MASS SCHEDULE & INTENTIONS FROM OUR PASTOR
It’s been hot lately! As you know, one of our church air conditioning units went out a few weeks ago, and was repaired. Then this past weekend with the prolonged 90 degree and up weather, our church air conditioning units (3 main units and 2 auxiliary units) could not keep up with the demand.
Our 3 main air conditioners are original to the building—22 years old. They have a “life expectancy” of 15 years. Our hope is to be able to survive the remainder of the Summer, and have fund raising to replace one of the units for next Summer—and proceed with replacing the remaining 2 units in the following 2 years. We are not ready to start collect-ing money for air con-ditioning—we have several steps to take before doing so, but I hope that when asked, you will be ready to contribute so that we can all “keep our cool” next Summer!
Dear Parish Family & Friends,
Peace and all good, Fr. Steve Giannini
PARISH LEADERSHIP STRATEGIC PLANNING MEETING
Parish Leaders are invited to attend our Triennial (every three years) Strategic Planning Meeting. This year we will focus on our three strategies of Commu-nication, Stewardship and Evangelization through the lens of Youth Ministry.
Our meeting will be held on Saturday, September 14th from 9:45 am to 12:30 pm in the Hospitality Room. Parish leaders will be contacted by Julie Bi-asi, and asked which members from their ministry areas will be attending. We hope every ministry area will be represented!
SAVE THE DATE!!
PICTORIAL DIRECTORY UPDATE Pictorial Directory is actually coming!
Many of you probably thought the latest Pictorial Directory was a figment of our imaginations, but...we have finally
received a proof of the book. There are some corrections that will need to be made, but
not many.
When can we expect delivery? Anywhere between a month
and three months. Sorry, but we received several different answers so a more precise answer can not be given at
this time.
We THANK YOU for ALL your PATIENCE with the process and will get them to you as
soon as they arrive.

STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE - JULY 21, 2019
TWO GRANTS RECEIVED FROM THE ARCHDIOCESE
We have been blessed this Summer to have received two grants from the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. We received $20,000.00 from the Indianapo-lis Deaneries Catholic Education
Assessment. We also received $3,200.00 from the Queen and Divine Mercy Endowment Fund through the Catholic Community Foundation. The Indianapolis Deaneries Catholic Education Assessment grant money will assist us in paying part of the salaries of four of our teachers who will be implementing our parish school Library/Media program. Over the past three years, Mrs. Popp our principal has been developing our library through acquiring new furniture and book collections for our children. We have also designated a classroom specifically for Media Education. The Queen and Divine Mercy Endowment Fund grant money will be used to fund 5 new Nativity sets for our religious education and school classrooms, purchase our FORMED.org parish subscription, and fund our Lenten Taizé Prayer Service to be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 from 7 pm to 8 pm. We are grateful to the Office of Catholic Schools and the Catholic Community Foundation for their affirmation and support for the wonderful ministries our parish is providing.

Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time | July 28, 2019 7
1. Did you know….In Acts of the Apostles (6:1-6), the apostles established the Order of Deacons—the word deacon derives from the Greek diakonia, meaning “service,” thereby indicating that a dea-con is called like Christ to be a servant. St. Stephen is the patron saint of deacons—he was the first deacon in the Early Church to be martyred. The Order of Deacon has three essential functions: the proclamation of the Gospel, the service of the liturgy, and the administration of charitable
works. Men who are ordained to the permanent diaconate promise to live out the charism of service to God and the people of God through a life of ordained ministry. A permanent deacon is ordained through the Sacrament of Holy Orders, and can be single or married. Permanent deacons, who typically have a family, will often have a career out-side of the church to support themselves and their family. There are several requirements a deacon must meet. Deacons must be at least 35 years old and practicing, baptized members of the Roman Catholic Church. Deacons may baptize, witness the exchange of vows and bless marriages, distribute Holy Communion, impart benediction with the Blessed Sacrament, bring Viaticum to the dying, read Sacred Scripture to the faithful and especially proclaim the Gospel, preach, officiate at funerals and burials, and administer the sacramentals. They should also dedicate them-selves to other charitable works, particularly within the parish community. (Confer the Catechsim, 1569-70, and the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, #29) Please note that unlike a priest, deacons cannot absolve sins in the Sacrament of Penance, offer the Mass or confect the Holy Eucharist, administer the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, or administer the Sacrament of Confirmation. God bless and a big thank you to Deacon Ron Pirau for his ministry at our parish—Ss. Francis and Clare. 2. Did you know….In the Roman Catholic Church, a transitional deacon is a celibate man who has been ordained a deacon and who intends to become a priest. Transitional deacons are usually ordained to the diaconate after they complete their third year at the theological Seminary, and are ordained to priesthood the following year. For liturgical functions, all deacons wear an alb and a stole that crosses the chest from the left shoulder to the waist on the right side. For solemn occasions, they also wear the dalmatic. However, unlike transitional deacons, permanent deacons normally do not wear regular clerical attire such as a Roman Collar. Unlike transitional deacons who are obliged to fulfill the liturgy of the hours daily, permanent deacons in the United States are bound to offer morning and evening prayer only.

Here are some things our Passionate Pope Francis would like you to consider…
“Dear young people, make the most of these years of your youth. Don’t observe life from a balcony. Don’t confuse happiness with an armchair, or live your life behind a screen. Whatever you do, do not become the sorry sight of an abandoned vehicle! Don’t be parked cars, but dream freely and make good decisions. Take risks, even if it means making mistakes. Don’t go through life anaesthetized or approach the world like tourists. Make a ruckus! Cast out the fears that paralyze you, so that you don’t become young mummies. Live! Give yourselves over to the best of life! Open the door of the cage, go out and fly! Please, don’t take an early retirement.” -Christus Vivit 143
