A Message from Marina
April 2017 Dear Neighbors,
Spring is here! Now that warmer weather is upon us, I hope you will make plans to take advantage of all the fantastic parks and outdoor amenities in District 4 and
surrounding areas.
Our investments in our local parks such as Pulaski Park and South Shore Park will make those public spaces more accessible and enjoyable, and I encourage you to
take advantage of all they have to offer.
This newsletter provides a brief update on proposed improvements to Baran Park
and a report back on re-opening of the Pulaski Park pavilion.
You will also find important announcements about the seasonal opening of the Miller 1855 Bar at South Shore Terrace, and the full schedule of the Traveling Beer Gar-
den.
Additionally, I've included a statement that I put out regarding action the County Board of Supervisors took to direct the Milwaukee County Transit System to submit a bid to operate the new Milwaukee Streetcar, and my statement on the terrible
hate crime that occurred earlier this week.
I've also included announcements about several community events that might be of interest, including the annual Kinnickinnic River cleanup, the Silver City neighborhood clean up and rummage sale, benefits resource fair for seniors, and a home im-
provement fair with opportunities for homeowners.
Lastly, as always, this update provides details on free days at some of Milwaukee County's outstanding cultural institutions, including the Milwaukee Art Museum, the
Milwaukee Public Museum, the Mitchell Park Domes, and the Milwaukee County Zoo.
In closing, I want to say “thanks” to those of you who have attended events with me in the district and provided your feedback about proposed or completed improve-
ments to our public facilities. Your input is essential and we appreciate it!
Sincerely,
Supervisor

Keg-Tapping to Open Beer-Garden Season, Highlight Improvements at South Shore Terrace, April 13
MILWAUKEE (April 10, 2017) – Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele, County Board Supervi-
sor Marina Dimitrijevic, a representative from Miller Coors, and Parks Director John Dargle, Jr.
will tap a ceremonial keg to kick off the beer-garden season, April 13 at 4 p.m., rain or shine, at
the Miller 1855 Bar at South Shore Terrace Kitchen & Beer Garden. Free beer and root beer will
be served while the supply lasts. With its focus on Lake Michigan, the beer garden is located in
Bay View’s South Shore Park, 2900 S. Shore Drive.
Noah John & Ringing Iron, a classic bluegrass band, will perform at the opening from 4–8 p.m.
The band offers a unique blend of traditional bluegrass, gospel, country, Americana, and folk.
"Milwaukee's lakefront is a national treasure." Said Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele.
"Our continued partnership with Miller Coors helps us offer even more ways for friends, family,
and neighbors to come together to enjoy the lakefront and our County Parks. I look forward to
another great beer garden season!"
Since August 2015, the beachside beer garden has been a popular gathering place for area resi-
dents. From spring through fall, families come to enjoy the view, to have a beverage and snack,
to visit with friends, and, on Wednesdays, to listen to live music. Even on chilly nights, patrons
are kept comfortable near the gas-fired warming pits.
To further enhance the experience, Milwaukee County Parks has made improvements for the
2017 season. Installation of a commercial kitchen means expanded menu selections for pa-
trons, and the addition of keg tables and benches has expanded the seating options.
“We are excited to offer foods that complement the experience of visiting this lakefront attrac-
tion,” said Andrea Wallace, manager of concessions and restaurants for Milwaukee County
Parks. “We will still offer traditional beer-garden snacks, but will take things up a notch by
offering local favorites. The kitchen also lets us better serve the growing number of groups who
book private events when the beer garden is closed to the public.”
Public hours at South Shore Terrace are Wednesday through Friday, from 4–10 p.m.; Saturdays
and Sundays, from 11 a.m. –10 p.m. Visit www.southshoreterrace.com for events and the full
beer and food menus.
The facility is available for private events Mondays and Tuesdays, all day, and for events ending
before 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays.
Supervisor Dimitrijevic addresses the crowd as County Execu-
tive Chris Abele and Parks Director John Dargle look on. Expert keg-tapper Supervisor Steve F. Taylor of District 9
(Oak Creek and Franklin) taps the keg of Leinenkugel beer.

Milwaukee County News Updates
The Kinnickinnic River in Pulaski Park would be set free of its deteriorated concrete channel and widened as part of ongoing flood-control activities along the river and its tributary streams, Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewer-age District officials said.
Concrete removed from 1,900 feet of the river bed would be replaced with rocks to give it a more natural appearance and digging a wider chan-
"This park is going to look new and completely different," County Supervisor Ma-rina Dimitrijevic said. "This is a partnership with MMSD and it will be a net gain for the community."
Dimitrijevic represents the neighborhood on the County Board and she success-fully pushed budget amendments through the board that funded extensive reno-vations of a neglected park pavilion. After being closed for nearly 10 years, the 1930s-era pavilion reopened for use this month.
She expects the MMSD work and investment in new facilities, coupled with county restoration of the 5,000-square-foot pavilion, will provide the catalyst needed for a renaissance of the park and the neighborhood, Dimitrijevic said.
If the County Board and MMSD commission authorize the project, final engineer-ing designs and plans would be done by the end of the year, Elliott said. Work could be scheduled to begin in spring 2018.

MMSD's flood management plan for the river's watershed includes re-moval of more than 6 miles of concrete-lined stream channel.
After removing the concrete stream bed at Pulaski Park, the channel would be excavated to a width of up to 200 feet from S. 16th St. up-stream to the Cleveland Ave. bridge crossing, according to Elliott. From Cleveland Ave. upstream to the park's border at the Union Pacific rail line, the channel would be dug out to a width of no more than 100 feet due to deeper side slopes in that stretch of the river.
County Parks Director John Dargle Jr. is asking the County Board this month to authorize the work under a negotiated agreement that re-quires MMSD to pay all costs.
"This is the beginning of restoring the KK River watershed all the way up
