School
Small Group Faith Sharing is led by Mr. John Wall.
Mr. Wall, a 28 year veteran in religious education and
ministry, leads an interactive faith discussion covering
the upcoming Sunday readings. The group talks about
how to apply the Gospel message to everyday life.
