What a glorious day for us in Newport and Monroe, what a glorious day for the Church of Detroit and the universal barque presided over by Pope Francis, what a glorious day of faith, hope and love for all mankind. Jesus’ Resurrection from the dead is not just an important event in his life and ministry, it is the unimagined prodigy which only God could effect, upon which our entire religion, our sacraments, our hope, draws its life’s blood. This singular event in the history of mankind is what turned a band of disheartened apostles into a bold band of disciples who were willing to lay down their lives for a truth which simply astounded them. He is risen!!! This band of disciples went through their own death and rose too with Jesus in their own Resurrection. The Resurrection, that is the coming from sorrow and defeat to joy and new life, is the first historic evidence we have of Jesus’ Resurrection. So too my brothers and sisters, our movement from death to life, in big ways and small, ultimately to be repeated definitively and for all time, is proof to us of Jesus’ Resurrection in us. Jesus reveals himself as the Lord of death and bringer in his flesh of supernatural life. This victim of man’s cruelty and unbelief, reveals himself as the one who, rather than being overwhelmed by death, actually hunted death and brought death forever to its knees. Now and forever we can hear St. Paul’s precious words: O’ death where is your victory, where is your sting. (1 Corinthians 15:55) In his Resurrection, Jesus revealed himself as Lord, as Savior, as forever friend of the race called human. Jesus’ Resurrection isn’t something that happened two thousand years ago and that’s that. Jesus’ Resurrection is something we too must share in if we are to have new life, if we are to move in big ways and small, from death to life, which is God’s plan for all creation. Easter comes at an important time for St. Charles and St. Anne this year. We are now more than ever needful of Jesus’ Resurrection, needful of moving from death to new life. I was taught a beautiful prayer when I went on retreat for my episcopal ordination which speaks to this movement; I say it regularly, especially at the Eucharist, I hope it might be helpful for you too at this important time in our parish history. The prayer goes like this: Jesus, come with your life, your Resurrection, into every dead part of my being. I like to say it three time in honor of the Holy Trinity, and know it helps me keep my eyes on Jesus and my hope in his Resurrection. I pray it will help you keep your eyes on him too, and your hope firmly anchored in his Resurrection. Peace, Bishop Battersby A message from our Bishop April 1, 2018 The Resurrection of The Lord

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Charles Borromeo and St. Anne’s,

He is risen, he is truly risen!!! What a glorious day for us in Newport

and Monroe, what a glorious day for the Church of Detroit and the

universal barque presided over by Pope Francis, what a glorious day of

faith, hope and love for all mankind. Jesus’ Resurrection from the dead

is not just an important event in his life and ministry, it is the unimagined

prodigy which only God could effect, upon which our entire religion, our

sacraments, our hope, draws its life’s blood. This singular event in the

history of mankind is what turned a band of disheartened apostles into a

bold band of disciples who were willing to lay down their lives for a

truth which simply astounded them. He is risen!!! This band of

disciples went through their own death and rose too with Jesus in their

own Resurrection. The Resurrection, that is the coming from sorrow and

defeat to joy and new life, is the first historic evidence we have of Jesus’

Resurrection. So too my brothers and sisters, our movement from death

to life, in big ways and small, ultimately to be repeated definitively and

for all time, is proof to us of Jesus’ Resurrection in us. Jesus reveals

himself as the Lord of death and bringer in his flesh of supernatural life.

This victim of man’s cruelty and unbelief, reveals himself as the one

who, rather than being overwhelmed by death, actually hunted death and

brought death forever to its knees. Now and forever we can hear St.

Paul’s precious words: O’ death where is your victory, where is your

sting. (1 Corinthians 15:55) In his Resurrection, Jesus revealed himself

as Lord, as Savior, as forever friend of the race called human. Jesus’

Resurrection isn’t something that happened two thousand years ago and that’s that. Jesus’ Resurrection is something we too must share

in if we are to have new life, if we are to move in big ways and small, from death to life, which is God’s plan for all creation. Easter

comes at an important time for St. Charles and St. Anne this year. We are now more than ever needful of Jesus’ Resurrection, needful

of moving from death to new life. I was taught a beautiful prayer when I went on retreat for my episcopal ordination which speaks to

this movement; I say it regularly, especially at the Eucharist, I hope it might be helpful for you too at this important time in our parish

history. The prayer goes like this: Jesus, come with your life, your Resurrection, into every dead part of my being. I like to say it three

time in honor of the Holy Trinity, and know it helps me keep my eyes on Jesus and my hope in his Resurrection. I pray it will help you

keep your eyes on him too, and your hope firmly anchored in his Resurrection.

Peace,

Bishop Battersby

Blessings to you and your family this Easter Weekend, As we enjoy this Holy Easter Weekend and celebrate Christ’s Resurrection, we remember his Divine Mercy. Throughout Lent our students have participated in various Lenten activities and prayers including weekly mass, communal penance, prayer services, stations of the cross, almsgiving, classroom projects, learning about Divine Mercy and prayerfully anticipating the beautiful Holy Week that leads us into the Easter Season. Their Lenten Journey has prepared them for this very holy season of Easter! Easter Time is the most important of all liturgical seasons. Easter is the celebration of the Lord’s resurrection, culminating in His Ascension to God the Father and the sending of the Holy Spirit upon the Church at Pentecost. There are 50 days of Easter from Easter Sunday to Pentecost. It is characterized, above all, by the joy of glorified life and the victory over death, expressed most fully in the Christian prayer, Alleluia! May you and your family enjoy this Holy Season and share Christ’s love with those around you. God Bless you and your families during this most holy season! Mrs. Catherine Grinn, Principal

More excerpts from Saint reports written by our confirmation students:

*A Student chose Saint Francis of Assisi: “He showed extreme charisma and gained many followers because of

this. Saint Francis would continually strive for spiritual perfection……. Saint Francis is the best saint for me because

he shows respect for all of God’s creations and pushed himself to be the best Christian that he could be by living by the

Gospel.”

*A Student chose Saint Charles: “I chose Saint Charles because my dad is named Charles. I really look up to

my dad and want my saint name to be connected to him. My dad is a good faith filled man who takes us to church and

makes sure we say our prayers. He shows me how to be close to God I like this saint because he was a hard worker

who made things change for the better. I want to make the world better too.”

*A Student chose Saint Lucia of Syracuse: “Saint Lucy demonstrates bravery and selflessness. I would like to

demonstrate these qualities because our world has forgot about these qualities. People can’t leave without their phone

or they can’t give their money to the weak or the poor. I feel bad for the people that can’t put people before

themselves; it’s what God would want us to do.”
