Let Me GoBy: Christina rossetti
When i Come to the end of the road
and the sun has set for me
i Want no rites in a gloom filled room
Why Cry for a soul set free?
miss me a little, But not for long
and not With your head BoWed loW
rememBer the love that onCe We shared
miss me, But let me go.
for this is a journey We all must take
and eaCh must go alone.it’s all part of the master plan
a step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and siCk at heart
go to the friends We knoW.laugh at all the things We used to do
miss me, But let me go

The Obituary RETIRED SERGEANT FIRST CLASS LOUIS WALTER VANWRIGHT entered into rest on Friday, May 3, 2019, at Augusta University Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia. Mr. VanWright was born in Opelousas, Louisiana to Edmond and Mary (Green) VanWright. Louis Walter VanWright, or affectionately known to family and friends as “LW”, or simply “Poppy,” was born November 14, 1941. He was the sixth of nine children. Mr. VanWright received his early education within the St. Landry Parish School District and was a 1961 graduate of J.S. Clark High School. He also received various certificates and further education while serving in the United States Armed Services. Mr. VanWright was called to defend his country in the Vietnam War. In 1966, he joined the ranks of the U.S. Army. While in the military he furthered his love for cooking and was quite the professional chef. For twenty-four years, he remained in the Army, thirteen of which he served as a Dining Facility Manager until his retirement in 1989. In 1976, Mr. VanWright found his one true love, Ms. Dorothy Jean Jenkins. During the time of their courtship (1978), Sergeant VanWright was deployed to Germany. After almost a year of separation, Dorothy missed him deeply. In 1982, upon returning home, they got married. Louis VanWright was a very talented person. Among his many skills and talents, two stood most dominant, his love for music and cooking. During the period of 1961-1971, Mr. VanWright traveled with various blues musicians, including the late B.B. King, as a lead saxophone player. With cooking, Poppy was master in the kitchen. Some of his children’s fondest memories are of learning how to cook a few of his best dishes. Sergeant VanWright was a member of True Vine Baptist Church, Grand Prairie, Louisiana, where he accepted Christ as a young child and remained a member into his late teens. During his many years in Augusta, he attended St. Alban’s Episcopal Church and Church of Atonement. At Church of Atonement, Mr. VanWright was well known for being kind and for his skills on the grill. On occasion, he visited Kingdom Hall, Strong Tower Baptist Church, and Fairview Missionary Baptist Church. Sergeant VanWright spent the last four years of life relaxing and enjoying himself. A most enjoyable day would be watching Gunsmoke and other westerns or having phone talks with friends, Robert and Clement. By the afternoon, he would be sitting on the porch waiting for his great-grand, Taren, to get off the school bus and split a Coke or Sprite with her. She was always the brightest part of his day. Louis VanWright was devoted to his family and his love never ceased. In the late night of Friday, May 3, 2019, Louis Walter VanWright reached upward and took the Lord’s hand. Sergeant VanWright is survived by: sister, Mary Catherine Breashears, Irving, TX; five children, Janet Rosette, Opelousas, LA, Desiree Sapp, Houston, TX, Tania Sapp, Augusta, GA, Briana Boatwright, South Korea, Brittany Rosette-Jones, Augusta, GA and Malik Rosette-Jones, Augusta, GA; two grandchildren, Tania Danielle Walker, Augusta, GA and Kyla Jenee Barnwell, Houston, TX; great-granddaughter, Taren McKenzie Lee, Augusta, GA; friends; Robert Savoy, Los Angeles, CA and Clement Simeon, Opelousas, LA; devoted god-daughter, Jamika Crawford-Dent, Augusta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by: parents, Edmond and Mary VanWright; sisters, Louilda Richardson and Lou-Marie “Sis” Dukes; brothers, Hilton “Old Man”, Howard “Blake”, Emile, Harold “Cuze”, and Edward “Tatoo” VanWright; and his beloved wife of thirty-two years; Dorothy Jean (Jenkins) VanWright. Sergeant VanWright was an Army Strong soldier, a decorated Vietnam War Veteran, a principle Man of God/Father/Brother/God-Father/Grandfather, and a Great-Grandfather who will be missed greatly.
