About our academic scholarship applications
The focus at Alma Mater is to develop well-rounded young men and women who are specifically
groomed to excel at secondary and tertiary education level. The Cambridge International
Examinations were created for this exact purpose. Students can now also complete their A- levels at
Alma Mater, which greatly benefits students who want to pursue careers in highly specialised fields
such as medicine. We provide a safe, friendly and disciplined learning environment in which we
build social and academic skills and develop self-confident students.
Our curriculum is recognised internationally by the best universities in the world. Alma Mater's
excellent academic standards and highly committed staff serve to expedite our goal for students to
attain to their full potential and fulfill all their aspirations.
Over the past 4 years we’ve awarded scholarships to over 150 students.
Alma Mater International School award scholarships to Grade 7, 8, 9, 10, AS- and A- level students.
Alma Mater Scholarship students can become part of our international tertiary scholarship
programme, providing them with the opportunity to choose any degree course of study in Canada,
USA, UK and China.
Upon application, the following will be assessed and considered:
• compulsory online entrance assessment,
• academic achievements,
• sport achievements,
• leadership roles and community service involvement
Level of Scholarships for 2018
Grade 7 and 8 (Junior High): Range between R 4 000.00 and R 18 200.00 per annum
Grade 9 and 10 (IGCSE):
Range between R 5 506.00 and R 19 200.00 per annum
AS Level and A Level:
Range between R 5 506.00 and R 20 400.00 per annum
Special Conditions: The Alma Mater International School Board of Directors’ decisions on scholarships are final and non-negotiable. Scholarships are reviewed on an annual basis and will be re-awarded annually subject to the academic performance; behavioural attitude towards learning and overall behaviour and participation at school of all the recipients.
Scholarships cannot be transferred to another student/sibling and is granted subject to the acceptance of the conditions as listed below:

How to choose your subjects
1. The following age groups are recommended: • Cambridge IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) for 14 -16
years. • Cambridge AS Level (Advanced Subsidiary Level) and A Level (Advanced Level) for
16 -19 years.
2. Ensure that your subject choices adhere to the Universities South Africa requirements for exemption on page 4 if you want to go to university.
3. Choose subjects from the correct groups on page 4 to ensure that you will be able to go to
university. 4. Afrikaans, English First Language and Mathematics (either Extended or Core) are
compulsory subjects up to the end of IGCSE. Physics and Chemistry are highly recommended.
5. If a student wants to continue with a subject on AS-Level a C-symbol on the IGCSE
Extended level is the minimum requirement. 6. Afrikaans 2nd Language can be written off at the end of Grade 10 only if an A or B symbol is
achieved AND at least a B symbol for IGCSE English. 7. Core and extended options are available at IGCSE level in Mathematics only. Please note –
an IGCSE subject on Core cannot be taken on AS Level. 8. Personal Growth Programme (PGP) is a compulsory course additional to the minimum
subject requirements per grade.

Development Fund:
This annual fee is applied towards the development and maintenance of the school property and facilities.
Day School and Boarding:
1. The School Registration fee is a once off fee of R3 000.00 (day school) and the once off enrolment fee for
boarding students is R 8 500.00. This fee is payable on registration and non-refundable. There is no discount
on Registration Fees.
2. School fees are payable by the 7th of each month.
3. For registering 3 (or more) children: 10% discount on the amount payable from the third child onwards.
Discount will not apply where the child has been granted a scholarship.
4. Discount on the full payment of Annual School and Boarding Fees: • Before 30 November 2018, 6.5% discount • Before 31 December 2018, 4,5% discount
• On/before the 1st day of school 2018, 2.5% discount *Discount will not apply where the child has been granted an academic scholarship
5. Full Time Alma Mater High and Primary School students do not pay for extra lessons.
6. Excluded from school fees are transport, stationery, study guides, school uniforms, textbooks, exercise
books, camps, excursions, tours, Matric Farewell and Valentine’s Ball.
7. Exam fees are only for Grades 7, 10, 11 and 12. Exam fees are subject to prevailing exchange rates (GBP £)
at the time of payment and no discount is applicable on exam fees.
8. School fees should be paid timeously. Any Fees in arrears will be charged interest at the prevailing prime
overdraft rate + 2,5%.
9. Students who have been granted scholarships and/or discounts and are in arrears as specified in clause 9,
will forfeit their scholarship and/or discount and the full amount of School fees as specified in the schedule
will become due and payable plus interest.
10. School Sport: School Fees do not cover for SACSSA PARTICIPATION FEE. However, SACSSA AFFILIATION FEES
will be paid by Alma Mater. A transport fee will be charged when a student makes use of school transport to
sport events.
Boarding only:
1. Weekly boarding will allow a student to board for up to four nights a week (Monday to Thursday only)
2. Termly/Weekly boarding fees and charges for additional expenses are reviewed annually.
3. Boarding fees include overnight accommodation, meals, linen and laundry services for agreed nights.
4. Day fees cover normal curriculum tuition, school extra-curricular activities, and extra academic assistance.
5. Holiday school and Easter holiday fees are not included in the termly or weekly boarding fees.
Additional Expenses:
1. Voluntary activities are organised by various members of staff and charges are made per the activity e.g.
concerts, theatre trips and outdoor expeditions
2. Personal effects insurance R 187.00 per month *price subject to change
3. Medical Insurance Cover ±R 1 800.00 per month (worldwide cover on a comprehensive Gold Plan)
4. Prices are subject to individual applications and exchange rates; application can be made through Alma
Mater International School
5. Unavoidable Expenses (Items such as those listed below are invoiced on the termly invoice)
