Faith Formation / Religious Ed

“There are two ways of spreading light – to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.”

—Edith Wharton, Vesalius in Zante

The 8th Annual Syracuse Catholic Women’s

Conference is coming on October 28th at the

Oncenter in Syracuse. A day out with women featuring internationally known

speakers including: Fr. Michael E. Gaitley, MIC; Sr. Ignatia Henneberry, OSF; and Michael Dopp. The theme for this year’s Conference is “In Search of a

Servant’s Heart” in keeping with the messages of Our Lady at Fatima 100 years ago!

There will be priests available to hear Confessions and Holy Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Cunningham, a

seated plated lunch and much more!

Returning this year is the popular “TABLE 4 TEN” registration for groups that would like to sit together at

lunch. If St. Francis has 10 people interested; our parish will sponsor this event - call Katherine at the SFX

Rectory (315) 673-2531 before August 31st.

Registration will be $70 at the door (if space allows). We are expecting a sold-out conference!

Register early to secure your seat. For more information or to register online, please visit

ENDOW

(Educating on the Nature and Dignity Of Women)

Endow’s Letter to Women course is an enriching and eye opening way to learn what the church really thinks about women and their role in the world today. This group study is foundational to Endow and is based on

Pope John Paul II’s 1995 letter to all women of the world. It reaffirms the dignity of human persons as it

upholds the special place women occupy in the family, the Church, and the world.

When: September 28, 2017 – meets consecutive Thursdays for 6-8 weeks Time: 7pm Location: Church Hall

To register for this course or for more information, please call Joanne Hettinger at (315) 726-2121.

August 13, 2017 19th Sunday in Ordinary

Time “O you of little faith, why did you

doubt?” —Matthew 14:31

Today’s readings remind us that God speaks to us and beckons us in

so many unexpected and surprising ways. Some of us may respond better to an almost indistinguishable whisper, while others need a wakeup call that requires great courage on our part — like Peter’s call to walk on water. Hearing, seeing, giving our full assent to what we experience, may not be easy. But the message has been consistent throughout history: God continues to invite us.

Penitential Act Lord Jesus, you appeared to your disciples on the stormy sea: Lord, have mercy. Christ Jesus, you commanded Peter to walk on the water: Christ, have mercy. Lord Jesus, you call us to have the courage to come to you: Lord, have mercy.

Scripture Reading 1 Kings 19:9a, 11-13a God is revealed in the tiny, whispering sound. Psalm 85 Lord, let us see your kindness. Romans 9:1-5 Paul affirms God’s love for the Jews. Matthew 14:22-33 Jesus calls Peter to walk on the water.

Please help make this a success! Time slots for September are available. See the parish website to sign up or call Vanessa Millet at (315) 515-8280.

Question of the Week

For Adults: When have you doubted the loving care of God for you as the apostles did in the boat? For Children: How do you know that Jesus is with you at all times?
