FROM OUR PASTOR
“All peoples, clap your hands. Cry to God with
shouts of joy! For the LORD, the Most High, is awesome, and the great king over all the earth.” Psalm 47: 2-3
There is a multitude of words that we use to describe God. We name the Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, we call God “the Father of Mercies”, Jesus “our Shepherd”, “the Holy Spirit the Paraclete” and so many, many more that help us to understand our relationship with God, and in particular Jesus, “the Word made Flesh” who dwelt among us. The words we sing today for our Psalm help to describe how we react in our relationship with God. God is the great king over all the earth. God, the Most High, is awesome. Our recognition of God in our lives is to clap and shout! Joy, gratitude, peace, love—all these and so many more feelings that we have about God make us want to express ourselves as if our favorite, long suffering basketball team is in the championship game, up by 12, with 1 second to go with the ball—and we have front row seats. That would be awesome.
God, the Most High, is awesome. We clap our hands and shout with joy!

NEW MASS SCHEDULE
The Ascension of the Lord | May 24, 2020 3
Jesus Ascending To Lead Us Dear Friends,
Where should a general stand when his army is battling the enemy? Well, he needs to be close to the combat but not too close. He needs to be able to get “the big picture” of the whole battle. Where should the CEO of a major company with offices around the world be spend his working hours? Obviously, he needs to be in a place where he can be most effective and can give the best leadership. Today as we remember the ‘Ascension’ of Jesus, let’s answer a similar question about him. As our leader and Lord, where is the best place for Jesus to be? It seems that the disciples thought the best place for Jesus to be was with them, as he had been for the over three years. Picturing Jesus as a commander, what is the best place from where he could lead his followers? And as the ruler of the kingdom of God, where should he keep his office? And because Jesus is the president and CEO of the company of the saints, where is the best place for him to do his work? According to the Ascension story, Jesus ascended into heaven to be better able to provide leadership for his followers. From the right hand of God the Father, Jesus can take care of all the needs of all his followers. Jesus is not like a coach who leaves his team behind, or a general who walks away from his army. Nor is He like a government official who walks off the job, or a CEO who leaves his office to go golfing. Jesus ascended into heaven and from there has been giving an endless supply of workers to his Church on earth. Showing true leadership doesn’t imply that Jesus does all the work himself; rather, He leads specifically by involving all of His people in the work of the kingdom. Jesus said to them, ‘Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Mt.28:19-20) Pope Francis says, “I want the Church to go out onto the streets and want us to resist everything worldly. Our parishes, schools and institutions are all made for going out….if they don’t, they become an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization), and the Church cannot be an NGO.” Remember, you write a new page of the gospel each day through the things that you do and words you say. So what is the Gospel according to you?
God bless you all. Fr. Jey

OUR NEW FACEMASK MINISTRY
6 May 24, 2020 | The Ascension of the Lord
I PLAN ON ATTENDING MASS—WHAT DO I DO? Here are some easy steps for you to take when coming to Mass:
1. Wash your hands before getting in your car to drive to the parish. Thank you!
2. If you would like to wear a mask to Mass that will be fine! 3. Come into church through the center doors which will be propped open so you don’t have to touch a
door handle. Please do not use any of the other doors (they will be locked). 4. If you need to wash your hands again, we have 3 sinks in the women’s restroom,
3 sinks in the men’s restroom, a sink in the Hospitality Room, a sink in the Courtesy Room, and sinks in each of the two restrooms near the back entrance to the parish offices. We have soap dispensers, and remember to wash for 20 seconds! Washing hands with soap is better than hand sanitizer, but we will have hand sanitizer available in the narthex (we hope to not run out!). Please bring your own personal sized bottle of hand sanitizer for your use if you have one!
5. Before you come into church for the Sunday 8:45 am, 10 am and 11:30 am Masses, pick up a bulletin, in the narthex, with the words to our hymns for Mass. We will not have music at the Saturday 4 pm and 5:30 pm and Sunday 7 am Masses (though we may sing a cappella a familiar hymn or two!).
6. Place your offering envelope in the baskets at the back of church—we will not be taking up a collection during Mass. Thank you for your generous gifts to the parish!
7. Choose a place to sit 6 feet away from other people—you may sit next to your own family members less than 6 feet away from one another. Do not sit in the pews marked with blue tape—those blocked off pews are to help us keep good social distancing.
8. Remember, no holding hands during the Our Father, and we will not have the Sign of Peace. 9. Here’s something new—instead of coming forward for Communion at the normal time, the priest (and
deacon) will have communion and then continue with the Mass. Then, after the deacon or priest says “Go forth, the Mass is ended” or other closing, the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion will come forward, receive the Blessed Sacrament, and go to their places for Communion. Then, keeping 6 feet away from each other, form lines to come to Communion, bringing your bulletin, hand bag, etc. with you. Once you receive Communion, walk to the outside of the church through the center doorway (so you don’t touch the door handles) and proceed to your car.
10. If you receive a low gluten host, please be first in the priest’s Communion line! We have a ciborium ready with low gluten hosts—no need to bring your individual pix.
11. If you prefer receiving Communion on the tongue, please be at the end of the priest’s Communion line! Only the priests will offer Communion to those who prefer receiving on the tongue.
12. Please do not touch the Communion Ministers. If you touch the Communion Minister she or he will need to stop and sanitized their hands before returning to their Communion station.
13. If you are not receiving Communion, you may go to your car—or parents with children keep them close to you when you receive Communion and then go to your car. The priest, deacon and Extraordinary Ministers will not give blessings at Communion time.
14. Do not recycle the bulletins at church! Please take them home, or put in a trash can, but do not put back with the bulletins for the next Mass.
15. Before you leave, or when you get home, remember to wash your hands again for 20 seconds!
16. No visiting at church—but we will be glad to see you!

Last Year, Pope Francis wrote an Exhortation to Young People, Christus
Vivit. Each week of 2020, we will offer a quote from that document for you to
contemplate…
“Mary was a young woman whose heart overflowed with joy (cf. Lk 1:47), whose eyes, reflecting the light of the Holy Spirit, looked at life with faith and treasured all things in her youthful heart (cf. Lk 2:19.51). She was energetic, ready to set out immediately once she knew that her cousin needed her. She did not think about her own plans, but went ‘with haste’ to the hill coun-try” (Lk 1:39). - CV 46

Our Online Confirmation Retreat concluded this week. Confirmation formation was certainly different this year, but our young people have “risen to the occasion” and have expressed through their EPIC experiences, their Letters to the Archbishop and retreat reflections that they are readied to say “yes” to be fully initi-ated Catholics and to work with the Holy Spirit in their lives. Our candidates , their catechists, sponsors and parents are eagerly awaiting some news from the Archbishop on his plan for adminis-tering the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please pray for our young people as they await this news!
