EQUIPMENT & CLOTHINGAll equipment required throughout the coursewill be provided by SpanSet Ltd.Candidates should provide their owncomfortable clothing and safety footwear, withprovision made for inclement weatherconditions, i.e. fleeces, waterproofs, windproof,etc.

LEVELS OF QUALIFICATIONThere are three levels of qualification for ropeaccess technicians as follows:

Level 1 A rope access technician who is able to perform alimited range of rope access tasks under thesupervision of an IRATA level 3 rope accesstechnician. NOTE: While in the process of beingtrained to level 1, a person should be considered tobe a trainee.

Level 2A rope access technician who is capable of riggingworking ropes, undertaking rescues and performingrope access tasks under the supervision of an IRATAlevel 3 rope access technician.

Level 3 A rope access technician who is capable of sitesupervision for rope access work projects; is able todemonstrate the skills and knowledge required oflevels 1, 2 and 3; is conversant with relevant worktechniques and legislation; has a comprehensiveknowledge of advanced rescue techniques; holds acurrent first aid certificate and has knowledge ofthe IRATA certification scheme.

Independent IRATA assessment.

LEVEL 1ROPE ACCESSTECHNICIAN

Capable of performing a range of activitiesunder the supervision of a level 3.

Responsible for own personal rope accessequipment

Minimum of 12 months and 1000 hoursof work experience in a variety of tasks

as a level 1 rope access technician.Physically and medically fit.

5-day training course in ropeaccess, rigging and rescue.

Independent IRATA assessment.

LEVEL 2ROPE ACCESSTECHNICIAN

Capable of rigging ropes and undertakingrescues, including hauling, under thesupervision of a level 3 rope access

technician.Minimum of 12 months and 1000

hours of work experience as a level2 rope access technician.

Physically and medically fit.Appropriate first aid certificate.

Written recommendations from an IRATAmember company or assessor

5-day training course in advance ropeaccess techniques, rescue, equipment

examination & legislation.Independent IRATA assessment.

LEVEL 3ROPE ACCESSTECHNICIAN

(SUPERVISOR)

Capable of site supervision for ropeaccess work projects.

Comprehensive knowledge of advancedrescue techniques.

Conversant with relevant worktechniques and legislation.

Independent IRATA re-assessment every three years at all levels, following a minimum of four days of refresher training.

Technicians not engaged in rope access work for six months or more should attend refresher training.
