I. Introduction

What It Takes to Be an Instructional Leader

My first goal as a school leader was to plan that is crafted on shared goal of the

Department of Education and create a sense of oneness with a clearly defined school

mission and vision. I must say that it was never that easy. Developing a positive

attitude towards their work to meet a common goal and that is to educate the 21st

century learners.

As instructional leader involves in setting goals, allocating resources of

instruction, managing the curriculum, monitoring lesson plans and evaluating

teachers, in short it reflects those actions to promote growth in students learning.

The leader makes instructional system as a top priority of the school and attempts to

bring that vision into realization thus focus towards improving teaching and learning.

I. School Leadership , Management Operations

Performed school leadership, management and operation functions effectively

that has been improved efficiency indicators by 2%. The school also improved from

0 to level 1 SBM level by the end of the school year through updated required

pertinent documents by creating a committee working harmoniously to provide the

needed data. Brainstorming/ exchange of ideas in crafting Strategic plan SIP and AIP

through the collaborative effort of the student leaders, teachers, stakeholders and

school heads.

Proper utilization and allocation of financial resources with "zero" demand lette

through 100% on time liquidate before the 25th of the month. Proper documentatio n

II. Professional Growth and Outstanding Accomplishment

Good things come to those who believe, better things come to those who are

patient and best thing comes to those who don t give up. Professional development

is the key to meeting today's educational demands. It provides opportunities for

practice, research and reflection which include extra efforts that are embedded and

sustained that will assist in the goal to remain updated. Leadership training that

occur before the beginning and at the middle part of the school year sustained a big

support to address the need and problems that may arise in the organization. Also,

pursuing higher education for doctor's degree, serve as a resource speaker,

publication of articles and attending international seminar is an accomplishment that

we can share to others. When we can inspire and instill love for teaching learning

comes out and make impossible things possible.

III. Instructional Leadership

Staff members meet on a regular basis to discuss their work, collaborate effort to

solve existing problems, reflects on their jobs and take responsibility for what

students should learn. Also, making suggestions and giving feedback, modeling

effective instruction, soliciting opinions and giving praise for effective teaching. As a

leader I should know what is going on in the classroom. That is why on a given day

students and teachers will see me walking the halls, praising student work and

acknowledging what teachers are doing. It needs to work closely with the teachers

and students, developing teaching techniques and methods as a means for

understanding teacher perspectives and for establishing a base on which to make

curricular decisions. It is not enough to know the strengths and weaknesses of every

teacher but to recognize teachers desires to be acknowledged and appreciate for a

job well done. From my experience , teachers seek tiny morsels of praise and

assurance that I am there to support them as a resource provider.

Instructional Observation. This is one of my favorite tasks because it gives me an

opportunity to further involved in the daily happenings in our school. It provides

teachers positive feedback to consider and reflect upon and a better room of

improving their performance inside their classroom. Coaches can also assist teachers

in using data to established student grouping arrangements and pinpoint specific

student intervention needs

IV. Learning Environment

It refers to the diverse physical locations, contexts and cultures in which the

students learn. Since students may learn in a wide variety of settings such as outside-

of- school locations and outdoor environments, the term is often used as a more

accurate or prepared alternative to classroom, which has more limited and

traditional connotations- a room with rows of desk and a chalkboard for example.

The term also encompasses the culture of a school or class- its presiding ethos

and characteristics including how individuals interact with and treat one another - as

well as the ways in which teachers may organize an educational setting to facilitate

learning. Some of the components that I observe during class observations include:

> the characteristics of the learner;

> the goals for teaching and learning;

> the activities that best support learning;

the assessment strategies that will best measure and drive learning;

> the culture that infuses the learning environment;

> lastly the enjoyment on the part of the learners while learning.

Students learn in many different ways in different contexts. Since learners must

do the learning that optimizes the ability of students to learn. There is of course no

single optimum learning environment. There is an infinite number of possible

learning environment, which is what makes teaching so interesting. Maimpis

Integrated school both Junior and Senior H.S. offers a safe and child friendly learning

environment for the learners. Facilities and equipment needed by the learners were

monitored to assure the safety of the users ( seminars and orientation among our

students and parents were given emphasis such as fire prevention month, (..

earthquake drill, vaccination etc. In addition our school also maintained zero drop /.

out rate through the implementation of DepEd programs and policies on anti bullying,

with proper monitoring of our school guidance coordinator. School policies and

guidelines were given emphasis during the first day of parents, guardians and

students orientation. Follow up on the policy inserted during Parents In Students Out

(PISO) every quarter. Lastly adequate resources from functional quality chairs, tables,

computer laboratory clean and well maintained comfort rooms for students, parents

and visitors. We all know that the teacher /educator has the main responsibility for

creating an appropriate learning environment, but it is also important to consider

learning environment from the learners perspective. Indeed mature learners are

capable of creating their own, personal, relatively autonomous learning

environments.

ft Parents Involvement and Community Partnership

Establishing school and community partnership for school performance. We

conducted General Homeroom PTA officers and supervised and make consultative

meeting with the officers. Gather data and suggestions for possible projects.

Intensive monitoring of suggested projects that lead to produce projects that are

beneficial on the part of the students.

Maintained zero drop out rate throughout the school year and attained 100%

increased on promotion rate in the school report card. Almost 75% on parents

attendance during cards out every grading period.

We also obtained resources from Aboitiz 10 computer set with table and chairs

plus printers, one unit vehicle and engine ass was also donated by DPWH. Moreover,

we also involved community advocacy through campaign for early registration,

career talk at St Vincent of Quebiawan and San Isidro Integrated School for our

Senior High School with the active participation of teachers. Lastly recognizing

stakeholders accomplishments in the school projects and programs.Awards wer

given during the Stakeholder's Day in our respective school to appreciate their

untiring efforts and support to our learners.

Within a year of experience, it takes more than a strong leader with concrete

idea and technical expertise. It require a redefinition of the role of instructional

leader, one that removes the barriers to leadership by eliminating bureaucratic

structures and reinventing harmonious relationship. Instructional improvement is an

important goal , a goal worth seeking, and a goal that, when implemented , allows

both teachers and teachers to make a more meaningful learning environment.
