 The e$cavation is to be carried out in any type o soil, rock 2soil mi$ed with boulders. The spoil thus obtained shall be disposed o0 atplaces pointed out by the !ompanys /ngineer in charge.

 The e$cavation shall be open cut e$cavation. ll precautionarymeasures shall be taken to prevent slips in e$cavation area. n the evento any slip occurred, the slipped materials shall be removed by the!ontractor.

#eore any work or e$cavation are taken up, all loose rock,semi detached rock in or close to the area to be e$cavated, which areliable to all or otherwise pose danger to workmen, shall be removed.

C"assi:cation

 To acilitate measurement and payment, the materialencountered during e$cavation shall be measured by level measurementat site and shall be classifed only as ollows.

ll the precautionary measures shall be taken by the!ontractor beore blasting so as to prevent any loss or damage topersons, property in the work area and its vicinity during blasting. Thedamages i any caused by blasting shall be repaired ;compensated by the!ontractor. The !ontractor shall be solely responsible or injury to anyperson;loss o lie, or damage to any property and or any accidentsresulting rom blasting in connection with the works and also or all theclaims resulting there rom.

 The !ontractor shall provide su<cient protective work coverover the blasting area so as to avoid +ying o any rock ragments whichmay cause danger to the lie;property in the vicinity.

 The !ontractor shall posses all the necessary licenses requiredrom the !ontroller o /$plosives in connection with the procurement,storage, conveyance and use o e$plosives.

operations in connection with blasting should be done in accordance withthe ct;&ules.

 The fnal preparation o oundation in rock, suraces shall bedone just beore construction o masonry or placing o concrete is takenup. #eore commencing masonry construction or placing o concrete, all

loosened and drumming rock and loose materials and particles includingthe very fnest o chips, sand, dirt, flms o oil and grease etc. shall beremoved and surace cleaned. The whole surace particularly everycorner, crevices and joint shall be thoroughly cleaned o all clinging dirt.

 The payment or this item will be made or area measuremento the surace prepared at the agreed rates.

*rilling holes or anchor bars have to be done as per the drawings or asdirected by the /ngineer in-charge. The diameter o the drill holesshall be not less than 5.8 times the diameter o the anchor barspecifed or that hole.

 The anchor bars or dowel rods shall be cleaned thoroughlybeore being placed. ll water shall be removed rom the hole beore thegrout is placed. The anchor bars shall be orced into place beore the grout

or mortar has taken its initial set and shall be vibrated, i practicable, untilthe entire surace o the embedded portions o the bars is in intimatecontact with the grouts. )pecial care shall be taken to ensure againstmovement o the bars, which have been placed. nchor bars shall beplaced B: hours in advance o masonry constructions;concrete operationssuch that it is set in position. nchor bars ound loose ater setting shall bereplaced by the e$pense o the !ontractor.

ll concrete, its constituents, methods and procedures o manuacture shall conorm to the latest editions o ndian standardspecifcation.

Com2osition

  The design o each concrete mi$ will be made by the!ompanys /ngineer in charge in accordance with the requirements o strength, durability, workability, and impermeability etc. or the variousstructures as per these specifcations.

@ua"ity contro"

 The !ontractor shall arrange or quality control tests asdeemed necessary and all tests shall be conducted in the presence o thecompanys representative. ll sampling and testing will be in accordancewith the applicable provisions o the latest editions o ndian standardspecifcations. The !ontractor shall ensure that the samples tested shallsatisy the acceptance criteria as per ndian )tandards.

Coarse A--re-ates*

 The coarse aggregate or the purpose o these specifcation designatesaggregate o size larger than D.B8mm up to the ma$imum size o aggregate specifed. The aggregates shall be ree rom all dust andwashed to ensure that all aces o the broken stones are perectly clean.ggregates shall comply with the requirements as per ndian standards.

  The fne aggregate, whether it is river sand, crushed sand, ora mi$ture o both in proportions, shall comprise o all aggregate particles,as per the relevant specifcation in the ), having a ma$imum size up toD.B8mm.

Cement

!ement or the work shall be procured, transported andsupplied by contractor and shall conorm to the relevant #..)specifcations.

Water

"ater or mi$ing concrete shall be clean and ree rom oils,acids, alkalies, organic matter, salts or other impurities. The !ontractorshall make his own arrangements or pumping water required or washingaggregates, mi$ing concrete, curing etc. and shall provide pumps, pipelines etc. required or this purpose at his own cost.

