A. FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE

M.Sc. Horticulture

Applicants should have BSc. 2nd

Class Honours (Upper division) degree in Horticulture or related fields such as Agriculture and Botany

from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) or any other institution recognized by the University Senate.

A holder of a 2nd

Class Honors (Lower Division) in the relevant fields of study indicated above shall be considered, provided that the

candidate has relevant work experience since graduation

M.Sc. Landscape, Planning& Conservation Applicants should have B.Sc. 2

nd class honours (Upper division) degree in the areas of Horticulture, Ornamental Science/Landscaping,

(b) a holder of at least second class honours, upper division, Bachelor of Science degree in Mechatronic Engineering, Mechanical

Engineering or Electrical and Electronic Engineering from any other institution, which is recognized by the university senate as

being of equivalent -academic status;

(c) a holder of a Bachelor of Science degree of at least second class honours, upper division, in a field which is recognized by the

University Senate as an adequate prerequisite for the Master of Science degree in Mechatronic Engineering;

Postgraduate diploma in Telecommunication engineering

1. A holder of at least 2 class Honours,(Upper Division) B.SC degree in a relevant field from JKUAT or any other institution

recognized by the University Senate.

2. A holder of 2 class honours (Lower Division),B.S.C degree from JKUAT or any other institution which is recognized by the

University Senate as being of equivalent academic status and who in addition must show proof of either two years relevant

experience and professional development or academic advancement through research and publication since graduation with the

Bachelor’s degree.

MSC in Telecommunications Engineering 1. A holder of at least 2 Class Honours,(Upper Division) B.SC degree in relevant field from JKUAT or any other institution

recognized by the University Senate.

2. A holder of at 2 Class Honours,(Lower Division) B.SC degree from JKUAT or any other institution which is recognized

by the University Senate as being of equivalent academic status and who in addition must show proof of either two years

relevant experience and professional development or academic advancement through research and publication since

graduation with the bachelor’s degree or a postgraduate diploma in the relevant field.

PhD, Telecommunications Engineering Holders of master’s degree in a relevant discipline recognized by the University senate.

Master of Science in GIS & Remote Sensing The following shall be eligible for registration for the Master of Science in Geospatial

Information System and Remote Sensing (Master of Science in GIS and Remote Sensing):

Either; (a) A holder of at least an upper second class honors Bachelors degree of JKUAT in

a spatial information based or associated field, OR

(b) A holder of at least a Second Class Honours (Upper Division), Bachelor of Science degree in relevant field, from any

other institution recognized by the University Senate as being of equivalent academic status to (a) OR

(c) A holder of a Bachelor of Science degree of at least Second Class

Honours (Upper Division), in a related field, which is recognized by the University Senate as an adequate pre-

requisite for M.Sc. in GIS and Remote Sensing OR

(d) A holder of a Second Class Honours (Lower Division), Bachelor of

Science degree from JKUAT or any other institution which is recognized by the University Senate as being of

equivalent academic status and who in addition must show proof of either two years relevant experience and

professional development or academic advancement through research and publication since graduation with the

Bachelors degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in the relevant field.

(e) A holder of other qualifications recognized by JKUAT Senate as being equivalent to (a), (b) and (c).

(f) A holder of a JKUAT postgraduate Diploma in the corresponding area of specialization. Such candidate will be

exempted from the course work part of the M.Sc. programme which he/she will already have covered under the

postgraduate diploma programme.

Postgraduate Diploma in GIS & Remote Sensing Entry requirements for M. Sc. in GIS & Remote Sensing shall apply.

Master of Science in Environmental Information Systems (a)A holder of at least an upper second class honors Bachelors degree of JKUAT in a spatial information based or associated field,

relevant experience and professional development or academic advancement through research and publication since graduation with the

Bachelors degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in the relevant field.

(f)A holder of a JKUAT postgraduate Diploma in the corresponding area of specialization. Such candidate will be exempted from the

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

The following shall be eligible for registration for the degree of Master of Science in Electrical Engineering.

