Hey Calvary, Today we’re talking about “Lukewarm in Laodicea.” The church at Laodicea had everything this world had to offer, but they were self-sufficient...trying to live the Christian life without depending on Jesus. They said, “I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing” (Rev 3:17). Would that describe the American church today? Possibly Calvary Church?

I asked a few people, “What has caused you to grow lukewarm in your faith?” Here are a few responses: they have been burned, they have been disappointed with God because he didn’t come through, at times they were doing ministry without intimacy or dependence on Christ, at times it was because they quit going to small groups.

I’m sure you could add to the list. My prayer for Calvary is described in Luke 24:32, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

Lord, give us burning hearts for You!

Welcome the Neighbors Hey Calvary! Trunk-or-Treat is coming to Calvary Thursday, October 31. This year we’ll serve a simple hot dog meal, distribute treats, and try indoor black light dodgeball for youth.

Indoor and outdoor volunteers are needed (we’ll make adjustments as needed for weather), including set-up, candy distributions (from car trunks), kitchen helpers, and recreation SPECIALISTS!

Activities will formally run from 6:00-7:30. Sign up in the foyer today and drop off candy donations any time in the next few weeks. Contact Missy Eastlund at 701-799-5419 with questions.

Why Baptism? A believer’s baptism is an immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Believer’s baptism is an act of identification with Christ symbolizing your faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior. It is a public commitment to Christ’s people and a symbolic burial of your old life as you commit to walk in the resurrection power (and newness of life) of Jesus. Our next believer’s baptism opportunity will be offered Sunday, November 17. Want to know more? Contact Pastor Dave or sign up in the foyer today.

What’s in a creed? The “Knowing Faith” podcast features Village Church leaders JT English, Kyle Worley, & Jen Wilken as they explore how our faith is grounded on Scripture. Recently they’ve begun in a line-by-line focus on the power and meaning of the Apostle’s Creed. Check it out!
