FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Dear parishioners,

We will begin Lent in less than a month, the time that brings us closer to the mystery of our Redemption through the practices of fasting, penance and sacrifice: Ash Wednesday is the preamble to live the Passion, Death and Resurrection of our Lord .

The second stage of the restoration of our Church has begun. The works are centered in the area of the Altar, that includes the transfer of the Tabernacle to the center of the Altar.

There will be a place of prayer consecrated to the Mother of God, the Blessed Virgin Mary (where the tabernacle was located). We also need to change the baptismal fountain that was damaged and need to be replaced.

The new confessionals will provide the respect, privacy, discretion, and security of the confessor and penitent.

We are modernizing, and updating our Telephone Sys-tem so it can respond to the growing needs of the Parish Rectory and the Religious Education Offices. This new telephone system also involves the replacement of cur-rent security cameras that have to be updated and offer a better level of security and reflect the latest technological advances.

With all these updates that our Parish is going through, I would like to express my gratitude for the weekly and monthly commitments of all of you, and it is important to continue to practice the co-responsibility with the life of the Church. Please remember the importance of your participation in the coming Bishop’s Annual Catholic Appeal 2019. Do not forget that if we manage to exceed the goal, we will obtain additional funds for our urgent and necessary projects.

May the Lord continue to be present in everything we do for His Greater Glory and do His Holy Will.

SWEET SIXTEEN CELEBRATIONS

The requirements are as follows:

1. Family must be registered in the parish and be active members (attending with envelopes every week) for at least six (6) months. 2. The child must be baptized, received First Communion and Confirmation, or, be registered in our Faith Formation Program preparing for Confirmation. The child should be part of one of our ministries (Youth Group, Altar Servers, or Children's Choir Group). 3. Parents and child must make an appointment to speak with the Pastor once all requirements are met. Please make sure that you make the arrangements at least three (3) months prior the celebration. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in order to maintain this celebration up on going.

PROGRAM OF 9 WEEKS FOR ONE SACRAMENT

The Parish of the Blessed Sacra-ment announces the opening of registration for those persons over 18 years old, who want the Sacra-ment of Confirmation or First Communion to complete their Sac-raments of Initiation.

This program lasts for 9 weeks and starts on March 1, 2019.

To know what the requirements are and if they quali-fy, you must call the Faith Formation Office at 718-639-6159.

All candidates must be registered in a parish commu-nity.

DESDE EL ESCRITORIO DEL PÁRROCO

Queridos parroquianos, En poco menos de un mes estaremos comenzando la Cua-resma, ese tiempo que nos acerca al misterio de nuestra Redención a través de las prácticas de ayuno, penitencia y sacrificio: Miércoles de Ceniza es el preámbulo para vivir la Pasión, muerte y Resurrección de nuestro Señor.

Hemos comenzado la Segunda etapa de los trabajos de res-tauración y reparación de nuestra Iglesia: esta vez los traba-jos están centrados en el área del Altar que incluye el tras-lado del Tabernáculo al centro del Altar.

Tendremos un sitio de oración consagrado a la Madre de Dios, la Bienaventurada Virgen Maria en el sitio donde antes estaba localizado el tabernáculo. Necesitamos tam-bién cambiar la Pila bautismal que estaba dañada y tenía que ser reemplazada. Finalmente, tendremos nuevos confe-sionales que respeten la privacidad, discreción y seguridad del confesando y el confesor.

Quiero agregar también que estamos modernizando, actua-lizando nuestro Sistema telefónico para que pueda así res-ponder a las necesidades crecientes de la parroquia y del Centro de Educación Religiosa. Ese nuevo sistema telefóni-co conlleva además la sustitución de las actuales cámaras de seguridad que tienen que ser actualizadas y ofrecer me-jor nivel de seguridad y refleje así los avances tecnológicos más recientes.

Al informarles de todos estas actividades parroquiales qui-siera expresar mi gratitud por el compromiso semanal y mensual de todos ustedes, y es importante continuar esa práctica de corresponsabilidad con la vida de la Iglesia. Por lo mismo quiero recordarles la importancia de su parti-cipación en la Campaña Anual de Obispo 2019 ya que si logramos superar la meta obtendríamos fondos adicionales para esos proyectos urgentes y necesarios.

Que El Señor pueda seguir presente en todo cuanto hace-mos para su Mayor Gloria y hacer así su Santa Voluntad.

CELEBRACIÓN PARA QUINCEAÑERAS

Los requisitos para esta celebración son: 1. La familia debe estar inscrita en la parroquia y ser miembros activos (asistiendo con sobres cada semana) al menos por seis (6) meses. 2. La quinceañera debe estar bautizada, haber recibido su Prime-ra Comunión y Confirmación, o, estar asistiendo a las clases de preparación para recibir la Confirmación. La quinceañera tam-bién deben pertenecer a uno de los servicios para los que necesi-tamos colaboración (Grupo de Jóvenes, Monaguillos, Coro). 3. Los padres de familia y la quinceañera deben hacer una cita para hablar con el párroco al menos con tres (3) meses de antici-pación siempre y cuando cumplan con todos los requisitos. Agradecemos su comprensión y colaboración para así poder mantener esta celebración.
