It’s June, and you know what
that means—the Encore Communi-ties Father’s Day Car Show & BBQ ! We look forward to this day for many reasons—it’s a great family event, with special activities for kids, live music, sno-cones, popcorn, burgers & dogs & pulled pork, and the CARS! And it’s free! There are so many amazing automobiles here—and for letting us enjoy their beautiful and lovingly cared for vehicles, the first 100 entries receive a dash plaque and there are trophies for top groups.
This year’s car show is Saturday, June 18th from 11:00am to 2:00pm, and is open to all makes and models of cars and trucks. The campus will be full of cars on display, so parking for guests will be on Schold Place and in the area across the street, with special places close to the festivi-ties for those with disabled placards.
Just think of all that is invested in one of those classic beauties—the amount of time, money and elbow grease that goes into restoring and maintaining a vintage ride can be astronomical. When those whitewall tires come rolling onto our campus it is evident that they are carrying the results of a labor of love.
Extra Tender Loving Care is required to keep an automobile running well
and looking good in its “old age.” From the sounds of this little essay, the author needs to start doing the same for her body.
“If My Body Were a Car…” If my body were a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model. I’ve got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish, and my paint job is getting a little dull…
But that’s not the worst of it. My headlights are out of focus and it’s especially hard to see things up close.
My traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide and skid and
bump into things even in the best of weather. My whitewalls are stained
with varicose veins. It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed.
My fuel rate burns inefficiently. But here’s the worst of it.
Whenever I sneeze, cough or laugh, either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires.
~Linda S. Amstutz
At Encore Communities we are known for Tender Loving Care, the kind that helps to keep body and soul running well and looking good into one’s later years. We love our residents & we think it shows. As you wander through the campus enjoying the classic cars, keep an eye out for our “classics” and notice how good they look—they’ve been keeping up their maintenance & we’re here to help!

NOT ALL HEROS WEAR CAPES
Ours wear Scrubs!
We celebrated Nurses’ Week with a fabulous BBQ for all the nursing staff from all four
facilities. Besides a really clever cake and great food, it looks like all the participants got
into the spirit of the event and had some fun, as well. We appreciate the dedication and
extra tender loving care that is exhibited by all our nursing staff. While we rarely see
them leaping tall buildings in a single bound, we do see them go the extra mile time after
time to ensure that your loved ones get the care they need in super-hero style!

Reduce your Stress—Tips from the Experts Being aware and being safe are two factors that
contribute to healthy aging. There are many resources
that strive to educate and inform; often what they
present is just common sense or the simplest
approach—which, in this day of technology and
amazing new discoveries, is often overlooked. Here are
a few tips from the experts that could make your life
easier—and reduce some of your stress and keep you
healthier and happier.
Be assertive—remember that you have ac-complished a lot in your life; use those same skills to change health habits to the good; re-member your worth and make the extra effort to take better care of yourself physically, which will make you feel better mentally!
Exercise—a painful topic. Face it, it will be painful if you exercise, but you will have discomfort if you don’t—and if you move well and move often, you will have less pain, more stamina, better balance, and you’ll be safer.
Be prepared. Make the list of emergency num-bers—services and family. Have a “to-go” kit ready with basic necessities in case of an emergency. Keep important papers and emer-gency cash in a fireproof box and keep the key with the to-go bag. Keep water and three days of non-perishable food (easy open). Shred per-sonal documents before disposing of them. Now you don’t have to think about the what-ifs.
Safety in your home is simple. Use night lights. Clear the path of rugs, furniture or cords. Clean the lint from your dryer and the crumbs from your toaster—the three most common things to go up in flames are battery-charged appliances, paper and cloth towels, and dryer lint. Use oven mitts, even with the microwave. Put utensils in the dishwasher sharp end down. And know your neighbors. It’s the oldest safety system known—ask your neighbors to keep an eye out for you, and you do the same for them. Now you’re safe & happy!
