The IT market is changing radically, with users facing new challenges require a much higher level of performance from their infrastructures; and our extended vendor portfolio will prove to be of benefit to the channel,” explains Ghalib. “We are continuously looking for opportunities to expand our vendor portfolio in order to provide our partners with all the solutions under one roof.”

2014 has been a good year for distributor so far, says Ghalib. “We have managed to sail smoothly through the first half but for the remaining year we plan to increase focus on highlighting the upcoming new technologies but also to expand our footprint in the region.”

The public cloud services market in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is on pace to grow 21 percent in 2014 to total $747 million, up from an estimated $616 million in 2013, according to Gartner, Inc. Software as a service (SaaS), the largest single segment of the cloud services market in MENA, is expected to grow 28 percent in 2014 to $166 million.

Gartner predicts that from 2014 through 2018, $5.5 billion will be spent on cloud services in MENA region, $1.7 billion of which will be spent on business process as a service (BPaaS).

“The Middle East and North Africa region has demonstrated steady growth, and we predict

continued growth through 2018,” said Ed Anderson, research vice president at Gartner. “Annual growth in public cloud services will average 21.5 percent from 2014 through 2018.”

SaaS is expected to grow from $130 million in 2013 to $432 million in 2018. IaaS is expected to grow from $61 million in 2013 to $161 million in 2018.

While growth in cloud services is high across all segments, growth in BPaaS will be lowest growth segment, expected to grow 8.2 percent over a 5-year period through 2018. Platform as a service (PaaS) is expected to grow from $35 million in 2013 to $112 million in 2018 as organization

Polycom rolls out video-enabled cartsPolycom has announced the availability of the Polycom RealPresence Utility Cart 500 and the Polycom RealPresence EduCart 500 in the UAE - two new video-enabled solutions, designed specifically for use in the enterprise and education sectors.

These packaged solutions that are being showcased at Gitex Technology Week 2014, are standalone units, which allow users to easily bring high-definition room-based video conferencing and content sharing to a variety of locations beyond a dedicated conference room.

The units have been designed to provide an affordable, mobile solution for customers looking to implement video collaboration in any available space of their choice across their business or education environment. In addition, the carts can be customised with peripherals such as HD document cameras or projectors, for use in detailed inspections and presentations.

“More organisations and industries now demand to use video collaboration outside the conference room and have it embedded into their operational and business processes,” said Ramy Alam, Regional Sales Director, Gulf, Polycom. “Gitex Technology Week serves as the best platform to demonstrate these new video and content collaboration solutions that are engineered to create a dynamic collaborative workplace, which can cater to the needs of changing business environments,” he added.

Among the cart’s standard features is a single 27-inch or dual 22-inch 1080p full HD LED backlit monitors, mounting points for wireless access, and an access panel that includes two USB ports, HDMI, VGA and audio from codec, for multiple peripheral connectivity. The battery module gives up to five hours of operation, and is available in 110 or 230 volt AC versions. For easy maneuverability and durability, the RealPresence Utility Cart 500 also comes fitted with sturdy stainless steel handles, and five casters for enhanced stability.“

ESET staff have been in a buoyant mood at their animated and user-focused stand upon their 10-year GITEX Technology Week anniversary.

“GITEX is a fantastic platform that helps us plan for the year ahead,” says Pradeesh VS, General Manager, ESET Middle East. “It always gives us great leads and allows us to interact with far-reaching partners, which is great for helping us redefine our products and patch our mistakes.”

Pradeesh believes that the prevalence in mobile technology, along with a lack of user awareness about the technology, has prompted the company’s new direction in launching its latest security products.

Version 8 of its two consumer products, NOD32 Antivirus and Smart Security contain mobile tracking features, as well as being able to record a potential thief’s social media login details, as well as taking

a selfie of them. “I can afford to live without my

wallet, but not my mobile device,” Pradeesh says. “The reality is that the vast majority of consumers are completely unaware about the new threats to mobile security. Most people don’t really understand the permissions that apps request or the damage that malware can inflict if an attacker takes control. Mobile anti-virus is a foreign concept to most people.”

In light of ESET’s drive for mobile security, the company is offering a range of demonstrations at its GITEX stand - Hall 1, Stand A1-13 – on the risks users take when downloading certain mobile apps and when they send personal data from their devices.

has enormous support from local government. We are investing heavily in this region.” Globally, Oracle has added more than 2,000 new customers to their company’s cloud, bringing the total to 10,000. There is an increasing pressure on businesses to deliver their products to the market in record time. Oracle stand to support those businesses to meet demands, innovate and maintain a competitive edge.

At this year’s Gitex, Oracle will showcase systems that can drive this innovation, in the hardware, software and cloud arenas. Khehar has been coming to Gitex with Oracle for the past twenty years. When asked if Oracle will be back next year, it just seems hard for anyone in the Majilis to imagine a Gitex without Oracle.

StarLink highlights dynamicenterprise mobile policy enforcement

StarLink, the security-specialized Value-Added-Distributor (VAD), is putting the spotlight on out-of-the-box integration between MobileIron and Air Patrol. As the distributor for both vendors in the region, StarLink focuses this enterprise proficiency towards enterprise and government customers as well as channel partners as to how these vendors work together to provide dynamic enterprise mobile policy enforcement.

With the introduction of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), enterprise IT and security teams are waking up to the fact that security threats are not just coming through the firewall, but they are also coming in on smartphones and tablets.

Mobile devices are dynamic, multi-function tools whose operational environments and uses are always changing, whereas, most mobile device management (MDM) tools are not built in the same way. Rather than applying the right device policies at the right time and the right place, they apply blanket everywhere, at all times rules that cannot change. These restrictions can negatively impact productivity, and can cause security risks to be overlooked as they change at the same time as the device’s location.

“We are excited to have this integrated Secure Mobility story in our portfolio. With MobileIron’s EMM Platform and AirPatrol’s ZoneDefense

technology, we now have a solution that detects any mobile device in an enterprise, tracks location, checks compliance, and provides immediate MDM policy enforcement in accordance with enterprise security standards.” said Avinash Advani, VP, Business Strategy at StarLink.
