A Few Words From Your President The Central States show in Schaumburg last month was well worth the trip from my

perspective. With a couple of ICC Board members on board for the long one-day drive both

ways, we all had decent success in acquiring some of the things on our want lists. We did see

a few Club members walking the bourse as well. Mark August 13-17 on your calendar for the

next big Chicago-area show, the World's Fair of Money, which is put on by the ANA. It always

seems to be a good show, with the U.S. Mint, several world mints, and the usual number of

regional and national dealers on hand.

Last Monday I gave a coin collecting presentation to a fifth grade class at Allisonville

Elementary school, as I have done for the past several years. I thought it went very well. The

ANA sent several handouts for distribution along with a roll of wheat cents, bookmarks,

pencils with ANA information, an old Red Book, and a few other items. From these about 25

packets for the students were produced, and I chipped in an Indian Head cent and an

uncirculated note from a foreign country along with information about the Club. Several raw

and slabbed coins were displayed along with a proof set, a set of statehood quarters, and

some large size U.S. notes. Questions were plentiful, and a few expressed interest in

attending a Club meeting. I hope that we might see them at one of our next meetings.

I was quite surprised last weekend when I used a "golden dollar " to make a purchase at a

convenience store (no, it was NOT for a lottery ticket). The clerk said that was the 14th such

dollar that she had received for a purchase in just 2 or 3 days. While it was not surprising that

she knew what it was right away, I would never have guessed that many would be used by the

general public in that period of time. I doubt it is the beginning of a trend, however.

Although I am unable to attend tonight 's meeting, I hope that you plan to be there. VP Andy

Nahrwold will be running things, so please give him your full attention. And a special "Thank

You" is due to Donn Wray for volunteering to give our educational talk on short notice due to

a guest speaker needing to adjust his schedule. Bring a friend or relative along to the

meeting, and thanks for being an ICC member.

Australian $50 note typo: spelling mistake printed 46 million times

by Naaman Zhou

46 million of Australia?s new $50 notes have been printed with a typo, the Reserve Bank has confirmed.

The ?new and improved? $50 banknote was rolled out in October last year, with a host of new technologies designed to improve accessibility and prevent counterfeiting.

But the yellow note also contains a typo that misspells the word ?responsibility?.

The note features the Indigenous writer and inventor David Unaipon on one side, and Edith Cowan, Australia?s first female member of parliament, on the other ? as it has since 1995.

The RBA has printed ?micro-text? on the note with excerpts of Unaipon?s book, Legendary Tales of the Australian Aborigines, and Cowan?s first speech to parliament.

Issue# 599MAY, 2019

The small error occurred on Cowan?s side, in the text of her speech.

?It is a great responsibilty [sic] to be the only woman here, and I want to emphasise the necessity which exists for other women being here,? it says.

On Thursday, an RBA spokeswoman said the bank was ?aware of it and the spelling will be corrected at the next print run?.

Australia, in 1988, was among the first countries to use polymer banknotes. Compared with paper notes, polymer has increased durability and security and makes it easier to include features to help those who are vision-impaired.

The new $50 introduced a tactile feature of four raised bumps on the banknote to help people identify it. All Australian notes are different sizes and colours for similar reasons.

According to the RBA, the $50 note is the most widely circulated banknote.

Updated $5 and $10 notes have already been released, and a new $20 is scheduled for October this year.

Announcem ent s:Mark Eberhardt asked me to remind everyone that 2019 dues are past due. We are way behind on collecting dues for this year. If you have not paid your 2019 dues please either pay them at this months meeting or mail them in to the club.

It 's not too early to think about December. The ICC will once again be provided a free club table at this years ISNA show. If you are interested in helping to staff the table please see Jim or Andy. It is a very small time commitment.

PLEASE try to have correct change, or at least use smaller bills, to pay for auction items that you win. Especially troublesome are $50's and $100's which

quickly drain the change that is available. That change is personal money, and it will be greatly appreciated by the

changer and auction assistants to make giving change easier and more efficient.
