Greetings Everyone!
Welcome to another edition of our school newsletter, Yimbalji. We have
had a very busy start to the term, with NAIDOC Day at the school and in
Community, and the Southern Cape Cluster Small Schools Athletics Carnival.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us in these events.
Coming up, we invite parents and family members to Book Week
celebrations next Tuesday. We encourage all students to dress up as their
favourite book character. There will be books for sale at lunch times all
week. Book week also marks the conclusion of the Premier’s Reading
Challenge. Please send in completed forms by Friday 25th August. Students
who successfully read the required number of books will receive a certificate
signed by the Premier.
Today, all families with children attending this school have received a copy
of the School Opinion Survey and a confidentiality envelope. The School
Opinion Survey gives you an opportunity to have your say about what this
school does well and how this school can improve. Please complete the
survey, place it in the envelope provided, seal and return it to the school as
soon as possible. Final date for returns is Friday 25th August.
School photos will be on Wednesday 30th August. Orders can be placed
online or on an order form which will be sent home soon. A variety of Photo
Packs can be ordered and sibling photos can also be requested.
I will be taking two weeks Long Service Leave later this term. The Relieving
Principal while I am away is Ms Jacquie Price, who is currently working at

Hello Parents, Carers and Community Members,
It has already been a very busy start to Term 3 with several community events. At the beginning of the term we celebrated NAIDOC Day with the community at the school, which was enjoyed by all the students. The Sports Carnival was a huge success and students enjoyed having the visiting schools participate.
We have been busy with lots of learning in Prep/1/2. In English we are focusing on continuing to learn our sounds including long vowel sounds, and are exploring the book Hey Little Ant in our L4L unit. In Mathematics we are focusing on measurement including mass and length, numbers 0-100, place value, and time just to name a few.
A reminder to all parents, carers and community members students have the best chance at success when they attend school EVERY DAY.

What?: National Data Collection is where schools collect data
on students with disabilities and the levels of reasonable
adjustments they receive to support their learning. This data
is used to inform long term planning and to review systems
which teachers and education staff use to support students.
Why?: Every school is to use the same method to collect the
data (government and non-government). This allows
information to be consistent, reliable and systematic.
How is privacy protected? All students are automatically
included in the data collection. Personal details such as
student names are not provided. Other information which
will identify a student is protected and not uploaded by the
system. Parents can request for their student not to be
included by contacting the school. More information
needed? Please contact the school or visit

Our Student of the
Month for
Quaneisha
Quaneisha is always a happy, helpful and enthusiastic member of our class. She always
tries her best, gives everything a red hot go and follows the class/school rules.
Quaneisha enjoys answering questions and sharing her ideas during our class discussions.
It is obvious that her enthusiastic approach to learning, positive attitude, imagination
and creativity inspire her to learn. Quaneisha is a delight to have in our classroom.

Newsletter Year 2, 3 Class
Week 5
Again it is already half way
through Term 3 and I am happy to say that students are continuing to work hard on improving their learning and
are still working towards meeting the targets expected of them.
If at any time you would like to discuss your child’s progress please contact me. Please remember that in
order for your child to have the best chance of achieving successful outcomes they must attend school
every day. Unfortunately if your child does not have constant attendance, this will be reflected in their
overall achievement.
What are we learning about this term?
In English we are continuing with our writing program. I am very excited to
inform you that we have had several comments by various adults on how well
we form our letters and write our words. We are continuing to learn about
grammar, comprehension, spelling rules, sight words, and working on our
reading. We are now learning to write Information Reports with our focus book
One Tiny Turtle. In Mathematics we are continuing to learn new concepts and
revise them daily. Some of our new concepts include. We have also
introduced a Mental Computation lesson each Wednesday. This aims to
assist students in making quick calculations and
estimations mentally.
Our Geography unit this term is all about
Exploring features of places. In this unit students will investigate what places are
like? What are the different features of places? How can we care for places? How
can spaces within a place be rearranged to suit different purposes? And what is a
place?
Please sit with and encourage your child to complete their homework each night and
return it completed on Friday Mornings.
Our art classes in Wujal Wujal are a great opportunity for students to get out of the classroom. Please feel free to
come and join us on a Tuesday afternoon. Our focus this term is the story of the Gruffalo. So far we have drawn
images and characters from the book and are now looking at
instruments that portray the characters in the story.
We love seeing families in our classroom so if you do
have some spare please come and say Hi and join our
lessons. You are always welcome.

Around the classes with Miss Vicki
HPE:
It was fantastic to see the improvements with student’s skills and participation at
the Sports Day at Wujal Wujal. Family, friends and community members were
there to cheer and enjoy the day as well. What a
great effort with the school war cry as well. I am
sure it could be heard all the way to Cooktown.
We are now practising soccer skills to be ready for
the soccer carnival at Laura towards the end of
term. Go! Bloomfield!
READING GROUPS: In all classes we are re-
visiting using the strategy of Eagle Eye to
look at the pictures and clues to help us.
Miss Melissa’s class has been practising
changing their voice tone to suit the
character. What a great job they are doing.
MATHS GROUPS: The focus has been on
counting, using dice, numbers in order and
rainbow number facts. Miss Tammy’s class
and Mr Steve enjoy the “Race the Rainbow”. Rolling dice, adding numbers and
counting. Miss Jo’s class are being sporty with Maths Olympic challenges to
practise their measuring skills.
BOOK WEEK: I have my costume as a book character
sorted!! I love books, reading and I love dress ups. It is an
exciting week with the Book Fair and Book Week coming up.
Remember: R.I.B.I.T (Read In Bed It’s Terrific!)

NAIDOC Day Celebrations
2017

News from the 3-6 class
We have already reached the halfway point
of Term 3, a term in which we have already
had NAIDOC celebrations both in school and
in the community, the cluster athletics
carnival,
art lessons in Wujal Wujal, as well as the daily
school lessons.
It has been a productive term of teaching and
learning so far! We are reading How to Train Your
Dragon, making a comparison between the novel
and the movie. This has inspired the students to
paint a scene from the novel in art and make a model dragon in technology!
Attendance has been fantastic all year but has dropped recently. We need to
remember EVERY DAY COUNTS to help our students to be strong and smart.
Homework needs to be done regularly too to assist our students’ progress. Many thanks
to those parents who are encouraging students to do
their homework. The school year is flying by. We
have Book Week, Laura soccer carnival, a robotics
workshop and a circus workshop coming up in the
next few weeks. Let’s finish the term strongly!

FAFT NEWS Miss Bec has now taken Miss Vanessa’s place doing the FaFT at Playgroup every Thursday morning. If you haven’t had a chance to attend a FaFT session yet, it designed to empower families and provide them with the resources to be their Child’s first teachers in the early years before school.
“It has been lovely getting to meet parents and children and I look forward to meeting more families in the coming weeks.” Come and FaFT with us!!!
