ST. JOSEPH’S PAGE TWO

My Dear Parish Family, On New Year’s Day, Pope Francis began by praying the world would demonstrate a marked increase in solidarity and welcome for migrants and refugees. “Let’s not extinguish the hope in their hearts; let’s not suffocate their hopes for peace,” the Pope said before reciting the Angelus with the crowd gathered in St. Pe-ter’s Square. Throughout the world and at home the majority of people want just that – peace. As Americans and especially as Christians we all should commit ourselves to welcoming the stranger at our door. The political climate these days is in flux and many of our current policies rail against the message of Christ. I pray we search our hearts and align them with Jesus (see Matthew 25:34-46). I hope that those who took home a copy of Perfectly Yourself by Matthew Kelly at Christmas this year have taken the opportunity to start reading it. If you would like to share your thoughts on the book and the insights it offers, I will be leading a discussion next Saturday morning, Jan 27 after the 8am Mass. We will meet in the Parish Ministry Center (former convent bldg). Please pray for Fr. Jerome as he experiences a Pilgrimage to the Holy Land with a number of priests from our diocese this week and into next. As you have heard me say so many times before, “Once you have been to the holy sites in Israel on pilgrimage, you will never pray or experience scripture in the same way. It changes one’s life.” Please pray for them, that their hearts be open to all God offers them and that they return safely to their flocks here in the Diocese of Trenton. God bless you all. Father Scott

Attention Engaged Couples: 2018 St. Joseph’s/ St. Gertrude’s Mandatory Wedding Liturgy & Music Planning Workshop

Are you getting married at St. Joseph’s or St. Gertrude Church in 2018? 2019? All engaged couples planning to marry at either church are required to attend a mandatory Wedding Workshop prior to finalizing their wedding plans. Our next workshop is being held on Sunday, February 4, 2018 from 2:30-3:30pm in the church. Please note that those couples who have booked their wedding for the year 2018 SHOULD attend this upcoming session to ensure that their preparation process is finalized.

The purpose of the workshop is to review the liturgical requirements for your mar-riage. One of the main focal points of the workshop will revolve around the music selections and musician options available to you through our growing music min-istry. Our goal for the workshop is to review the church/diocesan procedures & requirements, help you identify the options available, and finalize some of your music selections for your upcoming wedding.

We look forward to working with our special engaged couples as they get ready to receive the sacrament of Matri-mony. Please contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions or to RSVP.

Healing the Wounds of Abortion

The psychological and spiritual wounds of abortion can be sharp, deep and crippling. You may feel a deep numbness and may not be able to name the pain or recognize any of the symptoms. It can also have a devastating impact on the father or grandparents of the aborted child and friend/s of the mother. You do not have to continue to hide in shame and fear. Rachel’s Vineyard’s Retreat is a chance to focus on this painful time in your life through a supportive non-judgmental process, in an atmosphere of confidentiality, understanding, and compassion. It is designed to help both wom-en and men experience the mer-cy and compassion of God. If you have suffered through an abortion and have isolated your-self from healing and for-giveness, you might consider attending one our retreat week-ends. For more information, contact Judy Warenkiewicz at 732-536-6871. All inquiries are strictly confidential.

MENSAJE DEL PARROCO

Querida familia parroquial,

Padre Scott
