Setting up meetings to view homes, searching online databas- es and wondering if pictures are true to life can have the pressure building. However, all that pres- sure and work will fade away with the second annual statewide Flori- da Open House Weekend March 26 and 27, according to Angela Campbell, executive director of the Navarre Area Board of Realtors. “It’s a home shopper’s dream,” Campbell said. “For the serious buyer, the opportunity to tour dozens of homes in one week- end is a real time saver. … It’s an opportunity for them to tour avail- able properties in a‘no pressure’ environment.” Last year April 10 – 11 was declared Florida Open House because the April 30 deadline for a federal homebuyer tax credit was coming up. As a result Flori- da Realtors decided to nudge potential home buyers in the right direction, according to Marla Mar- tin, communications manager for Florida Realtors. “It was a reminder and an opportunity to buy in time to get the federal tax credit. We want- ed to tell buyers out there that, ‘hey, this is about to end and now is the time to buy,’”Martin said. With more than 15,000 open houses, it was dubbed a huge success. “We are anticipating it to be as successful or even more so this year,”Martin said.“This is the largest open house event in the nation.” From the Panhandle to Key West, more than 50,000 blue bal- loons with the Realtor white“R” will be bouncing above mailbox- es signaling that someone’s dream home is open for perspective buy- ers this weekend, according to Campbell. Some of those balloons will be flying in our backyard. “Clients will be opening their homes all across the Navarre area,” Campbell said. “The timing could- n’t be better for buyers. Interest rates are low. There’s a supply of homes at all price points.” This weekend is also an ideal point of the year since spring time has been historically the best home selling season, according Campbell and Mike Simpson, an agent with Coldwell Banker Unit- ed Realtors. “Right now you have a lot of tran- sition, especially the military look- ing for their summer moves. You also have a lot of vacation people look- ing into investment properties and for second homes,” Simpson said. Regardless of the timing Mar- tin said open houses give poten- tial buyers a chance to speak to realtors about all the steps of home buying. “There is never, not a good home buying season in Florida because of the weather. This [weekend] is a good opportuni- ty to speak with realtors. People simply don’t know what they don’t know. Visiting an open house is a great way to learn more about that process,”Martin said. The weekend is also the cul- mination of the recently declared “Welcome Home Week” by Gov. Rick Scott, which is March 21 through 27. According to a Flori- da Realtors’press release, “In rec- ognizing March 21-27 as Wel- come Home Week, Gov. Scott and the Cabinet acknowledge the important role of Florida Real- tors and its 115,000 members in promoting the benefits of home- ownership as they work with existing and future Florida resi- dents on a daily basis.” Campbell said she recognizes the benefits of this weekend because realtors are able to guide buyers or sellers through one of the largest purchases they’ll make. “Buying or selling a home is one of the biggest, most compli- cated decisions that an individ- ual, couple or family will ever make. It’s a major investment of money, time, effort and emotions. Taking steps to safeguard that investment by using a Florida Realtor® – a trained profession- al who voluntarily agrees to act under a Code of Ethics – simply makes sense,”Campbell said.