+atchin- and mi0in-

 The !ontractor shall use batching plant and mi$ers or concretemi$ing. "eigh batchers should be used in conjunction with mi$ers so thatthe approved mi$ strengths are maintained Ci$ing o concrete and mortarusing concrete mi$ers shall be governed by the ollowing specifcations.

4i6 The mi$ing shall be done in-standard approved type o mi$ers o suitable capacity. the mi$ing and charging operations aresuch that the required uniormity o the concrete is obtained in a shorter

mi$ing time than the minimum specifed without sacrifce o neededworkability the mi$ing time may be shortened, but only with the priorapproval o the !ompanys /ngineer in charge.

 The !ontractor may visit the site and acquainthimsel with the probable location o batching plant etc. beore quotingrates. The location o construction plants shall be chosen so that it shall notobstruct the works or hinder the access to the work areas.

 The concrete shall be placed beore initial setting has occurred. The methods and equipment used or transporting and placing concreteshall be such as will permit the delivery o concrete o the requiredconsistency into the work with out objectionable segregations, porosity ande$cessive loss o slump. The slump loss rom mi$er to the orms shall notbe more than :8 mm. There shall be no vertical drop greater than 5.8 m

e$cept where suitable equipment is provided to prevent segregation.!ontractor shall at his cost make his own arrangements to convey theconcrete to di0erent locations.

Forms for concrete

%orms to confne the concrete and shape it to the required linesshall be procured by the !ontractor at his cost and used wherevernecessary. The orms shall have su<cient strength and rigidity to hold theconcrete and withstand the necessary pressure, ramming and vibration

without any de+ection rom the prescribed lines. ll e$posed concretesurace having slope o 5 to 5 or steeper, shall be ormed by using ormworkunless otherwise directed.

#eore placing concrete, the surace o all orms shall be oiledwith a suitable non-staining oil so as to prevent sticking o concrete andacilitate removal o orms. %or use on wood orms, the oil should becapable o penetrating the wood, or remain su<ciently oily to eliminatesticking and o preventing absorption o water and consequent warping.

6emo&a" of forms

 The orms shall be removed only when the removal isauthorised by the !ompanys /ngineer in charge. The duration o time orwhich the orms shall remain in place will be decided by the /ngineer incharge with reerence to weather conditions, shape and position o structureor structural member and the amount o dead and live load coming uponthe structure and the strength gained by the concrete.

1o concrete shall be placed e$cept in the presence o dulyauthorised representative o the !ompany. 1o concrete shall be placed untilerection o all orm works, installation o parts to be embedded andpreparation o surace upon or against which concrete is to be placed havebeen approved by the !ompanys /ngineer in charge.

'roperly placed concrete shall be ree rom segregation and themortar shall intimately be in contact with the coarse aggregate,reinorcement and other embedded parts. !oncrete shall be placed in

horizontal layers e$cept wherever decided by the /ngineer in charge."here such procedure is impracticable, concrete shall be worked readilyinto corners and angles o the orms and around all reinorcement and

embedded items, i any, without permitting the material to segregate.#eore placing concrete, it shall be made certain that transporting andplacing equipment are clean and in proper working condition and that theequipment along with the operating orce is su<cient and properly arrangedto deliver the concrete in its fnal position. *epths o layers or massconcrete are generally 9E to F3 cm. and or structural concrete 93 to 83

cm., or as decided by the /ngineer in charge. 'recaution shall be taken toavoid entrapment o air within partially enclosed spaces to be flled withconcrete. n placing concrete at surace o construction joints whereadequate vibration is impracticable, the concrete shall be worked by hand+oating or other e0ective means to ensure thorough compaction o concreteat the surace o joints. )uch hand working may be necessary at thinheavily reinorced wall particularly where the joint is sloping. "hen slabsand beams o the supporting walls and columns are cast monolithically, theconcrete in the top F3 or G3 cm. o the walls and columns shall be o thelowest slump that can be vibrated adequately and shall be ullyconsolidated at the surace. #eore placing this concrete in top fllets, slabsand beams, the concrete in the walls and columns shall be allowed to set aslong as possible allowing it to become so hard that a running vibrator willnot penetrate o its own weight. ter placing the fllet, beam and slabconcrete, the vibrator shall penetrate and revibrate the concrete in the topso wall and column concrete. the slump o designed concrete is su<cientto enable good consolidation in the orms by ample vibration, it is theresponsibility o the !ontractor to provide handling and placing equipment,which will put such concrete into orms ready or the action o the vibrator. The !ontractor shall see that the buckets, chutes, hoppers and otherequipment used or handling concrete will readily handle and place concrete

