A Message from the Principal Team

Dear families,

It has again been a busy week as we approach the end of term 1. Although everyone is tired, it is great to see that excellence in teaching and learning which we pride ourselves on at Wandong, has continued in classrooms.

Curriculum Day: As you would be aware, Monday was a pupil free day, due to it being a Curriculum day for all staff. The purpose of any Curriculum day is to address key areas of need for staff professional development and school growth, in-line with our Annual Implementation Plan. All staff are to be commended on their dedication and collaboration throughout the day. The key foci of the day included:

Differentiating learning tasks effectively and tackling authentic problem solving in Mathematics Effective strategies for teaching Reading Writing meaningful Learning Intentions and Success Criteria which help students become directors of their own

learning

School Council: On Monday night we held our first official School Council meeting for 2019. The following items were discussed:

School Council positions are as follows: President- Adam Russell, Vice President- Leanne Pretty, Treasurer- Dave Warren, Secretary- Kaitlyn Hall

School Council members selected sub-comities to be a part of this year, as follows: Finance- Dave Warren, Stephanie Pollock and Adam Russell Education- Stephanie Pollock, Yvette Curlis, Kaitlyn Hall, Dean Carmody, Sharon Delaney & Kimberly Gregory. Buildings and Grounds- Dave Warren, Adam Russell, Brett Ward, Justin Gomez, Emma Brancastiano

& Leanne Pretty

The 2019 Annual Budget was ratified

The 2019 Annual Implementation Plan (our key focus areas for teaching, learning and student welfare) was explained and endorsed. At each school council meeting, members will be updated on our progress towards these goals

Updates regarding the current building works, staff professional development and future school projects were given

Book Dress Up Day: Last Wednesday was our ‘Book Dress Up’ day. It was fantastic to see the level of effort which families, students and staff went to- making the day a huge success! It was a wonderful way to begin the year with a focus on home reading and many families made the most of the pop up book fair to restock their home libraries in preparation for the year ahead.

Victorian School Sports Awards: On Thursday, Mr Warren and Mr Fearn attended the Victorian School Sports Awards to support Kirra Wright in receiving the prestigious Cross Country with a Multi-Class award. This was a huge achievement for Kirra who had the opportunity to meet many sporting icons and to have her achievements and future goals published as a part of the event media. Congratulations to Kirra for these amazing achievements. Your resilience and dedication are to be admired.

PAFA COLOR FUN RUN The date for this amazing event is Friday 5th April (the last day of Term One).

This will be a major event for our school.

If you have any queries in relation to the PAFA Color Fun Run please log on to https://schoolfundraising.com.au

or contact our school office.

IMPORTANT REMINDER You will notice some new signs around the school. Miss Pollock has created

these signs to go on the gates to remind parents that gates should be closed at all times,

even if they are not locked with a padlock.

To help keep our students safe, we ask the members of our school community

to close gates as they enter and exit the school for drop off in the morning

and in the afternoon, as they arrive for pick up.

Scholastic Book Club

Issue 2 orders are due back on Thursday 21st March.

Payment can be made by money or cheque (payable to Scholastic Australia) with order forms

to be returned to school. Alternatively, orders can be done online with credit card and

no paperwork is required.

A Message from the School Captains

Dear families,

Wow, what an amazing first week as School Captains.

We have enjoyed the many jobs that our role has. Like proudly raising the flags each day. We ran

our first assembly last Friday and looking forward to running them each week.

The book week dress up day was a load of fun. It was great to see everyone dressed up, even the

teachers! They looked awesome. We liked the Aides as Wally and the Foundation teachers as

crayons.

We are excited to have such a great leadership team with us and cannot wait to get started on the

many ideas we all came up with.

Massive congrats to Nayte, who competed in the Regional Swimming Championships yesterday at Watermarc, Greensborough.

We hope you all had fun on the pupil free day on Monday.

It is a massive privilege to get this role. We are excited to see what amazing things will come in the months ahead.

WANDONG PRIMARY SCHOOL SUPER READER’S CLUB:

Congratulations on 50 nights reading:

Logan Harrison, Chloe Mazurek, Caitlin Rees and Lacy Cesaria.

Student accident insurance, ambulance cover arrangements

and private property brought to school Schools are reminded that the Department does not provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for

students. Parents are asked to please not send valuable items to school with students. Additionally, the school does

not have ambulance cover. It is recommended that all families organise ambulance insurance for their children as,

in an emergency, this is our first telephone call made by staff at the school. In the event that an ambulance takes a

child to the hospital and the family do not have cover, the family will be billed by Ambulance Victoria for the trip – and

it is VERY expensive without cover.
