But He was known to have a special place in His heart for the poor. In Baghdad, Bahá’u’lláh would give gifts to the disabled, the orphans and the needy. One of the people He met was an eighty year-old woman. She lived in the poorest area of Baghdad. Bahá’u’lláh passed by her home each day as He walked to the coffee house. The old woman would wait for Him. She knew when Bahá’u’lláh would be passing by. He would brighten her day with the light of His love. He would always ask about her health and made sure she was cared for. The old woman was always happy to see Him. No one and nothing in the world made her feel so joyful. Bahá’u’lláh often said, “Because I love this old woman so much, she also loves me.” Throughout Bahá’u’lláh’s time in Baghdad, He showered her with gen- erosity and kindness. Before Bahá’u’lláh left for Constantinople, He arranged an allow- ance for her. He made sure that she would be happy after He left the city.