containing aggregate o the ma$imum practicable size within the specifedsize range. s the weathering and disintegration o concrete are moresevere at the tops o walls, piers and parapets and in kerbs, sills, ledges,copings, e$posed corners and in those portions in intermittent contact withwater, all available means o improving the durability o such concrete shallbe employed during construction including those shown below unlessotherwise directed by the /ngineer in charge.

Hower the slump to the minimum that can be vibrated well inthe critically e$posed portions. t this low slump, which will rarely need to

be more than :8 mm, the usual amount o / will have to be increased toobtain the required percentage o air entrainment.

&educe the water-cement ratio by weight. dditional cementrequired shall be substituted or sand in the regular mi$. There shall be noincrease in the unit water content. /ssentially these changes will result in anew mi$ having close to 8 or F percent air, a :8 mm. slump, and a watercement ratio o 3.D8 or the critically e$posed parts o the work.

n placing concrete in walls, kerbs and slabs, work rom the

corners and ends o the orms towards the centre, rather than towards thecorners and ends thus avoiding accumulation o mortar and wetter concretein those parts o structures where e$posure is more severe.

!oncrete placing shall be continued without anyinterruptions until the placement is completed or until satisactoryconstruction joints can be made. !oncrete shall not be deposited asterthan the consolidation crew can properly consolidate it. The !ontractorIsunit rate quoted shall include the cost o all the above works including

treatment o cold joints or laying resh concrete. The cost o mortar used intreating cold joints shall also be borne by the !ontractor.

 The !oncreting o the 'ower ouse and ancillary structuresshall be carried out in stages closely linked with the erection o generatingequipments and accessories satisying the requirements o embedding,encasing, supporting etc., o the various installations.

'lacement o concrete, embedding, encasing, supporting etc. o the equipment and installation to lines and levels and according to details

shown in the construction drawings. Jarious holes, ducts and block outsshall be let in the +oors and walls while concreting as shown in thedrawings or as directed. 1o concreting shall be commenced untilinstallation o parts to be embedded in the particular location is completed. The concreting shall be done taking due care not to disturb and causedamage to installed parts, piping, cables etc.

Construction oints

I!onstruction jointsI are the contacts between newly placedconcrete and concrete suraces upon or against which concrete is to be

placed and to which new concrete is to adhere and that have become sorigid that in the opinion o the !ompanys /ngineer in charge the newconcrete cannot be incorporated integrally with the concrete previouslyplaced. !onstruction joints shall be roughened and cleaned thoroughly bychipping o all laitanceK loose or deective surace concrete and oreignmaterial by means approved by the /ngineer in charge and shall be coveredby a layer o mortar o the same mi$ beore the new concrete is laid.

E02ansion oints/$pansion joint shall be provided wherever required as shown in

the drawings. ll the materials shall conorm to relevant .). specifcations.

Bi!ration of concrete

!oncrete shall be placed with the aid o mechanical vibratingequipment and supplemented by hand spading and tamping. The durationo vibration shall be limited to that necessary to produce satisactoryconsolidation without causing objectionable segregation in consolidatingeach layer o concrete. The vibrating head shall be allowed to penetrate andre-vibrate the concrete in the upper portion o the underlying layer. %reshlayers o concrete shall not be placed until the layers previously placed have

been worked thoroughly as specifed. The disturbance o reinorcementembedded in concrete beginning to set or already set shall be avoided.

Concretin- durin- rains

 The concreting work shall be generally discontinued during therains e$cept where su<cient protection rom rain is provided and approvedby the /ngineer in charge.

Curin- and 2rotection

ll concrete shall be suitably protected rom injury until fnalacceptance giving particular care to all permanently e$posed corners andedges. The e$posed fnished suraces o concrete shall be protected romthe direct rays o the sun or at least B: hours ater placement.

