A Message from the Principal Team

Dear Families,

Thanks to Riley, Byron and Luca: Last Friday I had three super helpers who

were the ‘Principals for the Day’, after having their wishes granted for

completing 150 nights of home reading. In the morning we had a meeting

together and discussed the types of things that we want to see in all of our

classrooms- things like student focus and concentration, sharing, teamwork,

learning goals present and a nice working environment. We then visited five

classrooms and completed our ‘learning walks’, where the ‘principal’s’

assessed how well our classrooms were functioning against their criteria.

They were very happy to report that all classrooms were focussed and

students were working very well! The principal’s then attended to some

administration tasks that will no doubt help out our teachers towards the

end of the year, before attending assembly proudly wearing their principal

badges. Well done to all three of the boys!

Staffing update: As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, we will be informing our community of our whole school structure in

next week’s newsletter (December 12). We had our final ‘Friendship Day’ late last week and will be busy over the next week

finalising grades and teachers. However, we are very pleased to announce that Jacqui Nelson, Krystal Clappison, Chloe Monaghan

and Maddison Goldsworthy will be our Foundation teachers in 2019. Jacqui Nelson was our Foundation unit leader this year

and we welcome Krystal, Chloe and Maddison to the Wandong community.

Booklist purchasing: By end of this week, any leftover 2018 class supplies will be sent home with students to assist with 2019

purchasing. A tub is in the school office foyer for any donations of stationery items that you no longer require.

Masterplan update: The tender phase of our Masterplan has been completed and the news is not as positive as what we

originally hoped to receive. After the tenders came back, it was clear that only the library could afford to be built in Stage 1- the

staff resource centre that we hoped to also get as part of the first stage will now become part of the next stage. Whilst this can be

viewed as an adverse result for our community- when we first began our masterplan journey, all we were hoping for out of stage 1

was enough funding to clear the block, so from that standpoint we have been fortunate. Construction on the new library is due to

begin in the first week of February and completed by the end of November (although we are hoping it will be finished much

earlier). Again, whilst this was not an ideal outcome for us- the bright side is we will have a fantastic new library at the school that

will be used by our students for many years to come.

New portable classroom: Late last week, we finalised the process for receiving a new portable classroom on the block for 2019

and it is due to arrive on Thursday. This new portable is a great result for us, as it will allow us to cater for our increasing student

numbers and keep class sizes small in 2019 for the benefit of all of our students and also provide our teachers with a dedicated

space to plan each week at the school, considering we will not be receiving the Staff Resource Centre as part of the Stage 1

Masterplan, mentioned above. A great result for our school
