A Message From Our President
Lansing Chapter Members,
What a great chapter year we have been having, and in such a short period of time!
I am beyond thrilled with our most recent seminar, Skills for Auditor Success,
presented by Raven Catlin. There were sixteen in attendance ranging from all
different backgrounds. I had the pleasure of hearing a couple sessions from a
nearby conference room, and could tell how interesting, exciting, and creative
Raven’s lessons are. The Lansing Chapter is truly grateful for great presenters in the
IIA network! Below are a couple of photos from the training.
The next CPE event for the Chapter is on Tuesday, December 8th.
Join Joe Koenig in his riveting afternoon session where he will be discussing his
book, Getting to know the Truth, as well as devoting 2CPEs worth of ETHICS
training! It’s a fraud and ethics filled afternoon for all those who would like to
attend. The afternoon session will be held at Jackson National Life Company,
located at 1 Corporate Way, Lansing MI. The time is from 1:00PM to 4:30PM, and
will include a break for networking and light refreshments to be served. The price is
$40.00 for members, and $50.00 for non-members. This is a great price for 3 CPEs!
Registration information is located in the pages to follow!
Hope to see you in December!

A Note From the Editor

Giving Thanks
This time of year can be overwhelming for a number of reasons. Our To-Do lists, both professional and personal, seem to grow longer as the year end approaches at light-ning speed. Regardless of the many tasks at hand, it’s important to take some time this holiday season to reflect and give thanks.
Many of us will be celebrating the time honored tradition of Thanksgiving. We will be stuffing our turkeys and ourselves and then settling in for a football game or for an afternoon nap with sweet dreams of pumpkin pie dancing in our heads. For me, Thanksgiving is a time to take stock of how fortunate I am; to count my blessings and give thanks to my family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, fellow community members and to my internal audit professional network.
As a colleague in this crazy profession, a citizen of Michigan and a potential customer of the many organiza-tions that make up our chapter membership, I offer my sincere thanks to you for doing what you do every-day. Your roles as audit professionals helping your organizations become better places to work, do business with and more positively impact your communities.
Thank you for making the oftentimes difficult decisions, uncomfortable observations and having those, sometimes uneasy, conversations that need to be had—all while maintaining high ethical standards. I am proud to be a part of a profession that consists of good, moral people dedicated to doing the right thing re-gardless of how challenging it may be.
Know that you and your contributions to the profession and your organization are necessary, recognized and most importantly, appreciated.
I wish everyone success in your year end activities and that you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Regards,
Melanie

Chapter Achievement Program (CAP)
CAP Progress Report
Do any of your internal audit activities earn Chapter Achievement
Program (CAP) points for your Lansing Chapter of the IIA? What is
CAP, why is it important and what can you do to help?
The Chapter Achievement Program (CAP) is designed by the Institute
of Internal Auditors to guide chapters for developing quality programs
and completing administrative duties to ensure it is meeting its
obligations to its membership. Points are awarded for each activity
based upon the activity in accordance with IIA guidelines. The goal is
to provide valuable professional activities and development
opportunities to the membership and earn CAP points while doing it!
Certain activities that are conducted by membership may qualify. If
any of your activities qualify or you would like to know whether they
qualify, please contact Ryan O’Rourke at [email protected].
There are four performance levels that can be achieved.
BRONZE - 685 CAP Points
SILVER - 1,060 CAP Points
GOLD - 1,560 CAP Points
PLATINUM - This is a special level created to recognize
chapters that attain GOLD status for 10 of 11 consecutive years.
QUALIFYING ACTIVITIES
Articles submitted or published in
Internal Auditor magazine
Speaking engagements at chapter
or other IIA meetings
Participation in establishment of a
student chapter of the IIA
Sponsorship of student attendance
at chapter meetings
Participation in a Junior Achieve-
ment (JA) program or activity
Holding Internal Audit Awareness
Month activities (May)
Serving on an International Com-
mittee of the IIA
Writing exam questions for IIA
certifications: CIA, CCSA, CFSA,
CGAP
Other miscellaneous Service to
the Profession activities.
The Lansing Chapter hopes to continue to hold the designation of PLATINUM. CAP points reported in Oc-
tober 2015 is 1044. The goal for CAP points to maintain the current designation is a minimum of 1560 each
calendar year. Retaining our status is of great importance, however, it is more important that we offer the
membership valuable services and we as members do our obligatory role within our organizations and com-
munities by reaching out, educating and proving our value. Be sure to notify Ryan O’Rourke at
[email protected] if you have any CAP points to report.
Points are reported to the IIA on the 10th of each month covering three areas:
Service to Members (primarily involves attendance at monthly meetings, conferences and seminars);
Service to the Program (involves areas including Advocacy for the IIA and involvement with Academic
areas such as student groups); and
Chapter Administration (involves administrative reporting requirements from the IIA).
