Models and Versions The new 5 Series product family, which is composed of 3 models, covers the power segment from 100 to 120 horsepower. These models, available in two versions (standard and “P”), offer unique product characteristics never before available for this power segment. The key strength of the new 5 Series tractors lies in their specification flexibility. This characteristic makes it possible to "build" a customized tractor precisely to the customer's specifications and meet all operating requirements, from open field to transport, grassland operations to front loader tasks, and from municipal applications to forestry.

Style & Design

Agricultural tractors, with their traditional appeal and fascination, have evolved through time with the emergence of increasingly refined machines able to offer users exceptional levels of efficiency, greater safety, comfort and style in keeping with a machine working within this industry and reflecting the evolution achieved in the field of automotive design. An innovation in this particular field is embodied in the new 5 Series, the styling of which was entrusted to Italdesign Giugiaro.

The Italian designer was responsible for styling both the exterior of the tractor and the cab interior. The hood has been revised and embellished with graphic elements that display elegance and edge. The grille has been redesigned and anticipates the development of products in the pipeline: the distinctive light clusters contribute to creating a modern streamlined look. It has also introduced a new color for rims and roofs that characterize the full range of DEUTZ-FAHR products.

The most significant work was done in the cab in the effort to create a cool, functional and comfortable environment. A series of automotive concepts have been integrated, such as the road and work lights controls combined on a single panel, a redesigned operator seat and the adjacent passenger seat. The cab décor features the use of the latest generation of compound plastics that combine high strength with easy cleaning, plus a series of soft-touch elements.

Engine The new engine developed for this range is a compact 4-cylinder unit in compliance Tier 4i emission regulations. This 4-cylinder Turbo Intercooler Deutz engine (electronically controlled) features displacement of 3.620 cc, common rail injection system, external exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR) cooled with engine coolant, proportional viscostatic fan, new coolers pack, and DOC exhaust gas post-treatment system capable of reducing contaminants without the use of Ad-Blue.

Engine — Coolers The new geometry cooler system is composed of the radiator equipped with anti-debris protective screen, new intercooler to cool intake air, new transmission oil cooler, new fuel cooler, new air conditioning condenser and new shroud. To clean the coolers in a simple and practical manner the air conditioning condenser is mounted on two tracks to slide to the left, while the screen that protects the engine radiator can be removed from the right-hand side.

Engine – DOC post-treatment device The DOC system, together with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), makes it possible to comply with Tier 3B (or 4i) emission regulations without the use of Ad-Blue.

DOC

The Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) device is a special catalytic converter reacts

with the engine exhaust gas by contact and transforms the contents into non-harmful substances.

Transmission The new transmissions of the 5 Series give a choice of up to 4 different options, ranging from the mechanical 10 FWD + 10 REV transmission (5 gears x 2 ranges) up to the HML 60 + 60 transmission with overspeed and proportional control (5 gears x 3 Powershift gears x 4 ranges) which enable the tractor to reach 40 km/h at economy engine speed or 50 km/h where national speed limits allow. All models and all versions are equipped as standard with a hydraulic Powershuttle with sensitivity control fitted as standard. With this function the operator can select 5 different response settings of the “Sense Clutch” shuttle (2 Hard – 1 Medium – 2 Soft) with just the movement of a thumbwheel. This important characteristic allows shuttle response time to be adapted to suit different working situations (such as when using a front loader) or in accordance with the gradient. In addition to the 3-stage Powershift, the “P” versions come complete (standard equipment)

with APS (Automatic PowerShift) Speed matching system which selects the most suitable

speed powershift in relation to the feeding speed of the vehicle during gear changes.

Stop&Go The versatility and comfort of DEUTZ-FAHR 5 Series tractors is assured also by the “Stop&Go” feature that, by means of an instrument panel button, makes it possible to stop the tractor temporarily simply by pressing the brake pedals (without having to activate the shuttle lever or clutch pedal), thus eliminating a series of repetitive actions (clutch pedal and shuttle lever) required for competitors' tractors without this function. Front axle The new transmission features also include the front axle. The new axles (designed and manufactured by SDF) were developed specifically for 5 Series machines. The controls for 4WD, differential locking and ASM (automatic differentials and 4WD management) are all electrohydraulic. There are three different axle types:

“P” versions of the 5 Series can also be equipped with dual cylinder front suspension.

Front suspension serves to improve operating comfort and safety, both during field

operations and on the road.

Power take-off – PTO

Also the comprehensive PTO options are befitting of a "top class" tractor. The 4 speeds (540 – 540 ECO – 1000 – 1000 ECO), ground speed PTO with independent output shaft and a 1000 rpm front PTO, make the 5 Series range a truly multi-purpose workhorse capable of tackling the widest range of applications. The PTO clutch is an independent multi-disc oil bath unit with electrohydraulic engagement from a pushbutton in the cab.

