• Provides business-oriented view– useful for planners, managers,

strategists– emphasizes process components

interactivity, and roles– sets requirements for system solution

• Represents industry-consensus on Service Provider processes– harmonized position across global

scene based on Member contributions– must be tailored/ extended for individual

companies• Submission of eTOM to ITU-T SG 4 to

become a “de jure” recommendation; decision awaited form SG 4 by May 2004

• New frontier on usage of distributed, collaborative and teachable process engines to dramatically enhance flexibility of OSSs and supported services: WANTS platform (patent pending)

• Feasibility studies related to the application of Robotics solutions to reduce low profile time-consuming activities within Operational Centers.

OSS Platform: new trends and challenges

• GRID platforms: distributed platforms as enablers for a much better hardware utilization, but are applications/OSS ready for that?– NOT YET !

• Workflow as a key technology for flexibility with two challenges:– need improved Service Creation to really drive and control the

business;– complex and federated platforms demand for multilayer and/or

cooperative process engines.• Unification information models is still an issue that requires true

convergence and diffusion of data standards.– Emerging market for data reconciliation solutions

• Role of Element Manager (EM) under discussion for flow-through provisioning.
