Windows and pillars
At some point it is inevitable that you will need to fix to
walls with windows or returns.
![Page 6: 6708 l2 222_presentation_5](https://reader031.fdocuments.in/reader031/viewer/2022030315/58828bef1a28abca6d8b55cf/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)

Attached piers
Piers built into the middle of a wall must be made to run
parallel to the back walls and the returns should be made
square.
This can be done by using a tape measure and square
when marking out the chalk line to the back wall.
Marking out can be done on the floor and ceiling, and to
fixed boards on the back wall once they are in place.

Attached piers
When fixing, the boards to the back wall should be fixed
first.
The square can be used against the back wall once those
boards are in place.

Internal angles
By using a square, the reveal
can be set from the plumb
board. This will ensure a
prefect right angle.

on the external angles

Windows
When setting out a window wall, you should set the boards
from the reveals.
Allow some extra for an overhang when measuring to allow
for a neat external angle joint.

External angles
It is recommended that you have two tapered edges on the
external angle in order to form a neater finish.
If not possible, a tapered/good edge should be placed over
the square/cut edge.

Windows
If you have to cut a board for under or above the window, ensure that you keep one tapered edge for joining.
The reveal boards should be placed with the taper edge to the external angle and the cut to the window frame.
Once all of the boards have been cut, you can fix them just the
same as you would a straight wall.
A continuous band of adhesive must be placed around the
opening in order to prevent fire and air from getting behind.
