Background• Guillermo del Toro Gomez was born on October 9,

1964 in Guadalajara, Mexico. He was raised by his grandmother. His love for film work started in his teens.

• He gains inspiration for his films through the works of: James Whale- best known as the director of Frankenstein 1931, Mario Bava- an Italian Horror director and writer, George A. Romera- the zombie movie legend, and Alfred Hitchcock- the Master of Suspense.

• Although Guillermo is best known for his directing and screenwriting he also has a background in makeup. In the 80’s Guillermo del Toro spent nearly a decade forming and serving as a make-up supervisor of the company Necropia.

• At the same time of his creation of Necropia, Guillermo was still producing/directing programs for Mexican television and taught film workshops. He co-founded Guadalajara’s Film Studies Center and the Guadalajara-based Mexican Film Festival, in effort to make his hometown a Mexican cinema mecca.

• Guillermo del Toro’s Cronos (1993) was his first featured directing project. This film put him on the maps and he was labeled a Mexican film rising star. It was a winner of the critics’ prize at the Cannes.

• He’s since gone on to produce, direct, and write many memorable films. He also collaborated with Guillermo Navarro- cinematogropher, Matthew Cullen- director, and Javier Jimenez-executive producer, in forming a production company names Mirada. Mirada found such success that it started the creation of another production company, Motion Theory.

• Guillermo is married to his high school sweetheart and they have 2 children together.

• Guillermo del Toro is one of the great imaginative director and writers of our time. He is known for his impeccable storytelling skills. Creating wonder when he shows us new worlds terrifying us by the creatures designed in his head.

• He is able to take images he sees in his mind and give us breathtaking films. • His main genres are fantasy and horror; where his love for the previous horror

movie greats shows. • It is easy to spot a Guillermo del Toro films by the beautifully imaginative sets

and character makeup.• He has his hand in nearly every step of the filmmaking process. • It also seems that actor Ron Perlman has a role and near all his films.