1.1 A holder of at least second class honours, Upper Division, Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical and Electronic

Engineering; Electronic and Computer Engineering; or Telecommunication and Information Engineering of Jomo

Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology; OR

1.2 A holder of at least a second class honours, upper division, Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, from

any other institution, which is recognised by the University Senate as being of equivalent academic status to the

programmes in 1.1; OR

1.3 A holder of a Bachelor of Science degree of at least second class honours, upper division, in a related field which is

recognised by the University Senate as an adequate prerequisite for the MSc. in Electrical Engineering; OR

1.4 Holders of a second class honours, lower division, Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering;

Electronic and Computer Engineering; or Telecommunication and Information Engineering of JKUAT, or of any other

institution, which is recognised by the University Senate as being of equivalent academic status, and who in addition

must show proof of either two years relevant experience and professional development or academic advancement

through research and publication since graduation with the bachelors degree; OR

1.5 A holder of other qualifications recognized by JKUAT Senate as being equivalent to .1.1, 1.2 and 1.3; OR

1.6 A holder of a JKUAT postgraduate Diploma in Electrical Engineering in the corresponding area of specialization – such

a candidate will be exempted from the coursework part of the MSc programme, which he/she will already have covered

under the postgraduate diploma programme.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

The following shall be eligible for registration for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering:

2.1 A holder of Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and

Technology; OR

2.2 A holder of a Masters degree or equivalent academic qualification which is recognised by the University Senate as being

equivalent to 2.1 above.

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

3.1 A holder of at least second class honours, Upper Division, Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronic

Engineering; Electronic and Computer Engineering; or Telecommunication and Information Engineering of JKUAT.

3.2 A holder of at least a second class honours, upper division, Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, from

any other institution, which is recognised by the University Senate as being of equivalent academic status to the

programmes in 3.1; or

3.3 A holder of a Bachelor of Science degree of at least second class honours, upper division, in a related field which is

recognised by the University Senate as an adequate prerequisite for the Postgraduate Diploma in Electrical Engineering.

3.4 Holders a second class honours, lower division, Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering;

Electronic and Computer Engineering; or Telecommunication and Information Engineering of JKUAT, or of any other

institution, which is recognised by the University Senate as being of equivalent academic status, and who in addition

must show proof of either two years relevant experience and professional development or academic advancement

through research and publication since graduation with the bachelors degree.

3.5 A holder of other qualifications recognized by JKUAT Senate as being equivalent to 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3.

MSc. In Construction Engineering and Management

For applicants who have a recognized basic degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering and Management or Architecture

or Construction Management or Agricultural Engineering or Biomechanical & Process Engineering or equivalent, the following

requirements shall apply;

(a) a holder of at least second class honors, Upper Division, degree as underlined above, of JKUAT, or

(b) a holder of at least second class honors, Upper Division, degree as underlined above, from any other institution recognized by

JKUAT Senate as being of equivalent academic status, or a holder of at least second class honors, Upper Division, in a field

which is recognized by JKUAT as an adequate prerequisite for the Master of Science in Construction Engineering and

Management, or any other equivalent qualification

(c) a holder of second class honors, Lower Division, degree as underlined above, of JKUAT, or any other institution recognized

by JKUAT Senate as being of equivalent academic status, and who in addition must show proof of either two years relevant

experience and professional development or academic advancement through research, publication and postgraduate certificate

courses related to construction engineering & management since graduation with the Bachelors degree, or a Postgraduate

Diploma in the relevant field.

The course theory will be conducted in Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) center, while practicals/laboratory work will be

conducted at the main campus at juja.

Master of Science in agricultural processing engineering

Bachelors Degree with at least Upper Second class honours in the

following:-

vi) Biochemistry or Molecular Biology

vii) Biological and Agriculture Sciences

viii) Computer Science

ix) Maths and/or Statistics

x) Physical Sciences

Engineering and Health Sciences Sufficient background of biochemistry in

undergraduate and computer sciences and programming.

3 MSc. Applied Statistics

i) Bachelors Degree with at least Upper Second class honours having

studied statistics as a single subject or as a major of 2 subjects studied

at the Degree level at JKUAT or any other university recognized by the

senate OR

ii) A quantitative Degree not necessarily in statistics s with at least Upper

Class from JKUAT or any other University recognized by the senate

but with work experience in Statistics OR

iii) A holder of a Bachelors Degree with Lower Class Honors or its

equivalent maybe eligible for registration provided that the candidate

can produce evidence of proven research ability in an appropriate

branch of statistics.

4 Post Graduate Diploma in Applied

Statistics

i) A Bachelors Degree with at least Lower Class Honours having studied

Statistics as a single subject or as a major of two subjects studied at the

Degree level at JKUAT or any other University recognized by the

Senate OR

ii) A holder of a quantitative Degree not necessarily in Statistics with at

least Lower Second Class Honours from JKUAT or any other

University recognized by the Seante but with relevant work experience

in Statistics.
