I realize that many people are ready to fast-forward to Christmas, but not me. I love Thanksgiving. But, if you are like me, one single day of Thanksgiving just isn’t enough. It takes a while to “count our many blessings and name them one by one.” In fact, the whole month of November is a month filled with reasons to be thankful. The month begins with All Saints Day on November 1st. On that day we give thanks for the generations of faithful Christians before us who now live in heaven. On Sunday, November 2, we will share together in the prayer known as The Great Thanksgiving during Holy Communion. Then, on Tuesday, November 4, is Election Day. That day more than any other ought to remind us of the blessings of being a citizen in a democratic nation. The next reminder to be thankful comes on the following Tuesday, November 11, Veterans Day. It is a day set aside for us to thank those who have served our nation in the military. Then, on Sunday, November 23rd is "Christ the King Sunday," the last Sunday of the Christian year. It brings to a close the year-long telling of the life of Jesus that begins with Advent and Christmas and continues through Lent and Easter and Penetcost season and ends on Christ the King Sunday. On Thursday of that same week is Thanksgiving Day, when we thank God for blessing our ancestors through seasons of hunger and plenty. And then, finally, the last day of November, is the first Sunday of Advent, the beginning of the new Christian year. So, all through November are several powerful reminders that we have many reasons to be thankful. The Worship Committee is suggesting that we all take the time to write one Thank You note every day during November. Write thank you notes to firefighters and police officers, to your doctor, teachers, neighbors, government leaders, that special clerk at the store, the co -worker who lifts your spirits, the person in the pew behind you that always asks how you’re doing, etc. This first week of November we encourage you to write a thank you to people who have been the hands and feet of Christ for you at times in your life when you needed it. Each week at church we’ll share a different suggestion for your notes.

What’s Inside A Month of Thanksgiving

Dear Friends, This weekend I found myself humming a favorite Thanksgiving hymn. A Classical Evening of Thanksgiving

November 23 @ 6:00 pm

Some of our more "seasoned" musicians in the church are going back and dusting off some recital and contest solos that they performed many years ago and are preparing to present them again in a special musical recital. The evening's musical selections will include vocal, instrumental, bells, piano and organ selections. Everyone is invited to attend and to ask someone to attend with you. Please mark your calendar for this wonderful evening.

The 14th Annual Pumpkin Patch for Mission is wrapping up as you receive this article. As we anxiously anticipate the 9th Annual Trunk-or-Treat, we are so pleased to announce that we have sold over $40,000 in pumpkins this year! And, we are still selling, with most other locations around town having already run out of pumpkins to sell! Another amazing year! This year we opened later than usual, beginning on October 6th, but you can’t tell it by comparing the numbers to the sales numbers we have had in the past. This change allowed us to need fewer servant seller hours during the month. Thank you to Ken and Ruth Peacock for the donation of 260 bales of hay which transforms our grounds and Pavilion into the Pumpkin Patch that means so much to so many. Thank you to Phil & Jennifer Spencer and J&K Equipment Inc. for the donation of a commercial grade fork lift for the unloading of pallets on our first truck. What a difference it makes. Speaking of fork lifts...Thank you to Harvey and Judy Lewis who allowed us the use of their tractor for the month to unload pallets off of the trucks, but also for the countless Hay Ride loops for the Outdoor Classroom. It is rapidly becoming the most photographed tractor and trailer in the region! The Outdoor Classroom ran so smoothly under the direction of Mendi Burns, who was assisted by Ellen Nantz. School children from all over the area came to hear stories, play in the maze, learn about science and math, and most importantly, pick out their perfect pumpkin. Thank you ladies, and thank you to all of our

Outdoor Classroom Servants! You each make a huge impact in children’s visits to the Pumpkin Patch and we can’t do it without you! The Hance Henrie Memorial Run on October 11th was quite damp and cool, but perfect for running. The Run Group always does an amazing job organizing and hosting the event, and this year was no exception. Thank you to those who prepared and served a pumpkin perfect pancake breakfast to runners and their families! It was delicious! Thank you also to all involved for remembering Hance so wonderfully. Thank you to the United Methodist Men who continue to help move our necessary items from storage to the Pumpkin Patch and then return them. (A tradition that will surely end soon!) Your help is priceless to us and so much appreciated! Thank you to all who sold pumpkins this year. The hours you serve are many, but the impact they make on others is astounding! Church, you are truly the hands and feet of Christ and we cannot thank you enough for your servant spirit! Celebrating with you that it isn’t about pumpkins after all…It’s about people! Good News. Great Joy. A small shoebox can teach a child about the love of God, lead him or her to faith in Christ, inspire pastors, and plant new churches. What goes in the box is fun, but what comes out is eternal. Be a part of changing lives through the power of a simple gift. This month we will be participating in Operation Christmas Child. We will be preparing these shoebox gifts in our homes as part of our Orange Devotional for November. These shoeboxes will need to be brought to Orange Worship one of the first three Sundays in November, the 2nd, 9th, and 16th but no later than the 16th. Please refer to the Parent Cue Card, or a link on our church website for details on packing your shoebox gift. YOUR GIFT AND THE MESSAGE OF JESUS CHRIST WILL IMPACT THE LIFE OF A CHILD WHO

MAY NEVER BEFORE HAVE RECEIVED A CHRISTMAS GIFT.

The SNAP challenge offers people of all backgrounds a chance to see first hand what life is like for millions of Americans facing hunger. By accepting the SNAP challenge, you’ll commit to eating all of your meals from a limited food budget, just like the average SNAP recipient. This amounts to…

$1.50 per person per meal How do I/we take the challenge: (1)The usual duration of the challenge is for a week

(5 days) but you can choose the duration of the challenge

(2)Your food budget for the week or day of your challenge will be based on the average SNAP benefit, which is $4.50 per person per day for ALL food and beverage. You can use coupons but should not shop at membership clubs, like Sam’s

(3)During the challenge, only eat food purchased for the challenge. Do not eat food that you purchased earlier (except for spices and condiments)

(4)Avoid accepting free food from friends, family, or while at work.

(5)Keep track of receipts on food spending and take note of your experiences throughout the week, in particular the choices you made between the variety and quality of food you ate (fresh vs. canned, healthy vs. cheap)

(6)Invite others to join you and share your experience through social media or another outlet

* We are looking at the week of November 17-21 as a time to invite you to take the SNAP challenge. Most of us do not worry about where our next meal is going to come from, but for many of the folks that come to our church for food pantry and/or utility assistance, this is a real struggle. We hope that by participating in this challenge that you will experience just a bit of what these individuals and families experience and raise awareness of hunger and food insecurity issues in Oklahoma and beyond. For more information, please contact Andy Henson ([email protected])

A Mobile Patch! As we approach the grand finale, Trunk or Treat, of the Pumpkin Patch for Missions, I am really thankful to be a part of this grand month of October. From the inhalation of hay dust in the back of the trailers during the unloading events, to the smiling faces of the little ones as they make their way through the Patch to find just the right pumpkin, it has been an amazing month! We took the Patch mobile some this year as well. With the giant pumpkin painted by resident artist, Judy Kimball, the antics of BJ Danner, the mission contacts of Andy Henson, the story telling of Holly Cinocca, and others, we visited the Baptist Children’s Home, Mustard Seed Day Care in Claremore, Wesley UMC in Tulsa, Dividing Bread, Mission Owasso and an assortment of businesses. It was a blessing to me to be able to take the patch on the road. We will see what next year brings and I will leave you with this picture that says it all:

Blessings, Pastor Jim Cinocca, Jr.
