Placement in Core Classes
Placement in Core Classes• The Guidance Counselor, Ms. Brown, schedules students in core courses (Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies) based on the Accelerated Course Matrix (ACM). The ACM is provided to all schools by the district. The report takes into account performance for the previous 2 years in the following areas:

Course Approval

Electives
• In addition to the five academic courses, students will have two elective course options. If you select PE, you will be placed in ONE other elective course. If you would like to select TWO general electives courses, you MUST select the “Waive PE” option and complete the attached waiver.

Performing Arts Elective: Art
Art - Students explore media and techniques used to create a variety of 2-D artworks through developing skills in drawing, painting, printmaking, and collage. This course incorporates hands-on activities and consumption of art materials. Students explore media and techniques used to create a variety of 2-D artworks through developing skills in drawing, painting, printmaking, and collage. Students practice, sketch, and manipulate the structural elements of art.
The options for Art are:
Art 1 – Beginning Art
Art 2 – Intermediate Art (Art 1 is a pre-requisite)
GiftedStudies
• The course provides students with experiences which provide enrichment, in-depth learning, and/or accelerated study
• Differentiated learning opportunities
Academic Elective: PLTW
Project Lead The Way – focuses on aerospace/engineering technology with certifications and standards. Students use laboratory investigation, scientific research, and problem solving to test new technologies and find real world solutions.
Semester 1 – Students apply the concepts of physics, chemistry and nanotechnology to STEM activities and projects.
Semester 2 – Students play the role of medical detectives as they analyze genetic testing results to diagnose disease and study DNA.

• Students will be provided “tentative” schedules during the Meet the Teacher
• Students will report to their Homeroom Classes for Meet the Teacher
• Classes will be posted at 2:50pm on campus

• Working document-Every child has one• If you are unable to physically attend the meeting, arrangements can
be made to hold the meeting virtually • This will alleviate the need for families to be inconvenienced to come back to
campus • All EPs are being amended at this time to reflect our service and Ms. Cannon
will be reaching out to each of you within the first two weeks of school.
