DAY

1Monday, Oct. 2 Overnight Flight to Brussels, Belgium

DAY

2Tuesday, Oct. 3 Arrive Brussels and Transfer to the Ship in Ostend

Arrive in Brussels and coach transfer to Ostend. Board the ship starting at 6 p.m. After settling into your cabin, join the Captain and crew for a Welcome Cocktail Party followed by dinner.

DAY

3Wednesday, Oct. 4 Arrive Bruges, City Exploration

This morning, enjoy the scenery while cruising to Bruges and arriving late morning. After lunch, experience this picturesque city on a field trip. Founded around the ninth century C.E., Bruges has been an important cultural center in northern Europe and of strategic importance in times of war. The Germans used the port in World War I for their U-boats. The historic city center is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and the city is renowned for fine lace and fine arts, including one of Michelangelo's masterpieces, a marble Madonna of Bruges in the Church of Our Lady. Later, enjoy a trip along the town's canals on small motor boats. Enjoy a free evening after dinner.

DAY

4Thursday, Oct. 5 Bruges-Kortrijk, CLE Class, City of Ghent

This morning is the first of our CLE courses on board the ship. For those not participating, enjoy free time. After lunch, enjoy an expert-led exploration of the historic city of Ghent, often referred to as “Belgium’s Best-Kept Secret” — small enough to feel cozy but big enough to stay vibrant. It’s the capital and largest

city of the East Flanders province. Much of the city's medieval architecture remains intact and its center is the largest car-free area in Belgium. After dinner on the ship, enjoy an evening of music and dancing aboard the ship.

DAY

5Friday, Oct. 6 Kortrijk, Tyne Cot Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery, Ypres

This morning, begin a full-day field trip at the Tyne Cot Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery and Memorial to the Missing, the largest for Commonwealth forces in the world. Visit the Passchendaele Museum, located in Zonnebeke Castle, which offers an overview of the deadly battle of 1917. An underground tunnel gives an idea of what the life of a British soldier was like during that period. After lunch, head for Ypres via Canada Corner, the site of the first Gas Attacks of WW1, and Essex Farm Cemetery, where John McCrae wrote the poem, “In Flanders Fields.” Visit the In Flanders Fields Museum, which commemorates more than 600,000 combatants who died in these lands. After a short break in town, attend the Last Post Ceremony — the call of the bugle played particularly in the British Army to mark the end of the day's work. Return to the ship for dinner.

DAY

6Saturday, Oct. 7 Comines, Poperinge, Military Cemetery at Lijssenthoek

After breakfast, coach to Poperinge, stopping en route at Messines Ridge, the site of the highly successful British Offensive in 1917. With an expert, explore Poperinge — one of only two towns in Belgium not occupied by the Germans during World War I. Continue on to the military cemetery at Lijssenthoek. Return to the ship in Kortrijk for lunch and free time. Following dinner, tonight’s entertainment will be provided by the crew.

DAY

7Sunday, Oct. 8 Arras-Carriere Wellington

Experience Arras on a field trip, including the Carrière Wellington, an enormous underground network of tunnels used by British Empire and Commonwealth forces during World War I. After lunch, sail to Lille and tonight — the last aboard the ship — enjoy a gala evening and special dinner hosted by the Captain.

DAY

8Monday, Oct. 9 Lille-Reims, Somme Cemetery and Memorial

After breakfast, disembark in Lille and coach to the Somme American Cemetery and the site where United States troops assisted the British in breaking the Hindenburg Line in 1918. The actions of these men are often forgotten because

they did not fight under Gen. Pershing, but they won more Medals of Honor than any other United States Corps. Participate in a solemn wreath-laying ceremony. Late afternoon, check into the hotel in Reims. Tonight’s dinner is on your own.

DAY

9Tuesday, Oct. 10 Meuse Argonne American Battlefields

After breakfast, experience the Meuse Argonne American Battlefields — the biggest and most costly of U.S. battles in WWI with over 26,000 Americans dead. Visit the sites of battles where Patton, Bradley, MacArthur and many other famous U.S. politicians and soldiers fought. Also visit Montfaucon, the Lost Battalion and Sergeant Alvin C. York Battles, finishing at the ABMC Cemetery at Romagne to pay respect to 100,000 Americans who died in WWI.

DAY

10Wednesday, Oct. 11 Reims Cathedral, Chateau Thierry, Belleau Wood

This morning we will visit the Reims Cathedral, Notre-Dame de Reims (Our Lady of Reims), the seat of the Archdiocese of Reims where the kings of France were crowned. Then experience Chateau-Thierry, where American troops — the American Expeditionary Force under Gen. John “Black Jack” Pershing — engaged in one of their first battles. See the Battle of the Marne monument and visit the cemetery at Belleau Wood. Coach to Paris and check in at the hotel.

DAY

11Thursday, Oct. 12 CLE Class, Free Time

We will offer our second CLE Class at the hotel. For those not participating in the class, you will have free time to explore Paris. After lunch on your own, enjoy a free afternoon. Tonight, enjoy a special Farewell Dinner.
