TABS’ Role in Addressing Truancy in our Community
The TABS Program was designed to enforce the compulsory school attendance laws in the City of Milwaukee. Through the program’s efforts, truant youth are:
Identified & removed youth off of the streets during school hours.
Assessed for a school assignment and pattern of attendance.
Assisted in identifying barriers to consistent attendance.
Monitored to ensure re-entry and improved attendance.
Assisted in locating professionals who can support the family in making the necessary changes.
Program GoalsGoal one: To enforce the compulsory school attendance
laws by intervening with youth who are truant.
Goal Two: Suppress daytime crime committed by out of school youth.
Goal Three: Increase the attendance rates of habitually truant youth picked up through the TABS program.
Goal Four: Reengage out-of-school youth in the educational mainstream.