Hydraulics Also in the power segment from 100 to 120 hp the agricultural implements sector calls for increasingly high oil flows and a large number of auxiliary valves. To guarantee the utmost versatility of the hydraulics, the new 5 Series machines are available in 12 different configurations, capable of meeting the broadest possible range of customer demands. The versions available feature a single or tandem pump, flow rate of 60 or 90 l/min, from a

minimum of 6 to a maximum of 10 hydraulic couplings, Power Beyond, mechanical or

The “60 ECO” hydraulic system makes it possible to reach the maximum flow rate to the auxiliary valves (60l/min) at just 1,600 rpm. This variant is especially useful for front loader work in which high levels of hydraulic power are needed at low engine revs. The system (selected and deselected at the touch of a button) is composed of a tandem pump (22.5 + 14 cc) and is based on an engine revs logic. When this function is activated the secondary pump (14 cc) gradually cuts in on the basis of the engine revs, adding its oil flow to the oil flow of the main pump. The diagram shows the system operating logic: -in areas “A” the sum of the secondary pump flow rate is NULL

90 l/min hydraulic system Energy Saving 90 l/min hydraulic systems are equipped with the “Energy Saving” system. This function has the dual advantage of reducing energy requirements and hence running costs. When all tractor hydraulic services (auxiliary valves, rear hitch and front lift) are inactive, the "Energy Saving" valve cuts the oil flow to the auxiliary valves and dumps the oil directly in the gearbox. Unlike the “60 ECO” system, the 90 l/min hydraulic system features flow rate logic; if maximum flow is not required, the secondary pump is active but it remains on stand-by ready to cut-in as soon as full hydraulic power is needed.

Flow control and timers In configurations with mechanically controlled auxiliary valves the oil flow is controlled simply by means of the specific external valve at the rear of the tractor. With electrohydraulic controls the flow (of all auxiliary valves) and activation time (auxiliary valves 3, 4, 5) are easily programmable from the operator position.

Rear hitch DEUTZ-FAHR rear hitches have long enjoyed recognition as being the best available in terms of precision, control, and practicality in the field. The standard equipment of the new 5 Series machines includes a hitch with complete electronic supervision and control. Thanks to the double draft pin and Radar (optional) the performance and precision of the operation are always consistent. The maximum lifting capacity is 4.650 kg, but for users who need even greater lifting power, optional assistor rams (50 mm diameter) can be installed to increase the lifting capacity to 6.600 kg, the most powerful in the segment!

On request, it’s also possible to install an integrated double acting front linkage with a lifting

capacity of 1.850 kg

Steering circuit With regard to the hydraulic steering circuit (independent) there are 3 possible configurations. For 5 Series models in the standard 40 km/h version there is a single impeller 160 cc steering pump. Models with three-stage HML Powershift transmission (50 km/h or 40 km/h at economy engine revs) are equipped with 160 cc double impeller steering pump (80 + 80 cc). With the engine running the two impellers function simultaneously and the relative flow rates are summed together. With the tractor engine stopped, a single impeller continues to run to enable emergency manoeuvres to be performed in total safety. All versions of the new DEUTZ-FAHR 5 Series tractors can be equipped with the optional “SDD” (Steering Double Displacement) steering pump. This is a double impeller pump that can be activated or deactivated via a button on the instrument panel. A specific solenoid valve mounted on the steering pump changes the pump flow rate from 125 cc (SDD “OFF”) to 250 cc (SDD “ON”). This makes it possible to perform manoeuvres (e.g. with a front loader or headland turns) halving the required number of steering wheel turns.

Braking system

All 5 Series “P” models are equipped as a standard with a booster brake pump (Power Brake) that guarantees greater braking power with reduced brake pedal pressure, thus increasing not only safety but also operating comfort. In the case of a fault on the braking system, an accumulator provides sufficient residual pressure for 10 emergency brake activations. On all models and specification packages the parking brake is a hydraulic-mechanical “Park Brake” unit that makes it possible to bring the 5 Series machine to a stop in complete safety on any gradient. This device is composed of a combined mechanical-hydraulic system capable of exerting constant force on the rear brake discs. An additional safety and efficiency-enhancing feature is the rear brakes self-adjusting system. This uses a mechanical part to adjust and maintain the correct distance between components of the braking system (pistons and brake discs) so as to reduce wear, prevent overheating of the transmission oil and prolong the service life and the efficiency of the brakes. The steering and brake circuit feed pump is of the “Silence Plus” type, designed to reduce hydraulic pulsations and noise and increase operating comfort.

The ease of use, the “color line” logic whereby the controls are grouped according to their function, and the high level of operator comfort combine to make the operator feel perfectly at home in the 5 Series right from the start. A wide choice of options allows the customer to configure the cab freely to match his preferences. The options include (depending on the model) a choice between mechanical or pneumatic cab suspension, different operator seat suspension systems, a passenger seat, high-visibility roof, work display, ComforTip, air conditioning or automatic climate control, and up to 10 work lights with WOLP panel (Working Operating Light Panel - centralised control panel for all tractor lights).

Front loader predisposition The new 5 Series models can be factory-equipped with two types of DEUTZ-FAHR front loader prearrangements: Light & Ready Kit This kit is composed of: LIGHT KIT READY KIT - Frame - Frame - Fixing screws - Fixing screws - Hydraulic circuit connections - Electrical circuit connections - Joystick controller The advantages of these prearrangments are perfect interaction between mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components (thanks to the official approval of DEUTZ-FAHR research and development) and reduction of installation costs compared to an aftermarket kit.