"ater curing shall be used on all concrete and shall be appliedby spraying, ponding or by covering with damp cloth maintained in a moistcondition. %orms shall be kept sprinkled with water until removal. /arlydrying shall be prevented. !oncrete shall be kept moist at least or :5 days. The unormed top suraces o ormed concrete such as tops o wallsK piersand beams etc. shall be moistened by wet burlap or other e0ective meansas soon as the concrete is hardened su<ciently to prevent damage. Thesesuraces and steeply sloping or vertical ormed suraces shall be keptcompletely and continuously moist prior to and during orm removal byapplying water to the top suraces and allowing it to run down between theorms and the concrete. The water used or curing shall be ree rome$cessive amount o silt, colouring matter or impurities, which may stain thefnished works. 1o fre or e$cessive heat shall be permitted near or in directcontact to the concrete at any time. The construction joint shall be cured in

the same manner as other concrete and shall also be kept moist or at leastB: hours prior to placing additional concrete upon joints. damp sand orwet quilts or mats are used or curing it shall be removed completely later./$posed concrete that has not been continuously cured or :5 days shall betreated as unft to be retained in the structure and shall be removed at thee$pense o the !ontractor.

Concrete 6e2airs

 The contractor shall correct all the imperections in the concretesurace as necessary to produce surace that conorm to the requirements

o fnishes as decided necessary by the companys engineer in charge. Thecost o all materials including cement, labour and equipments used in therepair o concrete done beore fnal acceptance o work shall be borne bythe !ontractor.

=easurement and Payment

'ayment or concrete items will be based on the agreed ratesand volume computed up to the e$cavation payment line specifed when

the concrete is placed against e$cavated suraces or according to the neatlines o the concrete sections when it is not in contact with the e$cavationsas shown in the drawings or as described in the specifcations or )chedule.

1o allowance will be made in the measurement neither or the concretechipped and removed, nor or chipping in oundation rock beore placing o concrete. The method o measurement o concrete work will generally be inaccordance with the relevant ndian )tandard )pecifcations.

Pre2aration of "ift surfaces or co"d oints

 The lit suraces and cold joints surace o concrete shall beprepared by green cutting;hydro blasting;mechanical roughening or wetsand blasting, to obtain a clean and proper surace or the placement o resh concrete. =reen cutting consists o cutting the surace o the reshconcrete with a high velocity air water jet to e$pose a clean surace o sound concrete. The operation shall be perormed ater the concrete hassti0ened but beore it has become too hard or e0ective cutting. Theprepared suraces shall be kept clean till resh concrete is placed. The costo preparing lit suraces and cold joints and the cost o aggregates andother materials wasted during surace preparation shall be deemed to beincluded in the rate agreed to in the accepted schedule or various itemsin concrete.

Contraction oints

Jertical transverse contraction joints are provided in the weiror convenience in construction and to provide or the contraction o theconcrete. The location o those joints is as shown in the drawings or asdirected. ll the contraction joints shall be constructed in accordance with

the details shown unless otherwise specifcally directed. The joints shalle$tend through the ull cross section o the weir profle and shall bestarted rom the oundation. The joints shall be sealed, on the upstreamend by installing one line o 'J! sealing strips and another line o 'J!water stop running or the ull height o the weir rom the oundation rockto the top o weir as shown in the drawings or as specifed by the /ngineerin charge and an asphalt seal in between. The asphalt seal shall beprovided with a steam heating system. :33 mm dia. trap drain to beormed in between asphalt seal hole and 'J! water stop is to be suitablytaken to the oundation drain.

'J! water stops will be required to be placed at contraction joints as shown in the drawings or as specifed by the /ngineer in charge.

Fi0in- PBC sea"in- stri2s for contraction oints

 The contraction joint seals o the type shown on the drawingsshall be provided in the weir and the appurtenant works. !ontraction

 joints in the weir and appurtenant structure shall be constructed inaccordance with the details shown on the drawings or as directed by the

/ngineer in charge. The contractor shall urnish all the materials andlabour required or the work.

*etails o the shape and the placing o the sealing strips areshown on the drawings or as directed. The sealing strips shall be jointedcareully together by bracing or welding, so as to orm continuous

watertight diaphragms in the joints. dequate provision shall be made tosupport and protect the sealing strips during the progress o the work. The!ontractor shall replace or repair any metal sealing strips that may bepunctured or damaged beore fnal acceptance o the work.

Fi0in- PBC #ater sto2s

'J! water stops shall have width and cross sectionalconfguration as shown on the drawings or an equally e0ective crosssectional confguration. The !ontractor shall urnish all 'J! water stopsand all fttings and splice materials or making feld connections.
