Detailed Description
6th edition of International conference on Wireless Networks and Embedded Systems (WECON 2018) was conducted at Chitkara University, Punjab campus on 16th and 17th November, 2018. WECON 2018, which was technically sponsored by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE conference no. 44297) and
supported by Applied Materials, NXP Semiconductors, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Heriot Watt University (Malaysia) & Indian Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) drew a participation of about 200 delegates.
Delegates of WECON 2018
Keynote talks by Mr. Sanjay Gupta, Country Head, NXP Semiconductors, India and Mr. Ashwini Aggarwal, Director, Government Affairs, Applied Materials were the main highlights of the inaugural event.
Dr. Madhu Chitkara – Vice Chancellor, Chitkara University, Punjab and Dr. Archana Mantri - General Chair, WECON 2018 felicitating Mr. Sanjay Gupta – VP and Country Head, NXP Semiconductors India
8
Inaugural was also graced by many other distinguished guests like Prof. Dr. M.L. Dennis Wong - Deputy Pro Vost, Harriot Watt University, Malayasia, Dr. Madhu Chitkara - Vice Chancellor, Chitkara University, Prof. Dr. Abdul Q. Ansari - Vice Chair, IEEE Delhi Section, Prof. Dr. Subrata Mukhopadhayay - Secretary, IEEE Delhi Section, Prof. Jaspreet Dhanoa - Treasurer, IEEE Delhi Section, Dr.
Archana Mantri - Pro Vice Chancellor, Chitkara University, Punjab, Dr. H S Jatana and Mr. Rajesh Srivastava from Semiconductor Complex Limited, Mohali, Mr. Hitesh Garg - Site Lead (Bangalore), NXP Semiconductors, Mr. Bedanta Choudhary - NXP Semiconductors and Dr. Jagdish Raheja from CEERI Pilani.
Distinguished dignitaries of WECON 2018
Mr. Sanjay Gupta in his keynote address on the topic Autonomous Vehicles highlighted on the changing paradigms of technological aspects in upcoming generation of vehicles. He insisted on the need of being extremely innovative to keep up the pace with fast changing technological trends and need for far more encroachment of technology in vehicles than ever in past.
Dr. Sanjay Gupta delivering his inaugural address Mr. Ashwini Aggarwal during his keynote talk
Mr. Ashwini Aggarwal talked about semiconductor industry in India and its evolution. He emphasized the need for solving India specific problems using semiconductor technologies available at our disposal.
9
A brochure highlighting the tasks being undertaken by VLSI Center of Excellence established at Chitkara University under the leadership of Dr. Rajnish Sharma (Dean, Research) was also released by dignitaries during the inauguration ceremony.
Unveiling of VLSI CoE brochure
Dr. M.L. Dennis Wong - Deputy Pro Vost, Heriot Watt University, Malaysia delivered an invited talk on Combinational Logic Optimization. He discussed a relatively new approach to combinational circuit optimization based on a low multi-plicative complexity heuristic. The purpose of the optimization heuristic is to produce low gate count circuit to enable complex transformation to fit in devices that operate in ultra-constrained environments.
Felicitation of Dr. M.L. Dennis Wong
10
Day two of the conference began with two wonderful and comprehensive tutorials. Mr. H S Jatana from Semiconductor Complex Limited, Mohali delivered a tutorial on Analog Chip Design & Mr. Vivek Tripathi from STMicroelectronics delivered a tutorial on Data Converters. Both tutorials attracted interest of a large number of delegates and lead to good follow-up discussions.
