STOP the Sunset Hills Land Grab!As you may be aware, the Novus Development Company has proposed a $164 million retail

But you may not be aware of the extreme actions Novus is taking in order to secure the area around the proposed development!

■ Novus wants the City of Sunset Hills to grant it eminent domain – effectively forcing existing businesses and homeowners to sell their property.

■ Some residents are senior citizens on fixed incomes who, if forced to sell, won’t be able to afford comparable residences elsewhere.

It’s wrong! Cities should not use their power of eminent domain just to help a private developer make money.

There are other disturbing details in the Novus proposal:

■ Novus wants the City to issue tax increment financing bonds (TIF) for more than one-quarter of the project’s overall cost – $42 million.

■ Novus is asking the citizens of Sunset Hills to assume too much of the cost and risk of this development.
